The other main change that local residents will see to their service from this date is alternate weekly collections of non-recyclable waste. The alternate weekly kerbside recycling collections will remain the same. Crews at Cheltenham Borough Council have been busy delivering over 50,000 kitchen waste caddies around the borough, along with detailed information leaflets of how the scheme will operate. To help promote the changes and answer questions from local residents, a series of road shows have been running around the town throughout February and March – and will continue into early April. Canvassers have been visiting households to explain the new recycling and waste service; and a play featuring child-friendly characters has toured around the borough’s primary schools encouraging youngsters to make sure their parents take full advantage of the new food waste collection service. Waste minimisation and recycling are some of the council’s highest priorities, and the council has signed up to recycling targets of 50 per cent by 2015. Councillor Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainability said: “The new weekly food waste collections will make a huge difference in reducing the amount of refuse that until now we have had to send to landfill. "We think that everyone will quickly get used to the changes and that we can work together to reuse and recycle more and more of our waste. It really is easy to make a positive impact on the environment by simply separating out our waste." People who have not yet signed up to the new brown bin garden waste service can do so at any time, and residents can still take their garden waste to the council’s recycling centre on the Swindon Road. The bike ride starts and ends in Bishops Cleeve, and travels through picturesque countryside and the villages of Brockhampton, Temple Guiting and Gotherington. All money raised from the event will support the BHF in its fight against heart and circulatory disease. Local volunteer and Chairman of the BHF’s Cheltenham Fundraising Branch, Steve Syer says: “I am a heart transplant patient myself and I might not still be here without the help of the BHF’s pioneering research work. It’s important to raise awareness about the charity and the vital work that they do. “This is the 50th anniversary year for the BHF, and the 21st year of the Cotswold Bike Ride. In that time we have raised almost £600,000 to help BHF research into heart disease. Although I can’t physically participate in the bike ride, I urge you to join other cyclists - professional and amateur - in signing up for the Bike Ride on 15th May. Taking part in events like this, helps the BHF continue to save lives every day. What is Rosen Method? As we go through life, we experience many different feelings andresponses to what’s going on around us. We may sense fromour environment, especially early on, that our spontaneousexpression is not acceptable.

For example: We are too noisy, too much. We are in the way, we are notenough, we are not wanted. We may feel it’s “safer” not to beseen or heard so we learn to hide.

WE PUT OURSELVES AWAYOur bodies learn to hold down, back or in through musculartension which over time becomes a physical habit or automaticresponse. This is reflected in how we hold ourselves, ourposture, our gestures, and in turn, is reflected in how we are inlife.

By using gentle “listening” touch and respectful dialogue, RosenMethod Bodywork helps us to reconnect to these parts ofourselves allowing what has been unconscious to becomeconscious. During a session, we might become aware ofphysical sensations, images or memories which can offer helpfulinsight and allow us the possibility to create new choices in ourlives.

With awareness the muscles can relax and let go, and breath can fill the body.

We can become softer and more open, and our lives canbecome a true reflection of who we are.

I am a qualified physiotherapist and shiatsu practitionerwith over 25 years experience. I have been training inRosen Method since 2006, and am now able to offersessions as an intern.

Testemonials:"Over the years I have tried a number of therapies but none havehad such a profound impact not only on my emotional wellbeingbut also significantly on my physical health." JP"I'm so pleased to have found Rosen and Debbie. It's such agentle approach but it's been incredibly powerful in helping me toresolve old issues and be able to fully embrace my life today." GN

Gloucestershire. It was a fresh summer’s day, when studyingindoors was too boring. So down to Pittville Park, Cheltenham I

would go with all my expectations running riot inside my head andlever-arch folders bulging with notes, photocopies of research andspider-like sketches of storyboards begging to be in my next project.

Studiously working by the lakeside, gradually my eyes would coast away from thepages on the water’s edge and off into the distant island positioned so perfectly inthe middle of the lake. Glistening ripples of water rebounded from the divingducks and those skimming, jet-ski waves cut the surface distorting their reflection. As my head followed the vivacious prancing of flighted ducks, I noticed a ladyfeeding the birds. As she called them by name, they seemed to know her. I wasblessed watching this special relationship.

As the days went by, I noticed that a couple of swans would go to her as well. I’dnever seen such a sight. They too had names, and responded to them. They cameso close to her, she reminded me of Francis of Assisi: his love for animals matchedby her love for the birds. My curiosity soon got the better of me, and it wasn’t longbefore I came by her side, introduced myself and promptly asked her all thoserepetitive questions that I’m sure she had answered many times before.

So it is to Sally that my deepest gratitude lies, apartfrom dearest Mack, George and Zelda, of course.Cotswold Swans came from the numerous framestaken and admired by work and church colleagues, firstly by making birthday and celebration cards, thenphotos accepted and displayed on BBC TV weatherforecasts (the most popular being the cygnets feedingin the lake), and now the first Cotswold Swanscalendar which was printed by printing.com@AbsoluteCreative (Glos). Spring is always considered atime of rebirth, a time torefresh and renew and for

many reasons, there's never beena better time to renew your TV.

For starters, Sony are offering atrade in of up to £300 on your oldTV of any make, any model, anysize, and whether it's working ornot, which is good enoughreason in itself to upgrade to alarger, higher resolution, slimmer, morestylish and more energy efficient model.

Then there's this month's switchover to digitalbroadcasting which means that we all haveto retune our TVs or loose our favouritestations. If you retune your old TV you'll haveto go through the process again when youbuy a new one but if you buy now, you onlyhave to tune in once!

If that's not enough to have you rushing tothe Sony Centre in Regent Arcade, you'resure to be tempted by some of the great TVcoming up this year including new dramaslike the beautifully filmed period piece'Downton Abbey' which look great in HD and

next year of course, theOlympics - the countdown has begun.

3D is another good reason for getting a newtelly. There are an increasing number offilms being released Blu-Ray in 3D on andsome exciting new live 3D broadcasts on theway. It's rumoured that the Royal Weddingwill be the first event of it's kind to be filmedin 3D and whilst football and rugby fanshave been able to watch their sportingheroes in 3D action, that immersiveexperience hasn't been available to fans ofother sports… until now when some of thisyear's Wimbledon will be broadcast in 3D!

Top Tips for GivingYour Home a SpringTime Revival

Just as the world outside takes a fresh faceliftevery springtime it is also important to reviveyour home to create a new and clean energyfor the year ahead. It is time to think light, bright and clean. It is time to think new, fresh

and exciting. Whether it be the seaside, countrysideor sky, take inspiration from the awakening worldaround you and bring some life in to your home.

Firstly, as the weather warms, remove heavy anddark curtains from your windows in favor for sheers, silks, extra long curtains or simple cotton tab topcurtains that will sway and billow in the breeze andcreate a gentle glow of sunlight. Choose a colourthat coordinates with your design scheme and shoparound to find styles with botanical or naturalembroidery and beading patterns. Create tie backsthat incorporate in to your scheme. Use rope andshells, twisted sea grass or ribbon. Furthermore, during colder months these curtains can be hungbehind your winter curtains on a pole or track tocreate an extra layer of warmth and luxury.

Alongside this, remove any heavy and thick cushioncovers or throws and replace with pretty andintricate cushions in rustic rural patterns, beading orpastel colours. Play around to find a combination ofpattern, colour, style and size that lookseffective in situ. Or, consider giving your oldcushions a facelift by adding buttons, patchwork floral fabric, tassels, ribbon orembroidery. Similarly take off your bedthrow and replace with lightly patternedwhite or cream bedding to sit at the backdropof your pretty scatter cushions and maximize

the feeling of space within theroom. Even consider tying orweaving ribbon, rope or fakeflowers to your bed head for a realnatural and fun feel.

To accessorize your home, bring inelements of the outdoors bygathering fresh flowers and placingin a vase, collecting pebbles orshells and arranging neatly in a bowl or wrappingsea grass or rope around table legs or bed heads fora nautical feel. Similarly, add floral or oceanic wallart, natural woven rugs and water features. Tocreate a multi-sensual scheme, purchase candlesand incense in floral or outdoor fragrances to keepyour house fresh and lively.

Alongside this, to maximize the feeling of space andlight and to drawer your attention outdoors; arrangeyour furniture around windows and patios insteadof televisions or fireplaces. If you require a morepermanent lease of life why not consider painting orstaining your current furniture in a cream, white orpastel colour. Furthermore, give your walls a face liftwith a fresh and bright coat of paint of botanicalinspired wall paper.

Dependant on your budget and desire, it is easy andrelatively inexpensive to bring spring indoors. Getoutside and collect natural elements to bring in toyour home as accessories. Purchase some basicand inexpensive bedding and curtains to lift thefeeling of light and then put your feet up andenjoying being a spectator to the waking worldaround you.

Some considerations tothink about for gardendesignThis is not meant to be a definitivelist, but it does cover all of themajor points you will need toconsider before starting any workoutside. It should help prevent youmissing some important details, and may even give you new ideaswhich you may not have thoughtabout yet.

OK, so you have a garden and youwant to redesign it. Perhaps you'vejust moved in to a property andwant to create your own garden, oryou might just want to revamp yourexisting garden to create a newatmosphere or space. Well, whatnext?

It's all about planning!

It has to be said that "a major part ofthe work needed in getting thegarden you want is down toplanning!". There is a big differencebetween having a vision of yourideal garden, and getting that idearealised.

To help you, here is a list of somethings to think about whilstplanning your new garden.

Assessing your garden

To start off, you will need to assessyour current garden, checking forexisting elements that you want to

keep (and maybe make a featureout of), and also for elements youwant to remove.

You will also need to find outdetails about:

• Your Garden's Aspect - Is yourgarden north/south/east/westfacing?- This will affect the type of plantsyou can grow, and which areas ofthe garden receive sun and at whattimes of day.

• Soil Type - Is it heavy, light, dry, wet, acidic, neutral, or alkaline?- Again this affects the type of plantsyou can grow, and what soilmodifications you may need.

• Plant Exposure - Is it exposed towind, frost, or sheltered?- This can affect the type of plantsyou can grow, and how well yourplants do. It also affects yourcomfort in the garden!

• Soil Drainage - Do you have areasof standing water, or is it dry?- Unless you want a bog garden, you may need to condition the soilto help excess water drain away.

• Topography - Is your garden levelor sloping, and to what extent?- If it slopes, are you happy with it?Do you want to terrace the garden,or level it off?

At this stage, you should also notedown how good access into andout of your garden is. Take

measurements of any access routesinto your garden. This will beimportant once work starts as pooraccess will certainly slow thingsdown!

Once you have done this 'survey' ofyour garden, you should have abetter idea of what is possible toachieve given the physical aspectsof it. It should also give you astarting point to consider the nextstep...

The functions of your new garden

It's now time to think about whatyou want from your garden. Thinkabout how it will be used, now andin the future. This can play a bigpart in determining what featureswill be included in the final design. Also note down your own desiresfor features and garden elements.

Some of the things you couldconsider including are:

• Patios• Fencing• Pond• Lawn• Pergola• Flowerbeds• Greenhouse• Shed• Irrigation• Garden Furniture• Children's Play Area• Trellising• Water Feature• Walling• Vegetable Garden• Rockery• Bog Garden• Lighting• Ornaments

Be aware that the costs will notstop after the work has beencompleted and the garden isrealised. Most gardens requirefinancial as well as physicalupkeep, and you would do well toestimate the costs of maintenanceof your designs (both in terms oftime and money!).

'Essential' elements of yourgarden

It will be important to have certain'essential' elements in your garden,

as well as those youspecifically want. What does'essential' mean? There arecertain common elements toany well thought out garden. The following list shows afew examples:

• Pathways - to link up areasof the garden, and provideclean, safe and 'dry' access.• Storage Areas - eg: a shedto store garden tools, lawnmowers etc.• Composting Area - to helpdiscard your organic waste, andprovide a free source of nutrientrich compost.• Outdoor Safe Electricity Supply -so that electrical equipment can beused• Outdoor Water Supply - for easyaccess to water for hoses andwatering

This list gives you some idea of thekinds of things that might easily beleft out at the planning stage.

Well, now you should have some ofthe basic information to produce agreat garden design which will betailored specifically for your garden!

You should now have a pretty goodidea of the kind of elements yournew garden will consist of, and alsowhat kinds of plants will flourish inyour garden. You can now lookforward to putting pen to paperand, using the information you havegathered, and design the actualgarden layout.

On a cold evening in March. We were reallylooking forward to a nice evening and goodfood. We were not disappointed by any

means when we walked into Indus TandooriRestaurant in Bath Road.We were greeted by a waiter who showed us to our tablewhich was in a nice cosy corner of the restaurant with bottledwater and a large choice of food to choose from.

I chose onion bahjis and my husband dined on samosas tostart, with a crisp poppadom and home made mango chutneyand several other sauces.

The main meal came in good time and consisted of our choiceof chicken korma and chicken dopiaza, rice and a gorgeousnaan bread.

Im not used to having a dessert lately but could not resist thestrawberry and ice cream dessert that followed.

On leaving the restaurant I was presented with a rose andthanked for our custom. We enjoyed the food and ambienceof the restaurant immensely and would recommend to all andwill certainly return.

• Easter is now celebrated (in the words of the Book of Common Prayer) on the first Sunday after the full moonwhich happens on or after March 21, the Spring Equinox. Therefore it can occur on any Sunday from March 22ndthrough to April 25th. This year it’s on Sunday 16 th April.

• In medieval times a festival of egg throwing was held in church, during which the priest would throw a hard-boiled egg to one of the choirboys. It was then tossed from one choirboy to the next and whoever held the eggwhen the clock struck 12 was the winner and retained the egg.

• Easter Bonnets are a throw back to the days when the people denied themselves the pleasure of wearing fineryfor the duration of Lent. By tradition, it was obligatory (or at least lucky) for churchgoers to wear some bright newpiece of clothing - at least an Easter bonnet, if not a complete new outfit.

• The traditional act of painting eggs is called Pysanka.

• The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back to Egyptians, Persians, Gauls, Greeks andRomans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

• The most famous decorated Easter eggs were those made by the well-known goldsmith, Peter Carl Faberge. In1883 the Russian Czar, Alexander, commissioned Faberge to make a special Easter gift for his wife, the EmpressMarie. The first Faberge egg was an egg within an egg. It had an outside shell of platinum and enameled whitewhich opened to reveal a smaller gold egg. The smaller egg, in turn, opened to display a golden chicken and ajeweled replica of the Imperial crown. This special Faberge egg so delighted the Czarina that the Czar promptlyordered the Faberge firm to design further eggs to be delivered every Easter. In later years Nicholas II, Alexander's son, continued the custom. Fifty-seveneggs were made in all.

• In 1878 President Hayes and his wife Lucyofficially opened the White House grounds tothe children of the area for egg rolling onEaster Monday. The event has been held onthe South Lawn ever since, except duringWorld War I and World War II. During thewar years the Easter Egg Roll was held atthe National Zoo, and other Washingtonlocations.

• The Guinness Book of Records holder forthe largest Easter egg ever made is theBelgian chocolate producer Guylian whomade the chocolate egg with at least50.000 bars on behalf of the city of St.Niklaas. The egg measured 8.32metres high . Twenty-six craftsmanworked altogether 525 hours tobuild the egg. They needed 1950 kgof chocolates.

• What is the difference between a crazy bunny and a counterfeitbanknote? One is bad money and the other is a mad bunny!

• Why did the Easter egg hide? He was a little chicken!

• What do you get when you cross a bunny with an onion? A bunion

• What did the bunny want to do when he grew up? Join the Hare Force.

• What does a bunny use when it goes swimming? A hare-net.

• What did the grey rabbit say to the blue rabbit? Cheer up!

• What do you get when you pour hot water down a rabbit hole? A hot cross bunny.

• How does the Easter Bunny say Happy Easter? Hoppy Easter
