CARBINE CLUB of Tasmania- Sports Luncheon

CCTAS held a Sports Luncheon at Wrest Point Casino on Fri 29 October where two speakers were

Australian cricket Captain Tim Paine and AFL Premiership player Ben Brown.

MC for the day was media personality Ally Bradley who of course gave a polished performance in the

role; newly reelected President Steve Adermann gave members a detailed update on the trials and

tribulations of the young sportspeople who have been sponsored by the Club in recent years and

continued his detailed work by interviewing both guests.

Tim Paine delighted with his frank and clear answers to Steve’s questions showing once again what a

great captain and ambassador for sport generally that he is. Ben Brown gave an insight into his AFL

journey and also into the important work he does outside football, supporting causes that he is

deeply committed to.

Club Member and our resident auctioneer Andrew “Flapper” Wright was at his best coaxing bids for

exceptional auction items which topped up Club funds to assist in support for the Club’s sporting

sponsorships.

Former Melbourne AFL star Ray Groom with Ben - Tim Paine tells President Steve Adermann how it is!

Also in the room was another former Melbourne player

Gary “Bull” Baker but hiding from the

camera because he was uncharacteristically wearing a tie

VALE ALAN DAVIDSON AM MBE

Much has already been written and said after the passing of our esteemed Club member Alan Davidson. In a brief

summary of his stellar career as a cricketer Alan was named as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in 1962. He

was made a Member of the order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1964 and a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in

1987. He was inducted into the Sport Australia Hall of Fame in 1988, the Australian Cricket Hall of Fame in 2004, and the

ICC Hall of Fame in 2011. He received an Australian Sports Medal in 2000. Alan Davidson Oval, in Alexandria and

Wyoming, NSW, is named after him

As a member of the Carbine Club Alan was a regular contributor and attendee; the annual Davo Award made in his

honour each year to a noted contributor to the sports world will long live on- his esteem as a member of our Club was

beautifully summed up by the long term CCNSW Event Co-ordinator Victoria Ramirez who posted her own note saying:

“I had the privilege of knowing this great man. A sporting legend, he was always generous with his time, humble

and endearing... He will be dearly missed. God bless you Alan.”

That certainly sums up how Alan will be remembered by his Carbine Club fellows.
