60th Anniversary Events
We received a lot of suggestions for events to celebrate our 60th Anniversary. At
our meeting in February, the Vestry outlined the following calendar for our anni-
versary and fundraising events:
April 10 – History Sunday (The first service was held on April 8, 1956)
Suggestions for this event include: Walk down memory lane, Service in
old church, Talk from oldest members, History of building, Share 50th
Anniversary books & timeline, Recognize members with longest tenure,
“Retro” church service, “Potluck with a Purpose” or coffee hour for long-
term members to share their stories.
June 5 – Parish Picnic Suggestions for this event include: Picnic in park, Summer luau or pig
roast, Ice cream social, Barbeque.
October - Parish Retreat (Date to be determined)
This event will probably begin on Friday night and end on Sunday morn-
ing, and would be held at Christ the King.
In addition, we have identified dates for three fundraising events:
September – Breaking Bread with Family and Friends II (BBFF II)
A dinner and silent auction, modeled after the very successful BBFF (I) in
May, 2013.
November 12 - Crafts, Collectibles, and Bake Sale
We know there are lots of talented people here at Christ the King. Here’s
a chance to use your talent for the benefit of our community.
December 5 – Christmas Tea
This authentic English “high tea” is a wonderful holiday event.
This is a very ambitious schedule for 2016, and we will need help from many peo-
ple to make it all happen. Please begin to plan for how you can assist, and we ask
for your prayers for Christ the King throughout our anniversary year.

Introduction to Healing Workshop Saturday, March 5
9:00 – 11:30 a.m.
Last fall, we held our first Sunday healing service in several years, and we have planned
another healing service for Sunday, March 6. In preparation for this service, Rev. Becky
will be holding a workshop for anyone who is interested in the history and practice of
healing prayer. No prior knowledge or experience necessary!
Mosaics as Meditation Saturday, April 16, 9:00am – 2:00pm
Kathy Thaden, Instructor
Come explore modern mosaics in a contemplative setting, a time to listen and respond to
God while arranging glass and other materials into a mosaic. The Workshop will include
reflection, prayer, music and hands-on instruction and demonstrations. Beginners as well
as experienced mosaicists will benefit from their time of intentionally focusing on the cre-
ative process. Participants will create an 8” x 10” un-grouted mosaic during our time to-
gether, exploring a variety of materials.
Instructor Kathy Thaden’s award-winning mosaics have been exhibited across the US and
in Canada. Kathy describes working in mosaic as “a transforming process. The pieces
are broken, shaped, fit together and made whole again.”
Space is limited to 12 participants, and a $25 materials fee will be collected the morning
of the workshop. The deadline for registration is Friday, April 8; you can sign up in the
narthex or contact Rev. Becky (303-424-5288)
For more about Kathy and her work, visit her website at www.thadenmosaics.com
This workshop is made possible by a generous grant from the Altar Guild.

“Seasons”
Dear people of God,
It was beautiful outside this morning. A couple inches of snow had blanketed the trees and shrubs,
bringing much needed moisture while leaving the sidewalks and roads almost clear. It was a return to
seasonable weather, after a long stretch of warm temperatures and no precipitation. The warm weath-
er had been nice, giving me ample opportunity to brag to my friends back east experiencing record
cold, but it has thrown things out of balance for much in the natural world. We already have a group of crocuses bloom-
ing here at the church, daffodil buds are visible in their stems, and the star magnolia buds, next to the front doors, are in
danger of freezing before they can share their delicate beauty with us. An orderly progression of the seasons is im-
portant for sustaining life.
An orderly progression of the seasons is important for our spiritual lives as well. As much as we might want to avoid it,
seasons like Lent—a time set aside for quiet and reflection—is critical to our growth in the life of faith. Over the years,
I’ve heard a lot of complaints about worship services during Lent: “Why is the music so much like a funeral dirge?
Can’t we have something more upbeat?” And there are times when I feel that way myself. But deep down, I know I
need to let myself sink into this season, to allow God to be at work in me—forgiving, healing, restoring me—so that I
can be raised into new life again.
I also believe the same is true for our life as a faith community. We need to observe the progression of seasons in our
common life. You’ll notice that, this year, there is no special Lenten program, other than “The Way” and a weekly of-
fering of Evening Prayer. Instead, we have a couple of special one-time offerings. The “Introduction to Russian Spiritu-
ality,” led by April French, was held last month. On Saturday, March 5, we will hold a “Healing Workshop.” And, even
if it’s “on beyond” Lent, we are also offering “Mosaics as Meditation” on April 16, led by Kathy Thaden.
Even if none of these fits your interest or schedule, I do hope you will set aside time during Holy Week to take part in
the services we offer, especially Maundy Thursday (March 24), Good Friday (March 25), Holy Saturday (March 26),
and Easter Sunday. Together, we will walk the way through death into new life.
In God’s peace,
Becky+

Daughters of the King
Tuesday, March 1, 7:00 p.m. The Esther Macarina Chapter of this national organization meets next on March 1. The “Daughters” will be taking a break
from their monthly meetings over the next few months; the next regular meeting will be on Tuesday, June 7.
“The Way – for Lent” Wednesdays, March 2, 9, and 16
6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
After meeting for dinner and Evening Prayer, we will be exploring scripture texts that offer insight into our baptism and our
commitment to the Christian faith, and following this “Way” of life. All are welcome to join in this time of preparing to
affirm our baptism during the Easter Vigil on March 26.
Sunday Forum March 13, 8:45 and 11:00 a.m.
We’ll be exploring some of the lessons for the Easter Vigil and imagining new ways to present these
familiar texts.
Men’s Breakfast and Bible Study The next Men's breakfast and Bible Study is on Tuesday, March 8th from 6:30 am till 8:00 am. We will be reading and dis-
cussing Mark 14: 1-31, which includes the anointing of Jesus at Bethany and Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. All are
welcome to come and bring a friend to join us.
Vacation Bible School News
Well, the season will be upon us before you know it. VBS season, that is (and you thought I was talking about Easter,
right?). It’s time to at least think about the many ways in which you can help. There’s assembly/music, storytelling, crafts,
meals, registration, photography/slide show, theme decorating, games and small group leaders. While all of these are very
important and vital to making this program work, what we need to know as soon as possible are those interested in being
small group leaders. Small group leaders shepherd a group of kids from one station to another (crafts, games and story
time). We need 2 adults for each group. Ideally, we would have a preschool group that has their own room with their own
activities. The kids from kindergarten and up would then be divided into 3 groups that travel to the different activities. Last
year, we had to readjust this format and the 2 older groups were very large. When we have group leaders in place, then we
can determine the age boundaries and begin setting up the registration process. Please let Andi Smith know if you’re willing
and able to help out. The deadline for needing this information is Monday April 4. This is the time when planning and prep-
aration begins in earnest. We’re looking forward to hearing from you.
Sunday Morning Coffee Hour
We are looking for people to host coffee hour on Sunday mornings during March. You can sign up on the board next to the
kitchen. On Easter Sunday, we will have a potluck brunch following both services.
The Lunch Bunch
Thursday, March 10th, 11:15 a.m. at the Old Neighborhood Restaurant. . A–L, please notify Cathie Craig (303-425-5882)
and M–Z, notify Kay Simpson ( 303-422-3752) to make your reservation.
Open Plate Offering for March CTK’s March Open Offering is directed toward the St. Francis Center, serving the homeless in Denver. This is a traditional
open offering recipient for us each year as we approach Easter; in addition to the funds we collect, we also donate the towels
we use during our foot-washing ceremony on Maundy Thursday.

St. Francis Center averages around 800 visits daily, reaching 1000 on the busiest of days. They provide a wide variety of
services to the homeless including referrals for shelter, health and wellness clinics including mental health, employment
training, support, clothing and transportation assistance, social services such as assistance with obtaining a birth certificate,
bus tickets, long distance phone calls, and a wide variety of information and referral services. Their outreach services on
cold winter nights offer access to shelter and needed emergency services. They have also 312 housing units.
Volunteers are an extremely important part of their service model. They are located at 2323 Curtis St in downtown Denver,
phone 303-297-1576. To visit their website, click here. Ninety-one cents of every dollar goes directly to client services.
Neighborhood Dinner – Wednesday, March 23 We are back on schedule for the regularly scheduled neighborhood dinner. This month’s neighborhood dinner is scheduled
for Wednesday, March 23. Please check the signup sheet in the narthex to see how you can help.
St. Clare’s Table – Tuesday, March 8 Each month, the Church of Christ the King prepares and serves dinner for about 100 people. If you would like to help
cook, serve, or clean up, please contact Mark Molello ([email protected]; 720-284-7563).
Stephen Ministries For those who have suffered a loss or who are going through a difficult time, Easter can be a time of painful loneliness and
emptiness. If you are smiling on the outside but full of pain on the inside, and the joy of Easter seems far away, help is
available. Our Stephen Ministers are ready to provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care. They will listen, care, encour-
age, and pray with and for you. Stephen Ministers have been specially trained to meet your emotional and spiritual needs;
male Stephen Ministers are always matched with men, and female Stephen Ministers are matched with women. If you or
someone you know is hurting, find out more about Stephen Ministry by talking with one of our Stephen Leaders. Chelli
Mcgaughey, Audrey Blair or Lou Blair. Stephen Ministers are there to care!
Cathy’s Caribbean Update Dear Partners in Mission,
We’ve recently had our diocesan convention and celebrated 2 exciting events. We had a Eucharist in honor of Bishop Wil-
liam Skilton who has been in ordained ministry now for 50 years. He was a missionary in the DR in the mid-1960s and
returned as our assistant bishop for 5 years shortly after I moved here. He is now retired and lives full time in South Caroli-
na but comes often to reconnect with his many friends here. God has used this faithful servant in special ways here and
undoubtedly wherever he has served. What a blessing it has been to know this loving and caring man.
Our current bishop announced 2 years ago of his plans to retire, launching the search for a bishop co-
adjutor. Rev. Moises Quezada Mota was elected in July and was consecrated at the final Eucharist of the
convention. Bishop Holguin has been faithfully serving here for almost 25 years, so many of the people
are ready to see some changes. The Holy Spirit was present at the emotional service, attended by over 20
bishops from various countries, including our new Presiding Bishop. I don’t know him very well, so it
will be interesting to see if this change affects God’s ministry through me in any way. Please pray for
God’s guidance for both of our bishops: that Bishop Holguin will step aside at the right time and that
Bishop Quezada will be led by the Holy Spirit in all his decisions for the diocese.
In Christ,
Cathy

The D.R.E.A.M. Course
March 9 – May 18, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
(every other Wednesday)
St. Ambrose Church, Boulder
Last May, the Rev. Peter Munson and I traded congregations, as part of his pilgrimage. If you remember, he walked to
Christ the King from his home that morning. Peter and his wife, Julia, are offering a course to help people go after their
dreams and respond to the "God nudges" in our lives.
The D.R.E.A.M. Course is a deep dive into the process involved in making your dreams come to life. All of us possess an
inherent desire to have impact - to experience joy in our everyday lives whether at work or at home - and to make a con-
tribution. But you may lack the know-how and the support to actually live a life that reflects your dream. You may notice
an occasional longing for “something more.” Without a reliable system and community of support to move you forward,
you end up settling and shrinking rather than continuing to expand. You will conform or get lost, rather
than transform. We want to help you move in that upward spiral that will bring more joy, creativity, and deep-felt satis-
faction so when you look back on your life, all you can say is “Thank you!” For more information, contact Rev. Becky
(303-424-5288) and she will send it to you.
Quest Retreat: Colorado Diocesan Youth Event
April 1-3 for Youth in Grades 6-12. The gravity of this world pulls us to make more, do more, and be more...all at the ex-
pense of our heart and soul. The gravity of Heaven pulls us to hope more, love more, and live more. In this topsy-turvy
world, we need to know which way is really up. This Quest will explore how we are changed from the inside out so we
can turn the world upside down. To read more and register, click here.
Camping at Cathedral Ridge
There are lots of opportunities for young people to experience the joys of summer camp.
For a full listing of dates and camps, please check the website: http://cathedralridge.org/
sacred-offerings/youth-events-camps/.
Our programs encourage youth and young adults to build self-confidence by practicing
their faith as they serve others and take on physical and leadership challenges. The result is
a deeply authentic experience of spiritual life grounded in communities of faith to address
real life issues.
