WEAVING: AN ARTISTIC TALENT
Weaving is a method of fabric or textile production. It consists of
the intertwining two
separate yarns or threads
at right angles to form a
fabric or cloth. Join Cho
Doll, a talented weaver,

weaving. Class meets
every Tuesday at 10:00
am in the Art Room.
Congratulations to Sylvia
Brandfon on the publication of
her novel: The Lone Blond by
S.M. Moeller (pen name), a
family saga about a man on a
mission. Kirkus reviews wrote
that the novel "probes the
complexities of race in the
American Southwest....images of
surprising beauty...."Available
on Amazon.com.
Congratulations also to Lorna
Garrod on the publication of her
novel Maps, available on
Amazon.com. It is a story of a
young woman working on map restoration and sales who yearns
for adventure and an FBI agent who helps her find it.
The Publishing Club, a new club at the Fountains, was created for
published authors and soon-to-be published authors and will
provide resources and support for publishing and promoting
books; it is led by Sylvia Barandfon, with tech support provided by
Ricky Garrett. They will meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month
at 1pm in the Cactus Room.
LIVING WELL
Here in Tucson we enjoy 300+ days of
sunshine annually. All that ultraviolet
exposure adds up. We experience the
most UV exposure in our 60's and
beyond. As a result, the chances of
developing skin cancer increase as we
age. Not exactly what you want to think
about when stepping outside for a walk
around our beautiful campus!
In our senior years, there are steps you
can take to prevent damage and protect
yourself from prolonged exposure to the
sun’s harmful rays.
Wear sunscreenWear sunscreen. Apply the right kind
and the right amount of sunscreen. Look
for sunscreen labeled “broad
spectrum", with an SPF of at least 15.
For extended outdoor activities SPF 30
is recommended. Apply sunscreen 20
minutes prior to going outside.
Examine your skinExamine your skin. Check your body
head-to-toe every month. Look for new
moles or spots that look
different. Schedule a yearly skin check
with your healthcare professional.
Cover upCover up. Covering up will further
protect your skin from the sun. Long
pants and long-sleeved shirts made out
of breathable fabrics are good options.
Wear a wide-brimmed hat that covers
your entire head, ears. Wear UV-blocking
sunglasses to keep your face and eyes
safe, too.
Protect your skin all year round. Sun
safety is especially important for
us desert dwellers!
