  • Thank You Spike Lee ! For the release of your “A Miracle At St Anna” movie . This movie is the start of legendary status for the 92nd Infantry Division of WWII,1944. Thru the fictional eyes of heroes that fought dual wars in every conflict that the African-American Soldier has participated in, the characters of the movie reflects the emotions felt by the majority of African-American service personnel. The patriotism that called to the American side of their heritage to duty, while the disrespect of fellow service leaders challenged the abilities and courage of these dedicated service persons. The inhabitants of the Italian countryside greeted them with open arms and welcomed liberation by any patriots black or white. The movie highlights the bonds formed between the Italian freedom fighters and a group from the 92nd Infantry . The soldiers stumble upon a small village that had been cleansed by the German forces occupying the countryside around St Anna. One young boy Arturo had been victim of the cleansing, and suggests another boy Angelo walked in the same steps of the soldiers that were there to help bring freedom to the Italian village. The movie begins with the surviving soldier of this battle Hector exacting justice upon the traitor of the village. Mr. Lee manages to capture the patriotism, courage and emotion of the soldiers that fought and died at this small village in Italy for freedom in the United States

of America and Italy. “ I know where the sleeping man lives” states the character Hector but does not finish the sentence . I suspect that the sleeping man lives within each defender of liberty.

A Fiddler’s Green Tribute To All The

Troopers We’ve Lost Since The 142nd Reunion When a cavalryman dies, he begins a long march to his ultimate destination. About half-way along the road he enters a broad meadow dotted with trees and crossed by many streams, known as “Fiddler’s Green”. As he crosses The Green he finds an old canteen, a single spur, and a carbine sling. Continuing on the road he comes to a field camp where he finds all the troopers who have gone before him, with their campfires, tents and pickets lines neatly laid out. All other branches of the military must continue to march without pause. Cavalry though are authorized to dismount, unsaddle and stay in Fiddler’s Green ...their canteens ever full...the grass always green and enjoy the companionship and reminisce with old friends.

    143rd Anniversary Reunion -

"Moonlight in Vermont" says the song. For our 143rd Anniversary Reunion and the first in a New England state, Bur-lington VT is the reunion site. Reunion date is 29 July - 01 August 2009. Board of Directors meeting will be held on 28 July 2009. Hosts for the reunion are members of the Association and a committee of state residents some of whom are descendants of "Buffalo Soldiers". Sheraton Burlington Hotel and Conference Center has been selected as reunion headquarters. Objective of this reunion is to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the 10th US Cavalry Regi-ment in Vermont for garrison duty at Fort Ethan Allen, Colchester VT (3 miles from Burlington). In 1909, after a two (2) year tour of duty in the Philippine Islands, the 10th US Cavalry Regiment was transferred to Fort Ethan Allen and arrived there on 28 July 1909. In recognition of this significant event, the Governor of the State of Vermont sent a written invitation to the Association to hold the reunion in Vermont. More reunion details will appear in the next Newsletter. Advance reunion registration material will be mailed in February 2009. Early registration is requested.

Troopers Edley, Davis & Curley along with Rodney Bar-nes, City Manager for Junction City, KS view a possible home for the National Office. The building is under con-sideration. No final plans yet.
