An afternoon with NPR’s Chion Wolf We had a terrific time with Chion Wolf, radio
producer and co-host on WNPR in Hartford.
Chion gave a marvelous talk to the kids about
following
dreams, working
hard, and holding
on to whatever
“lights” them
up.” Chion spoke
about her
academic
struggles, from
not doing well in
grade school,
failing classes in
high school, and her eventual decision to drop out
of college. With
an unexpected
talent for
photography, an
engaging
personality, and a
curiosity for
learning new
things, the girl
who failed in
school found
herself in NYC
being interviewed for a photography job by one of
the oldest, most respected magazines in the
nation. It was the beginning of some incredible
adventures to
come. NPR was
hosting a contest
looking for an
announcer to do
the introduction
for its two major
national shows.
Chion, a lifelong
fan of the station
and its programs,
entered and ended
up narrowed down
in a group of applicants invited to Washington,
D.C for a final interview. Now a full-time NPR
employee, Chion continues to discover new
talents, including
that of amateur
film maker for a
project she created
and pitched to NPR
executives who
loved her idea.
Chion is a great
reminder that it’s
okay to feel lost.
Sometimes being
lost gets you
exactly to the place
you need to be.
The Office will be closed on Monday
October 10 in observance of Columbus Day.
FINAL REMINDER
All air conditioners must
be removed from
windows by October
15th.
Did you Know? High school
graduates are more
likely to find jobs
than people without a
diploma and more
likely to see higher
wages. Individuals
with a diploma
earned more than
$10,000 a year
compared to those
who dropped out of
school.
The Bristol Housing Authority Newsletter October 2016
Hi everyone, now that autumn has
arrived we can finally expect cooler
weather, especially during the nights
when temperatures will be dropping.
In her poem, A Woman’s Birthday [In
August], the American poet Sarah
Morgan Bryan Piatt wrote, "It is the Summer's great last heat, It
is the Fall's first chill: they meet.” If you must turn the heat on
please be aware of the Housing Authority's policy of closing all
doors and windows to keep heat inside. Remember, all air con-
ditioners must be removed by October 15th. As always, the
Housing Authority has consistently strived to make
improvements wherever needed at their properties. Whether it
be maintenance repairs, working on property appearances, or
upgrading security systems for a safe living environment.
Residents should be very proud of all the projects staff has
tirelessly worked on to achieve. Please feel free to contact me
at: [email protected]. with any questions or
comments. You may also send correspondence to me at: David
Godin, 164 Jerome Ave., Bristol, CT 06010.
FROM THE MAIN OFFICE
We need your help keeping your neighborhood looking
nice and well-maintained. Please pick up any litter
around your home. Someone else may have put it there
but it’s your home, so please show everyone the pride
you have in your home by removing any trash around
your area. Let’s work together to keep your community
clean and neat.
We will be having a community clean-up day with
Housing Authority Staff, the Boys and Girls Club, and
the families living at Cambridge Park. You will be
notified when a date has been chosen. You can also
periodically check our Facebook page for an update on
our Fall clean up day.
Emergency Preparedness Presentation Receives Good Turn-out!
When our friends from the City of Bristol, Harley and Ed, stopped by to put on an emergency
preparedness presentation, we knew it would probably be one of the most important events for our
residents. We learned a lot about what to do in an emergency such as what supplies to pack in an
emergency bag and what documents to protect in the event of a natural
disaster. Emergency preparedness presentations also took place at
Gaylord Towers and JFK apartments.
