Old and New Heroes Excell In Kyalami`s Interfile SA Motorcycle Championship Races This year’s season-opening Interfile South African Motorcycle championship races at Kyalami produced sterling performances from both old and new heroes last Saturday (February 20). In the process, two new participating manufacturers also showed that they will be a force to be reckoned with. The opening Superbike heat saw Lance Isaacs (Bikefin Honda Fireblade) on pole position, sharing the front row of the grid with Greg Gildenhuys (Honda SA Fireblade), Chris Leeson (Bikefin Honda Fireblade) and Sheridan Morais (Emtek Aprilia). Isaacs blasted into the lead at the start of the race and hung on to win, after beating off a persistent challenge from reigning champion Morais on the all-new Aprilia. After Leeson’s Honda slowed with handling maladies, Gildenhuys rode to a consistent third place. Julian Odendaal (MS Aircon Suzuki), Nicholas Grobler (Jonway Honda) and Heinrich Rheeder (PTA North Yamaha) filled out the top six places. The second time around, Morais muscled his way to the front on the third lap and he stayed there to give Aprilia its first South African Superbike race victory.Second, after chasing hard for the entire ten laps, was Isaacs, with Gildenhuys again taking the final podium place. Chris Leeson finished fourth, leading home Julian Odendaal and Dane Hellyer (Bikefin Honda Fireblade).
Sheridan Morais set the quickest lap times in both races. Meanwhile, youngster Charles Waterman took Honda’s stock standard
Development Fireblade to remarkable seventh and ninth places in the two races, respectively.
Ronan Quarmby (Interfile Gallardo Yamaha) won both of the day’s Interfile 600 Supersport races, but only after beating off various serious challenges. In the first race, he was harassed throughout by youngster Dean Vos (VTR Metals Kawasaki), who finished second and set the quickest lap time. Meanwhile Robert Portman took his new Emtek Triumph to the final podium place, first time out. Steven Odendaal (MS Aircon Suzuki) took an impressive fourth place after scything through the field from the 18th starting position. He was followed over the finish line by Clinton Alberts (Kyalami Honda) and Brent Harran, on his Bikefin Honda. Portman initially led race two on the Triumph, but came together with Clinton Alberts’ Honda in Clubhouse corner and both riders crashed out. That left Ronan Quarmby to win from Dean Vos again, this time with Quarmby scoring the quickest lap. Bjorn Estment (NFB Financial Yamaha) finished third, ahead of Bikefin Honda’s Brent Harran and Jacques Peskens, plus Dylan White (JW White Aluminium Yamaha).
The next round of the 2010 Interfile SA Motorcycle Championship will take place at the Western Cape Killarney circuit on Saturday, March 13.
Wesbank Super Series - Kyalami 20 February 2010 BEGINS
For 2010, the Honda CBR1000RR Fire-blade gets a few new paint schemes and a few (barely discernable?) styling
mods, including a modified tail unit with new clear lens taillamp and an aluminium muffler cover
According to the details given on Honda’s press website, ‘Innovations have been made to absorb fluctuations in engine torque and improve throttle control. The ACG flywheels have been made bigger and crankshaft rigidity has been enhanced to fit the flywheel size, increasing crankshaft inertia mass by 6.87%. This enables generation of optimal crankshaft inertia mass during racing, improving throttle control and racing potential. This has been achieved without any increase in weight through the use of lightweight components including an aluminium cylinder head sealing bolt, thin-walled flange sec-tion for the exhaust pipe and a smaller fan motor.’
‘Our oxygen-sensing HECS3 (Honda Evolutional Catalysing System) constantly moni-tors emissions, reducing any harmful gases and tailoring fuelling for the most efficient combustion mixture,’ says a press release from Honda.
As with last year’s model, Honda’s excellent C-ABS is an option on the Fireblade and is an absolute must-have in our opinion. Accessories available for the 2010 ’Blade include carbonfibre rear wheel hugger, front mudguard and crankcase covers, carbon-fibre-look tank pad and fuel lid covers, colour-matched rear seat cowl, taller windscreen (black-tinted or clear), replacement rider’s seat based on elastomer mesh technology, seat bag, tank bag, anti-theft kit, tubular steel paddock stand and a special ECU for C-ABS circuit usage. Pricing and availability details for the 2010 CBR1000RR and 600 to be added here shortly.
2010 FIREBLADE
Since Honda has been a little behind in the liter class of sportbikes the 2010 model finally steps up to the plate. With some new paint and graphic schemes, and up-dated engine make the Blade ready for the 2010 Bike of the year competition. With last years introduction of ABS and electronic steering stabilizer the 2010 model builds on that foundation to continue in the engine de-partment.
The Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade – which also sports some vibrant new colors and graphics. The ‘Blade now comes with sharper rear styling, thanks to an updated
tail unit shape, which houses a new tail-light with a clear lens. Also updated is the ex-haust muffler, which now comes with an aluminum cover.Internally, an improvement to the inertia mass of the crankshaft will further aid throttle control. This change was made without any overall increase in weight, thanks to the use of lightweight components elsewhere in the 999cc machine. This is will produce the same type of results as the crossplane crank of the yamaha without actually changing the firing order.
For 2010 the Fireblade will still come with an optional Combined ABS version, which includes Honda’s revolutionary anti-lock braking system and adds peace of mind and safety to this cutting-edge performer. Colors now include Digital Silver Metallic with Or-ange, Graphite Black with white/black striping, HRC Tricolour, and a special all Graphite Black model.
New for 2010• Increased-diameter flywheel for more inertia and improved performance.• Redesigned license plate stay for easier removal on track days.• New muffler cover for enhanced appearance.• Exciting new colors: Pearl Orange/Light Metallic Silver and Red/Black. C-ABS model available in Black only.
The 2010 Honda CBR600RR continues as before, with no mechanical or cosmetic changes. C-ABS is still available as an option (an absolute must-have, in our
opinion) and a new paint scheme is available, that incorporates a woman’s face in a styl-ised, high-contrast pattern. We’d much rather stick to the very cool red-white-and-blue or all-black paintjobs though, thanks very much.
Available accessories for the 2010 CBR600RR include a black-tinted windscreen, col-our-matched seat cowl, colour-coordinated racing stickers, lots of carbonfibre parts and a special ECU calibrated for C-ABS circuit usage.

The Scorpion Sports factory (Kido Industrial Co., Ltd.) is a state-of-the-art, 810,000 sq. ft. campus, staffed by as many as 400 skilled technicians, each dedicated to crafting the world’s best protective headgear. Almost every operation needed to create world-class helmets is located on this one amazing facility, including both fiberglass/Kevlar™ and polycarbonate shell molding, EPS liner manufacturing, liner sewing, water-decal production, clean-room paint booths, drying rooms, assembly, packaging and shipping.
Many helmet brands simply private-label helmets purchased from generic mass manufacturers. And most other helmet brands sub-contract major portions of their manufacturing to smaller vendors.
