What is facial hair?
Facial hair...
Is a right of passage, the symbol of becoming a man, it’s a statement; it’s
hair that grows out of your face. Facial hair is what distinguishes a male
from another male. Depending on the chap, a diverse range of styles can
be sported. An increase level of testosterone in the early developmental
stages of young boy’s life causes the growth of facial hair. A person’s
genetic background can influence what a man can grow; a beard, mous-
tache, sideburns, or even peach fuzz. Individuals themselves can choose
what style to display; a chinstrap, the Fu Manchu, a soul patch, the Hit-
ler, etc. The next few pages are random students and faculty members
of the University of Wisconsin-Stout and their facial hair. Displayed next
to the photos are the males’ age and their descriptions of their facial.1
