PRESIDENTS MESSAGE
This time of year it’s a challenge to decide - - “Do I stay indoors and quilt or go outside and work in the garden?”
Never mind house cleaning. With the slightly warmer weather, the birds singing and the flowers beginning to bloom it’s wonderful to be outdoors. I love Big Bear!!!
Don’t forget to be working on those quilts for DOVES and Mom & Dad’s Project. They are still in need of our efforts.
Another fun and educational workshop was held in March. Bonnie Marshall-Creel brought her enormous supply of fabric paints, crayons, pencils, etc. for us to share. She had many examples to show us and we got to PLAY. For those of us who have very little of this type of material (and some who have quite a bit) it was a great opportunity to find out what we would like to get for ourselves. We learned different techniques and do’s and don’ts of using various media. I never thought I would be coloring fabric, but I think I’m hooked. Thank you, Bonnie Happy Quilting - B~ Bonnie Snell, President
April Dinner before the Meeting
The dinner this month will be at the Big Bear Lake Brewing Company! We will be dining upstairs and I understand that there is an elevator for guests not wishing to use the stairs! They have a wonderful menu, especially the appetizers! My personal favorite is the Avocado Bomb!
Please join me at 4 pm before the meeting at Pine Knot Ave. and Stone Rd. Behind the Peppercorn!
See you there! Laurie Nahay 909 754 0186

Good news, Jacque Holmes is not going to need further surgery on her back. I (Beverly Bennett)
have been cleared by my doctor of anything ‘really bad’ and am learning how to use my new long-arm
quilting machine.
Jan Jamriska wants everyone to know how much she will miss us all. The movers are coming on April
18th to move them to their new home. She is very close to Monica’s, so if you are in the area be
sure and give her a call. She already is making plans to visit Jacque and Janet, her new neighbors.
Happy Easter.

Annual Picnic August 22, 2017
Please mark your calendars for our picnic which has been moved from July to August this year! We will
be exchanging embellished tea towels this year wrapped in a fat quarter of quilting cotton by playing a
game whereby we can steal from each other! I wanted to give you a heads up so you would have plenty
of time to complete yours as we don't want anyone to be left out! If you don't want to participate in
the game please come anyway as this is a great opportunity to get to know your quilting sisters!
A little bird told me that Belinda has toweling fabric and has just recently stocked the cutest little
yo-yo tea towel patterns! Laurie Nahay

Busy Bears Quilt Guild Program Update for April
Many thanks go to Bonnie Marshal-Creel for her informative lecture and trunk show last month. I do
so admire her artworks. Bonnie’s multi-media workshop was fun. As promised, she supplied numerous
art supplies for us to “play” with, and demonstrated how to use them. Again, thank you Bonnie.
Belinda Evans will be our presenter this month. She plans to give us lots of inspiration for her
Confetti Nature Scape workshop on Tuesday. She has a slide show of great landscaping quilts that she
saw at the Huston Quilt Show.
The fee for the workshop is $20 for members and $35 for non-members.
In addition to Belinda’s presentation, we will have a book sale. Lori Felber and friends have
reorganized the extra books in our library, and will have them available for members to buy at
Monday’s meeting.
Sue Bouchard is coming up to Big Bear for our May meeting. Modern Quilts will be the subject of her
lecture, and “Moon Dance” will be the pattern used for her workshop. Patterns will be available for a
$7 fee.
Looking ahead for June ~ Nancy Ota will present her Quilter’s Journey and Trunk Show. The
workshop will give us an opportunity to learn Sashiko stitching techniques. Nancy will have a kit
available for $5.
