Pembrokeshire County Wedding Fair

T HE Pembrokeshire

County Wedding Fair

 was initiated by a

small group of

businesses from the wedding

industry and the Pembrokeshire

Agricultural Society.

It was felt that something bigger

was needed – to offer more choice

to local couples. It is a chance to

show to show that you could get

everything you need for a

wedding/civil ceremony – or other

big celebration – from

Pembrokeshire and its borders.You

can shop locally. Held twice a year

the fair has moved from the Pavillion

to the larger Brithdir Hall and the

aim is to always have at least at least

100 stands.

As the event is run by volunteers, the price for stands is kept to a

minimum allowing for a wide range

of businesses: small and large, new

and established.With 100 or more

stands, you will need to set aside

some time for your visit. With this in

mind, there are refreshments

available: tea and coffee from the Paul

Sartori Foundation café, and also pig

roast rolls from Ken Davies, of

Crymych, all supporting the local

hospice at home charity.

Entry is free, with a £300 entry

prize draw to be spent with an

exhibitor/exhibitors.This March, the

sponsor of the prize is Newport

Links, a coastal wedding venue in the

north of Pembrokeshire.

The Pembrokeshire County

Wedding Fair is proof that if you

want to have your wedding in west

Wales and support local businesses,

you have a wide choice of services to

suit a broad range of budgets andstyles, from formal to quirky.

You will find practically everything

needed for a perfect day, even

mothers and guests are

forgotten.The exhibito

surprise you with thing

haven’t thought of!

If you are organising a

of celebration: eg. an an

birthday, you may also f

Always get a proof (a sample print)

your wedding invitations from the

ationer or printer before giving the

-ahead to have them printed up.

heck through the proof very

refully to ensure there are no

nting errors and that times and

nues are correct.

Make sure you have more items on

ur wedding present list than you

ve wedding guests. It can be

wkward if you get the same present

om two or more people. It also

ows for gifts from people who

nnot attend.

Always keep a constantly updated

t of who’s coming to your wedding

case of changes. Make sure these

ve several contact numbers for

ch person – like home and work mbers – so that you can make

ick, pain-free re-arrangements. If

u have a computer, try keeping all

e wedding details on file so it can

quickly updated and printed off.

A good map with well thought out

d clear instructions is an absolute

ust to ensure that everyone arrives

time.

Order of Service sheets at church

eddings can be easily overlooked

d often become part of the last

nute rush. This is a shame, because

can act as a permanent memento of ur day. Make sure you have one for

ery guest plus a few extra to hand.

6. In the post-wedding day rush, it

may escape your mind to send out

thank you cards. If you want them

done in the same style as your

invitations, they should be ordered at

the same time.

7. Double check details with your

photographer. Once you have gone

through the business of booking a

photographer, ensure that you send

them your requirements in writing

and get a confirmation slip from

them. Remember: Never make

assumptions about the service that is

provided. Ask, ask, ask.

8. If you are having a video made,

check with your minister that the

service can be filmed. Most are

agreeable, but some object to having a

video of such an important ceremony.

9. Ask to see the car you will be

going to the ceremony in. Being told

that it is a vintage Rolls Royce,

however impressive that seems, is not

enough. You should check to see how

the car has been maintained, make

sure there is enough room in the

back for the bride and her dress and

make sure it is in a colour you like.

10. Ensure that the church, register

office or hotel don’t mind handfuls of

confetti being thrown around their

entrances. Some might prefer you to

use rice or sugar paper.A simplecheck will avoid any bad feeling.

ORGANISING a wedding is a mixture of fun,

ustration and ruthless military planning.

here are some things which, if forgotten,

THE rule on the wedding invitation list is that it

falls to the family of the bride to draw up the list,

then offer the groom’s family a 50-50 split. But it’s

their call.If one family is much larger than the other, or the friends

of the bride far outweigh the friends of the bridegroom, a

friendly compromise needs to be reached taking into

account the space available and/or budget.

The invitations should be sent out up to three months

before the wedding, but no later than six weeks before, so

the guests can free up their diary for the day (or plan

their trip if to get there involves a lot of travel).

If children are not included in the invitation it should be

taken as read that they are not invited.

It seems a bit harsh but many bridal couples don’t like

the idea of a group of young kids charging around or

screaming during the service or reception. It’s their day

after all so respect their wishes. If in doubt ask.

If you want to be very traditional, an invitation should be

sent to the groom’s parents, the presiding clergyman, rabbietc and their wives, if applicable.

Invitations

. Don’t forget your luggage. If you

e going straight off on honeymoon,

en don’t forget to pack your

gage properly.This takes thought

d effort at the best of times, but

en you are also getting married

ngs can be overlooked. Double

eck those three essentials: passport,

oney and tickets!

. Make sure that your hotel or

staurant has a suitable cake stand (if

eded) and cake knife available. If

t, bring your own. After all, you

ouldn’t want to be photographed

sing with a steak knife over the

ke!

. Before booking a reception at a

tel or restaurant, try the food for

urself.A nicely laid out menu does

t guarantee good food, and it’s a

od excuse for some meals out.

. Almost as important as the

ality of the food at your receptionnue is the availability of parking,

pecially if the reception is held a

ng distance from the ceremony.

on’t forget to check the car parking

ilities before you book and make

sure that, at the time of your

reception, the car park won’t be full

of cars attending another event.

15. Don’t forget to enjoy yourself. If

little things go wrong, don’t worry –

this is your special day so there

should be plenty of people around to

put things right. Relax, have a good

time and enjoy the start to your

married life.

 Don’t forget

 to enjoy

  yourself.

 If little things

 go wrong,

don’t worry –  this is your

 special day.

Every bride wants to look

beautiful on

her big day - with hair and

make-up just asimportant as the

perfect dress.

All made up for her big dayFOR most brides it is a case of wanting to look ‘naturally beautiful’ on

their wedding day so heavy, over the

top make-up is a big no no. But youdon’t have to stick to boring browns

and beiges and a little colour can bevery special.

This season’s in colours include

yellow and green, which while

sounding dramatic can be veryflattering providing they are mixed and

blended.Wearing white can be very draining

for some colourings, so it’s important

to plan well ahead what make-up youshould be using.

Look through magazines to find the

kind of look you want to achieve anddiscuss it with whoever you are

choosing to do the make-up on the

day.

If you’re saving cash, it could be afriend or family member whoseknow-how is spot on, but there’s

nothing like a professional who knows

what they’re doing.Opt for a trial session and take along

picture examples of what you like – it

can be hard to explain in words the

exact look you’re after and an imagesays it all.

A trial session also means you can

experiment and avoid mistakeswhen it comes to the day. What

you think looks great on amodel or celebrity in a picture just may not work on you.

Wedding make-up needs to

endure a lot, from all thekisses and good wishes to

heat of the disco lights andlate night dancing.

Water and smudge proof

products will help avoidaccidents through the day and

avoid heavy cream foundations

that will rub off.Keep tissues on hand for

emergency repairs through

the day.A don’t forget the

bridesmaids shouldcomplement thebride’s look,

so work

togetherfor a

beautiful

result.

OUR wedding day is something you will remember for

any years to come.

’s a chance to get together with friends and family to celebrate a

on between two people who are committed to a life together.veryone has different ideas about what makes the perfect

dding day, but whether you are looking for a traditional day withwhite dress, church and grand reception for hundreds of guests,

a smaller intimate affair for close family only, planning and

ganisation in advance is the key to a happy day.

here are plenty of places to find step by step guides and

ormation about how to plan your big day online, and a chat withends and family about their experiences will help you avoid any

falls they may have come across.

very bride wants to look beautiful on her big day andotographs are often something people panic about.

little planning in advance can help ensure you have the perfect

dding photographs as a memento of your day.he most important thing to think about is what type of

otographs you want and who to take them. Some wedding

otographers can be more expensive than others, but it’sportant to ensure the person you choose has the skills to get the

e of pictures you require.ome people prefer traditional posed shots, while others are

oking for a relaxed natural feel to the moments captured. When choosing a professional photographer ask to see examples

previous weddings they’ve covered, and find out what they

lude in their price. Will they supply prints? If so what size? Willey supply a disk or album?

this day and age people are becoming obsessed with digital

ages, but there’s nothing like the feel of a beautiful photo albumbrowse through that you can touch and that doesn’t rely on

tteries or access to the internet! You can either put the album

gether yourself, or some firms will supply them for you.Don’t overlook the fact photographers may have been to the

dding/reception venue you’ve chosen in the past so might have

as of particular shots that could look good.

Make a list of what family photographs you require beforehand

d ensure you brief the photographer if you have specificquirements or ideas for your big day.

nd don’t forget if people are arriving in special costumes or youve a theme to warn the photographer in advance so they know

at to look out for.

you’re asking a friend to take photos, don’t forget to brief themwhat you want and ensure they’re up to the job of producing

at you are expecting so no-one is disappointed.

sk people to bring their own cameras and send you any pictures

or supply disposable cameras on the tables at the reception.meone is bound to capture an unexpected and delightful moment

that cannot be planned for.

A guest book or scrap book can also add to the memories of your special day.Ask guests to write messages on slips provided. These can be shaped or on special paper of varying colours to

match your theme and then glued into a beautiful album/scrap book

later to avoid worries over spillages or drunken messages.A lasting memory of your wedding day is something you, and your

family, will treasure for many years to come.
