SECOND COLLECTION This weekend, January 10-11, the Second Collection is for our Diocesan Mission in Latin America. It enables the Bishop to respond to Mission Appeals from the Society of the Immac-ulate Conception and various other Mission projects.

MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR. Monday, January 19th, is the Mar tin Luther King Day and a National Holiday. The Rectory Office will be closed. Mass will be at 7:00am and 9:00am. There will be no Ex-position of the Blessed Sacrament. The Church will close following the 9:00am Mass.

THE BAPTISM OF THE LORD Modern theology often emphasizes the humanity of Jesus: He is fully human like us, He is able to feel pain, anger, and the sadness seeing his disciples, his brothers and sisters acting in a deceitful ways so we can relate to him and he personally understand what is to be human. That’s the best example we should follow and try hard to understand others human beings. Who is this person who is greater than the greatest of the prophets, in whom the Spirit dwells in a unique way, and whom God calls my beloved Son? Slowly and patiently the apostles and we in our journey of faith come to knew that He is the Divine Son our Messiah, and Jesus is one of us: fully human and more!

OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST The Blessed Jesus Christ, Our Lord of Esquipulas, or the Black Christ of Esquipulas, is celebrated on January 15. Where beats the heart of Central America, near Honduras, and El Salvador, in east-ern Guatemala, Cerro del Quetzal rises, emblematic bird of Guate-mala soul. More than four hundred years ago, people wanted to have an image of the Crucified, to worship in it the mystery of salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ. And they asked him carve, almost life-size, a crucified Christ that over time he was trans-ferred to the city of Esquipulas, which would be kept in its sanctu-ary. What is Guadalupe, with its devoci6n to the Black Madonna of Juan Diego, what is Esquipulas with the Black Christ. The color is due to the wood on which is carved, and perhaps also the accu-mulated time. There are hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who come to kiss the image and embrace his feet, bringing their trou-bles, sorrows and gratitude. The hundreds of people become thou-sands at Easter and other holidays. This image linked to that of Guadalupe, unites our peoples who have a common American roots, a shared history, and a united destine to come. The two great loves of our Latin American Catholic people: The Cross of Christ and the Mother of Jesus.

BAUTISMO DE NUESTRO SEÑOR La teología moderna a menudo hace hincapié en la humanidad de Jesús: El es plenamente humano como nosotros. El es capaz se sentir el dolor, la ira y la tristeza de ver a sus discípulos, a sus hermanos y hermanas que actúan de maneras engañosas para poder relacionarnos con El y en El personalmente podemos entender lo que es ser hu-mano. Ese es el mejor ejemplo que debemos seguir y esforzarnos para entender a los demás seres humanos. ¿Quien es esta persona que es mayor que el mas grande de los profetas, en quien mora el Espíri-tu de una manera única, y que Dios llama mi “Hijo amado”? Poco a poco y con paciencia los apóstoles y nosotros en nuestro camino de fe aprendemos que El es el Hijo Divino, nuestro Mesías, y que Jesús es uno de nosotros: ¡totalmente humano y mucho mas!

NUESTRO SEÑOR JESUCRISTO El Santísimo Jesucristo. Señor Nuestro de Esquipulas, se celebra el 15 de enero. Allí donde late el corazón de América Centra, muy cerca de Honduras, y de El Salvador, en el oriente de Guatemala, se levanta el cerro Quetzal, pájaro emblemático del alma guate-malteca. Hace algo mas de cuatrocientos años, la población quiso tener una imagen del Crucificado, para poder venerar en ella el misterio de salvación realizado por Nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Y pidieron que se le tallara, en tamaño casi natural, un Cristo crucifi-cado que con el transcurso del tiempo fue trasladado a la ciudad e Esquipulas donde quedaría custodiado en su santuario. Lo que es Guadalupe, con su devoción a la Virgen morena de Juan Diego, lo es Esquipulas con su Cristo negro. Lo del color se debe a la mane-ra en la que esta tallado, y quizá también al tiempo acumulado. Son centenares de miles los peregrinos que acuden a besar la ima-gen y a abrazarse a sus pies, trayéndole sus cuitas, sus penas y su gratitud. Y estos miles se vuelven un millón y medio en la Semana Santa y en otras festividades. Su imagen, unida a la de Guadalupe, une a nuestros pueblos que tienen una raíz americana común, una historia compartida y un destino de unidad aun por realizar. Los dos grandes amores de nuestro pueblo católico latinoamericano: La Cruz de Cristo y la Madre de Jesús.

TALLERES DE CRECIMIENTO HUMANO La Doctora Everlyn Damiani Simmonds quien es una reconocida psicóloga y además involucrada en la Iglesia en la formación de los Religiosos estará en nuestra parroquia para dictar diferentes Talleres que ayuden al crecimiento humano de los feligreses del Santísimo Sacramento. INFORMACION SOBRE LA ACCION EJECUTIVA DEL PRESIDENTE OBAMA El 20 de noviembre de 2014, el presidente Obama anuncio que los padres de ciudadanos estadounidenses y residentes permanentes que han estado en los estados Unidos desde el 1 de enero de 2010 pueden obtener el permiso para vivir en el pis y obtener la autoriza-ción de empleo durante tres años. El programa se llama Acción Diferida para la Responsabilidad Parental (DAPA) por sus siglas en ingles. Se espera que USCIS comenzara a aceptar solicitudes de DAPA bajo el nuevo programa a mediados de MAYO de 2015. Para ser elegible debe cumplir con los siguientes requisitos: Demostrar que es el padre del ciudadano estadounidense o residente permanente legal nacido en o antes del 1 de enero de 2010 hasta la actualidad. Haber residido continuamente en los Estados Unidos desde el 1 de enero de 2010. Haber estado presente en los Estados Unidos el 20 de noviembre de 2014. No haber sido condenado por un delito mayor, un delito menor significativo, o tres o mas delitos menores. OBAMA ADMINISTRATION’S DEFERRED ACTION INFORMATION On November 20, 2014, President Barack Obama announced that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) would not de-port certain undocumented parents of U.S. citizens and parents of lawful permanent residents (LPRs). The president also announced an expansion of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program for youth who came to the United States as children. Under a directive from the secretary of DHS, these parents and youth may be granted a type of temporary permission to stay in the U.S. called “deferred action.” The application might be available by MAY, 2015. To be eligible for deferred action under DAPA, you must:

Be the parent of a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. Have continuously lived un the U.S. since January 2010. Have been present in the U.S on November20, 2014. It’s also likely that you will need to be present in the U.S. every day from now until you apply for DAPA Have not been convicted of certain criminal offenses, including any felonies and some misdemeanors.
