What a wonderful celebration of education we had at Austral Public School last week, starting on Wednesday with open classrooms and an assembly hosted very capably by our Kindergarten students. On Thursday our P & C Fun Run was held and the students certainly enjoyed the funand the runas well as raising a very healthysum to purchase school equipment. The week finished off with the Primary Athletics Carnival on the school oval. Luckily we had absolutely perfect weather for this event, which ran very smoothly thanks to the organisation by our stage 3 teachers. We saw many talented stu- dents, who as a result of their efforts will be going to the Zone Athletics Carnival on 23 rd August. As well as talented stu- dents we have talented teachers as well. I know a highlight of the day for many of us was the teachers race, which was won by Mr Vartuli with a very close second from Mr McKay (who knew he was so competitive!), Miss Le, one of our casu- al teachers, gave them both a very good run and came third. Id like to thank all of our students, parents and teachers for their enthusiastic participation in all of these events. Allergy Awareness! Some students are highly allergic to nuts and nut products. If they come into contact with these foods they will have an anaphylactic reaction, which can be life threatening. The school has a number of strategies to help provide a safe and supportive environment for our students at risk of an anaphylactic reaction, including seeking community support. We request parents avoid sending peanut butter, Nutella and similar spreads, or whole nuts to school. We provide support to all students to be aware of a nut allergy, and their contribution to providing a safe environment including not sharing or touching othersfood. We ask that families keep us regularly updated about students medical needs. Enrolments for 2019 It has come to that time again, when we need to submit information, so we can plan for next year. As you may already know our school is funded and staffed according to the number of students who will be attending the following year. For this reason, it is essential that we take into consideration all new enrolments from kindergarten to year 6 and any stu- dents who will not be returning to Austral PS in 2019 (other than current year 6). Please contact the office if you are aware that either of these things apply to your family. We would also appreciate if you can pass this message on to neighbours if they have school age children ready to enrol next year. 125 th Anniversary Community Picnic We hope that as many past and present Austral PS students, families and staff will join us on the school back oval on 22 nd September from 11am to 3pm for this very special event. To help us with organisation and some catering, please RSVP number attending to [email protected] by 10 th September 2018. Parent Workshop from School Counsellor On Wednesday 29th August (Week 6) our School Counsellor Jenny Zaman will host a free 1 hour seminar on how par- ents and carers can navigate the increasingly complex relationship between children's social media use and mental health. The seminar will cover strategies for you and your child to manage social media, cyberbullying, how to have conversations with your child about self-harm and suicide, and where you can get more support. The seminar is targeted to parents/carers of students in Years 4-6, however parents/carers of younger children are also welcome to attend. It will commence at 9:15am in the library. Jenny will be happy to answer your questions and take feedback at the end of the seminar, and attendees will receive resources to take home. Jan Rogers

Primary Athletics Carnival

On the 10th of August it was our Athletics Carnival. We had 5 competition events and two novelty activities. We started off the day with 800m, 200m and 100m sprints, and then we separated into age groups. Each age group went to a different event. The 5 competition events were high jump, long jump, discus, shot put and sprints. We had a great time and were lucky to have amazing weather all day. Congratula-tions to Edmondson for scoring the most amount of points on the day.

Uniform Orders

Uniform orders are to be placed at the office no later than

Friday morning 9.30am. Orders will be filled out on

Friday and delivered to the child’s class. Please place cor-

rect money in envelope with their name and class.

Change of Clothes It is a good idea to put spare underpants and either grey shorts or pants for boys and skorts or royal blue pants for girls for Kindergarten and Year 1 students in their bag as the office only has a limited number of spare clothes. Thank you
