THE ARTS AT FREEPORT MEMORIAL LIBRARY
EL ARTE EN FREEPORT MEMORIAL LIBRARY
Primavera 2016 SPRING 2016 SEASON
Dear Freeport Patrons,
Prolific writer, Pablo Neruda said “You can cut all flowers but you
cannot keep spring from coming.” Whether the winter lingers or not, it
reminds us to welcome spring with renewed hope! Classical Music and Art
both reflect the beauty of culture and life. Freeport Memorial Library strives
to present these entities to enrich the community with quality performances
and inspiring art exhibits, lectures and documentary series.
Our Art Lectures will feature African American artist, Jacob Lawrence
(1917-2000), Spanish artist, Francisco Goya (1746-1828) and French artist,
Paul Gauguin (1848-1903). All of these gentlemen depicted culture during
their time in a unique and expressive way.
The FML Classical Music Season will resume in February 2016 with more
great concerts and talks. We continue to celebrate Spanish composer,
Enrique Granados (1867-1916) and the valuable contributions of Spanish
Classical Music. The Belle Sylvester Recital Series concludes with two
exceptional singers: soprano, Laura Strickling and mezzo soprano,
Clara Osowski. In April you will hear the Long Island Composers Alliance in
partnership with students from local schools. This event gives young music
students the opportunity to perform contemporary works by living
composers from Long Island. I am also proud to announce that in May we
will have opera artist, Regina Zona who will be accompanied by virtuosic
pianist, Kathleen Tagg. Our longtime music lecturer and pianist, Philip
Malamud will close the season with a concert featuring Enrique Granados’
works. I am excited to present all musicians to you because Freeport
deserves excellence!
I hope you enjoy the second half of the season.
With Warm Regards,
Tanisha Mitchell

Estimado Usuarios,
Jacob Lawrence (1917-2000), artista español, Francisco Goya (1746-1828) y
Strickling y mezzo soprano, Clara Osowski. En abril se escuchará the Long
de Long Island.
Tanisha Mitchell
