• Choose a topic you know and care about

How to find topics• Brainstorm: make a list of as many
topics as possible• Browse the net• Read magazine and newspapers

• Tell the class about your childhood• Where did you live? What kind of
childhood did you have?• State any events that had a
special effect on you• Any relative you were particularly
fond of

• Demonstration speech: A speech on how to do some thing like bake a cake, mend a fuse, iron clothes use a UPS etc

Suggestions for effective impromptu speeches
• Choose your topic quickly and wisely
• Choose the topic you are best fitted to speak
• Consider your audience and their interest
impromptu
• Organize your speech• Think of an interesting attention getter• State your topic• Break the body of the speech into two
or three main points• Provide a conclusion that restates your
point

• Determine beforehand which organization pattern you will use
• Two sided arguments for and against• Chronological order past, present and
future• Space order which looks at issues by

Suggestions for effective manuscript speaking
• Manuscript speech is word for word reading
• Make sure your speech is well written• Use a type manuscript• Check pronunciation of all the words
you have difficulty in pronouncing
Manuscript speaking• Make marks on the manuscript to show
where you want to pause, go slow, use special emphasis, speed up
• Make sure the page breaks come at the end of the paragraphs
• Number your pages so that you do not look for a page in the middle of the speech

• Practice with your script as naturally as it would be spoken in conversation
• Be willing to deviate from the script if the audience do not understand any thing provide them with additional example
Memorized mode of speaking
• The delivery of the speech carefully written and memorized
Memorized speech• Suggestion for memorizing;• Memorize line by line: Learn the
first line till you know it thoroughly.• Then learn the second line and put
the two together and repeat• Add the third line and continue
memorized• Tape your speech and listen to it
while jogging, driving, working just like listening to music. This will reinforce it in your mind
• Type your speech this will help you to memorize it
• Memorize it before going to sleep

speaking• Try to speak without a podium• Use gestures• Move between one idea and the
next, but do not pace up and down• Make direct eye contact
Delivery of informative speech
• Don’t overestimate or underestimate what your audience know
• Emphasize how your listeners Can benefit from your information
• Relate your information to the interest of your audience Use examples that are familiar to your audience
Informative speaking• Try to get your audience to participate
in the following way– Use volunteers to demonstrate what you
are informing– Have the audience follow your instructions
directly– Use a fun quiz on the material being

• Relate the speech to the interest of the audience
• Build credibility: show that you have expertise in the subject you are discussing
