Premise
“In less than thirty years, the public square, meet-ing ground of culture, has almost disappeared, swallowed by a radically new concept of aggrega-tion, which is closely linked to the business rela-tions. [...] The malls have created a new architec-ture for hosting the meeting between individuals: an architecture dropped in the commercial world in which culture exists only as a commodified experi-ence. [...] But, what is even more important, is that in these places the majority of the people spend their free time: these are the areas in which people live their social experience, where people meet to chat and discuss.”
Jeremy Rifkin, The Age of Access: The New Culture of Hy-percapitalism, New York, Tarcher, 2000, pp. 32, 33-34.

Local library is an interface
“The limits of space becomes switching, the radi-cal separation becomes necessary step, passage of a constant and incessant exchange, transfer between two environments, two substances”.
Paul Virilio, L’espace critique, Parigi, Christian Bourgois Edi-teur, 1984, p. 14.
