NOTRE DAME OF MT. CARMEL, CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ Our Parish Mission Statement We are a welcoming Catholic Christian community alive in the faith! Through Baptism, we are called to become the heart, the hands and the voice of Jesus. We do this through Eucharist, liturgical celebrations, prayer, and nurturing parish ministries, “That in all things God may be glorified.” (Rule of St. Benedict)

Message of thanks from the Pastor:

Peace is Jesus' farewell gift to us. Peace is the greeting of our risen Jesus to his apostles. That shalom includes inner harmony, wholeness, and joy. That peace of the Holy Spirit gives us the inner strength to go forward to whatever mission

our dear Lord invites us to undertake in His name.

Love, Father Jude

SEVENTH SUNDAY OF EASTER

Proclaim the Gospel

Today we celebrate one of the tenets of our creed: that the Lord ascended into heaven. From Mark’s Gospel we hear the final words Jesus spoke to his disciples shortly before he ascended into heaven. Those were words of commissioning, no less real for us today than they were to the disciples then.

We are called to “proclaim the gospel to every creature.” For the vast majority of us, this means that we proclaim the gospel by

the witness of our everyday lives. Treating others with dignity and respect, providing for those less fortunate than ourselves, being good stewards of the many gifts showered on us, coming together as God’s family in worship and praise - these are all signs that the gospel has taken root in our lives.

JOIN US AT THE HANOVER TOWNSHIP MEMORIAL DAY PARADE

Join our parish family at this year's Hanover Twp. Memorial Day celebration, Monday, May 25, 2015, whether marching in the parade or offering support from spectator sidelines! The lineup begins at 9am on E. Fairchild Place, and the parade starts promptly at 9:30am. Markers will be on E. Fairchild indicating

our place in the line. The march ends at American Legion (13 Legion Place), where a ceremony will take place with refreshments following. Join us on this march to honor our veterans and fallen heroes!

Transportation will be available back to Whippany Park High School at the end of the parade. For more information, contact Maria Caivano, Parish Secretary, at 973-538-1358, ext. 100.

SAVE THE DATE: Father Jude Farewell Mass

Although it will not technically be the “last” Mass he celebrates at Notre Dame, our 12:15pm Mass on Sunday, June 14, 2015 has been designated as a celebration of Father Jude’s farewell to our parish family, and our loving farewell to him. Please join us as we gather round the Eucharistic table with one who has served us so unselfishly, wisely, and with such love these past 18 years. A light reception in the Parish Hall will follow the Mass.

WOMEN'S GUIDED MEDITATION

Please join us for an opportunity to refresh your spirit and strengthen your faith. Our next gathering will take

place Wednesday, May 20, 7:30-8:30pm in our Resource Room. Bring a friend!

GUATEMALA OUTREACH 2015 Building Eight Homes this August!

With our parish support and jointly with the From Houses to Homes organization, 25 disciples from our parish spent a week in Guatemala last August and built 4 homes for 4 very deserving families in

one of the poorest areas in Guatemala. This year, we will be sending 40 disciples in a span of two weeks in August who will be building 8 homes! What an amazing blessing!

Can you help?

The cost per volunteer amounts to approximately $1,100 and includes a $500 donation per volunteer to FHTH, to help cover the cost of building materials for the homes. If you would like to make a donation to support our Guatemala Outreach Mission 2015, please send your donation (check made out to Notre Dame of Mt. Carmel Church with “Guatemala Outreach” noted on the memo section of your check) to our parish office, attention, Cristina Folan. Any amount will be an amazing blessing in helping our parish fulfill this outreach mission!

To find out more about our Guatemala Outreach ministry, please visit our website at www.ndcarmel.com (click on Ministries and select Guatemala Outreach). To learn more about From Houses to Homes, please visit www.fromhousestohomes.org.

SENIOR LUNCHEON REMINDER! Tomorrow, Monday, May 18 following our 12:10pm Mass.

IS SOMEONE'S DRINKING CAUSING YOU CONCERN?

Come join the Al-Anon group here at Notre Dame. Meetings are held every Thursday, 8:30-9:30pm, in Rm. 112. At meetings, friends and family members of problem drinkers share their experiences and learn

how to apply the principles of the Al-Anon program to their individual situations. Younger family members and friends attend Alateen (http://al-anon.org/for-alateen) meetings. Newcomers to Al-Anon are often interested in learning from members whose personal situations most closely resemble theirs. After attending Al-Anon meetings, they begin to understand how much they have in common with everyone affected by someone else's drinking, regardless of the specific details of their personal situation. Participants learn that they are not alone in the problems they face, and that they have choices that lead to greater peace of mind, whether the drinker continues to drink or not.
