She was a stalwart worshipper during my tenure here. What made her so visible was that she only missed church when she was ill. She told me that she always enjoyed worshipping with her God and with her church family, whether in favorable or unfavorable weather. May she rest in love of our Almighty Father. We also feel the pain of our members who have lost their fathers – Linda Coffee (Tony Sohn) and Emilie Munsch (Paul Nichols) – as one family’s sadness is the sadness of us all. May God’s peace rest upon their families, and with their circle of friends as well. When Jeremiah understood that God wanted him, he told God that he felt too young to serve: “I am just a boy.” The boy felt his youthfulness and immaturity, but God could see a mature, faithful, and trustworthy man. God created this man and gave him special talents, equipping him to be a favorable mouthpiece of his mission. God also consecrated Jeremiah by touching his lips, so his words could reach and convert the hearts of those who heard the message. God calls those who feel unqualified and qualifies them. Again and again in the Bible, the message of transformation is mysteriously hidden to God’s favorable ones. We need our teenagers to become successful and fruitful when they grow up. At what age is a person “mature enough” to be God’s leading hand nowadays? I often refer to this thought, so that we are mindful of the potential, and the need, for discipleship at any age. I realized my own conviction much later than Jeremiah did. The calling was persistent, but somehow I managed to delay as often as I could, until tragedy hit; then I shall know him when the prints of his love was written all over me. These days we are fascinated by what modern technology offers us; but do we know what plan GOD offers us? One thing to consider is that we can trust in God’s love for us. Jeremiah once rejected what was offered, but eventually he was transformed through his relationship with God. He was touched by God empowering him, teaching him what to say and what to do. As Christians we are called and empowered by God’s grace to do Piety’s work in “walking the talk” to initiate the love of God in others, and to mediate for those who haven’t yet acknowledged the love of God. We are the vessels of hope, and no matter what storms hit us, we remain in service of the mighty power of God. We are the Jeremiahs of our era, called to uplift others and to show the love of God. Happy September, with the grace and mercy of God abounding! Shalom, Pastor Iunisi Tovo

FROM MEMBERSHIP TO DISCIPLESHIP

Do we know what God has planned for us?

Before you were formed in your mother’s womb, I knew you!” – Jeremiah 1:5

I am so taken by the music of Fannie Crosby – “Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus our blessed Redeemer!” It is always uplifting to hear the testimony in “I Shall Know Him” – “I shall know Him by the prints on His hands.” It is with great privilege that we have reached the ninth month of the year. We have had many challenges during the year, and many joys as well. It is with great sadness that I share news of the passing of our beloved church member Ruth Ayers.
