3. INNOVATIONS IN CURRICULAR DESIGN AND TRANSACTION:

From the inception of college in ambits of Bharati Vidyapeeth Deemed University,

faculty of Engineering and Technology has revised course structure and syllabus in

2004 and 2007.

In 2007 course, unit test system has been introduced for the continuous assessment of

performance of students.

In-plant training of six weeks of all students has been made as integrated part of course

curriculum. In this in-plant training students have to work in the industry for six weeks

after their 6th

semester and resumes rest of the academics in subsequent semester.

This has made engineering students aware about practical knowledge, latest technology

implemented in the market, work culture of industry and made his/her horizon wider

and understand theory in a better manner.

Students were given opportunity to work on ongoing research projects as well as the

projects sponsored by industry.

34. Activities of Guidance and Counseling Cell:

At the departmental level, each class is appointed with a guardian faculty member (G. F. M.).

GFM collects all the information of the students of the concerned class about the attendance of

the student in various subjects, the performance of the students in various examinations

conducted by the college and other personal details. He also helps the students personally by

counselling the students in their personal and academic problems. He also interacts with the

parents of the students. He informs the parents about the attendance and performance of the

students. He conducts the meeting of the students to discuss about the complaints and the

difficulties of the students and conveys this to the HOD. HOD of each department conducts

meeting of students of each class once in a month and try to solve the problems faced by the

students.

The guidance to the weak students is been given by our department .Special attention is given to

the career counselling of the students, where students queries were solved by the senior staff

members of the department. A separate register is maintained for the same. A special slot in the

timetablewas given for activities related to this cell .The training and placement department

arranges some seminar for the students in the same slot. A GFM (guardian faculty member) was

appointed for each class to enhance the interaction of the student - staff relation and to find out

the weaknesses in the class, to overcome the barriers in the success of department‟s products. In

addition to this, five student leaders were appointed from each class each leader may have 10-12

students under him. This was done in order to increase the rate of problem finding and problem

evaluation. Students have to convey their problems to their leader and leader will immediately

convey it to the GFM of that particular class. GFM in consultation with the cell and HOD will

solve the problem. Vice –versa. If GFM have to pass some immediate notice to the students, they

will pass it to leaders and leaders have to convey to the students under his group. The seminar

called Footsteps of passed alumni‟s were arranged in order to give guidance for future job

selection, chemical engineering and future aspects etc. in addition to last year special attention

was given to female student for any genuine reason by appointing a ladies staff member from the

department . Placement department of the college has organized seminar for facing interviews.

A special guidance and counselling cell called TIME was arranged at college level by Training

and placement department .Under these cell seminars were organized in the department on

various subjects .One staff member from the department is appointed to look after these

activities.

On-the- job training: Apart from syllabus students are taken to sites in order to make

them aware with practical aspects in Civil Engineering. During vacation, students get

opportunity to work with well-established construction companies through which they are

benefited. Few of companies are DLF India Ltd, L&T Ltd.

Curriculum development: Being a university established under the section (3) of UGC

act 1956; the syllabus can be revised. To keep pace with the requirements of the industry,

experts from industry, other universities and engineering colleges are invited to

participate in curriculum development.

Students counselling: A faculty member from the Department is made in-charge of the

class and is designated as Guardian Faculty Member. The Guardian Faculty Member

helps the students to solve personal and academic issues. Head of the department visits

the classes to understand and solve the difficulties of the students. Regular feedback is

Participation in Seminars & Conferences: Staff members are encouraged to attend the

seminars & conferences & permitted to present the research papers, which encourages

them to conduct the research activity. The total number of staff member participated in

seminar and conference is 7.

Guest Lectures: Experts from industry & research organization are invited to deliver the

lectures on various topics related to civil engineering. In this year two expert lectures

have been arranged.

Department Library: Thirty six books, one proceeding and donated to department

library on various topics related to Civil Engineering.

R&D Proposals: The faculty of department routinely submits research proposals to

AICTE, DST, UGC through which funds may received

OTHERS: The Institute has separate computer centre and Del-Net facility is made

available to the student and faculty. The Del-Net has connectivity of more than 900

A. Result of survey conducted by any reputed organization or appreciation received by the

college

The August 2010 issue of DATA QUEST, a leading magazine of India has published the results

of joint survey conducted by DATAQUEST-IDC of the India‟s Technical Schools. In this

survey Bharati Vidyapeeth University College of Engineering has been ranked 37th

amongst

the colleges examine across the country. This ranking based on placement, Infrastructure,

Academic Environment, Industry interface and Human Resource response.

B. Institution of Engineers (India) has approved BVUCOE as the centre for conducting practical

and workshops of the students appearing for the AMIE examination. In the months of June &

July 2010, 26 students and in the months of December 2010 and January 2011, 47 students

from all over India have completed their practical and workshops in different departments. Until

date, such 229 students have completed their practical in this institute. Through this activity Rs 2,

19,000/- were received against the practical conducted. Prof. R. N. Patil, Head, Department of

Production Engineering coordinated this activity.

C.BHARATIYAM ’10

To bring forth the best innovations of the finest minds in the country, in the most conducive

milieu, the college organises its annual national level technical event BHARATIYAM, since the

last 25 years. It consists of various technical and cultural events. It is a confluence of numerous

talents and aims to give budding engineers a glimpse of professional excellence. It provides a

unique and common platform for the intellectual development of students by promoting the habit

of inquiry, learning, thinking and creativity, thus encouraging students to portray their talent in

competition with their peers from all parts of the nation through a series of thought provoking

contests.

It serves as a wide platform for students to exhibit a completely different facet to them. It cater to

around 6000 students from 110 engineering colleges spread across the length and breadth of the
