Request for copyrighted excerpts from books and journals to be uploaded

to Blackboard

Under the terms of the CLA Higher Education Comprehensive Licence

This form is for use by staff members wishing to have an excerpt from a book or journal uploaded to Blackboard.

Please complete a separate form for each excerpt. This form applies to requests where the excerpt needs to be

scanned in order to be uploaded and also to requests where the excerpt is already in a digital format. Completed

forms must be submitted to Reprographics with the item to be scanned or details of how to access the digital item

online. In order to be eligible for uploading:

1. The excerpt must constitute no more than 5% or one chapter of a book or no more than 5% or one article of a

journal issue (whichever is greater).

2. Neither you nor anyone else teaching this module must have previously supplied copies of a different excerptfrom the same source material to the students on this module this academic year.

3. The source material must have been published in the UK or in one of the mandated territories listed atwww.cla.co.uk/licences/excluded_works/international.

4. If the excerpt needs scanning the source material must not appear on the excluded works list atwww.cla.co.uk/excluded_works/excluded_categories_works. If the excerpt is already in a digital format (e.g.an e-article) the source material must be published by one of the publishers listed atwww.cla.co.uk/excluded_works/digital.

5. The University must own a copy of the source material or have acquired a copyright-cleared version via LibraryServices. Items belonging to members of staff can only be scanned if no retail copies (new or second-hand)are available for purchase by the University and if it is not possible for Library Services to acquire acopyright-cleared version from the British Library.

6. If the excerpt is to be scanned the University must not already subscribe to or own an electronic version of thesource material. If the University does subscribe to or own an electronic version it is recommended that youinstead provide a hyperlink to the material.
