The life of ddison PinesBook 1: Money, money, money!

Chapter 1: No one told us!

Addie walked to her class with her science textbook, folder, and

notebook. When she entered the room, she sat next to her best friend

Anna. Hey Addie, Anna said. Hey Ann, Addie said back. Oh, class is

starting, Addie said. I cant wait! After class,we have cheerleading. I

heard this year we are getting new uniforms, said Anna.

RING. The bell rang and Mr. Charles came into the room.

Hello everyone, and welcome to the first day of sophomore science

class, he said. HelloMr. Charles, the class replied.

Hey everyone, the cheerleading coach said after science class. And

welcome to the first and unfortunately our last cheerleading session.

What! Anna and Addie both yelled at the same time.Unfortunately,

there have been some budget cuts from the end of the school year

festival, and we arent able to fund cheerleading. All of the other

sports and academic clubs and teams fundraised over the summer, but

no one told us until the school board meeting yesterday. Im so sorry.Wait, maybe we can hold a fundraiser to earn back our money for

travel games and gear,one girl, Kelsey said. Shes right. Itll be hard,

but we can make cheers to do while people are donating, another girl,

Scarlet added.Yeah! four other girls agreed. Girls, I hope you

understand. If we hold the fundraiser now, itll be saving for next

years funding. The saving and saving may take months, even a year, to

save for the full amount. Its not fair for us to have only half of the

year of cheerleading, when the other teams and clubs have the wholeyear. Also, we will have our full fund ready for next year and the other

teams wont, so we will be ahead of the saving schedule. The coach

said. Okay, I understand now. Also, if we want, we can make our money

goal multiple years of saving into one fundraiser. We can call it the

multi-fund! Addies other friend, Jenny said. Great idea, Jennifer,

the coach said. Everybody come to the gym on Saturday. Here are

some passes. They unlock all of the doors in the school, so you caneasily get into the gym, The coach said.

Addies Journal May 12th

What am I going to do????

Ugh, No one bothered to tell my cheerleading squad that all of the other clubsand teams were saving up because we had end of the year festival budget cuts??No one even went to that stupid thing!! The only reason they probably hadbudget cuts was because Mr. Myers, Mr. Berman, Mrs. Seaman, the nurse andPrincipal Davenport ate all of the snacks!!!! Now we have to earn back all of themoney that the teachers, nurse and principal ate!!

This stupid thing is driving me crazy!! Good thing Im awesome at math!

Teachers eat snacks at a festival = Wasted $$

Wasted $$ = stupid fundraisers

Stupid fundraisers = wasted time

Wasted time = Money that we had to work for when the adults wasted it all

Mon- WHY AM I STILL WRITNG THIS DOWN!! No matter what I do, I still

have to help in the fundraiser. I wont say why because Ivementioned it onlysix BILLION times!

Chapter 2, SSSS: stupid, Saturday, saving, sponsor

Addie didnt want it to, but the week passed by terribly fast.

Before she knew it, it was Saturday, and the fundraising meetwas being held in the gym. Anna and Jenny had slept over

Addies house the night before, so her mom took them all to

the school.

I cant believe we have to hold a fundraiser, Jenny saidon

her way to the school. We didnt even spend the money

ourselves, Anna said. I was writing in my journal on Tuesday,and I said that I think some of the teachers, the nurse, and

principal Davenport ate all of the snacks in the school festival,

so thats why we had budget cuts, Addie said. But no one

even went to that stupid thing, Anna said.Thats what I was

thinking! Jenny said. I also wrote that in my journal, Addie

said. All of the girls laughed. Then the car pulled into theparking lot. Anna picked up the pass and held it up to the

scanner. The scanner made a beep sound and unlocked the

doors. Jenny and Addie pushed the double doors open and

headed downstairs towards the gym.

Good, you girls are here, so we can start the meeting, the

coach said. We need to work on ideas for the fundraiser.

Fundraiser, fundraiser, fundraiser! Addie thought. This was

going to be the longest school year ever

Addies journal May 17

Today we had the meeting for the fundraisers in cheerleading. Annathought of selling cookies. Mandy thought of a bake sale. Scarletthought of selling rubber band bracelets in our school colors toeveryone in town. McKenna thought of selling chocolate bars. Luluthought we should make easy-that-looks-like-its-hard portraits andsell them, and Audrey thought of begging our moms and dads formoney.

I think all of them are nice and all, but they have a few flaws:

Anna: cookie sale (cant bake cookies)

Mandy: bake sale (Still cant bake)

Scarlet: rubber band bracelet selling (dont know how to make

anything but a blob)

McKenna: chocolate bar selling (would have to hold a fundraiser tobuy the chocolate bars)

Lulu: portrait selling (where do we find that and the supplies?)

Audrey: begging for money (this is just too desperate)

These ideas are totally useless!!! We will never get the

money! Well never cheer again!!

Chapter 3: I have an Idea!

Addie sat with her head on the desk, half- listening to Mr.

Reeds lecture about the French and Indian war. and the two

Indian tribes sided with both the French and the British, Mr.

Reed continued. Didnt we take the test like a week ago? Addie

thought. Or was it yesterday? Addie couldnt get it out of her

head. She spaced back in when she heard a voice from behind

her. I need Addison Pines, Mr. Reed, Addie heard her name

and didnt need to turn around to find out who the voicebelonged to. What does she want with me again? Addie turned

around to find her cheerleading coach, Mrs. Cambria standing

by the door. Addison? Mrs. Cambria needs you, Mr. Reeds

squeaky voice called at her. Um, okay, Addie yawned, then

followed Mrs. Cambria into the hall.

You needed me? Addie said, with a bit of attitude. Weneed you down in the cafeteria. Everyone is down there with

us. We are going to think about fundraising ideas. I am

guessing you thought about some fundraising ideas? Not

really Addie thought in her mind. Kind of, she said right

after her comment. Good, Mrs. Cambria said. They stopped

talking when they got to the double-doors. Addie sat downnext to Jenny and Anna. Hey, Jenny whispered to Addie as

she sat down. Hey, Addie whispered back. Okay, girls, Mrs.

Cambria said. We all loved your fundraising ideas, but the

staff didnt find them usable

Whats that supposed to mean? Anna whispered to Jennyand Addie. Addie thought hard in her head about things to do.

Is the begging still an option? What about the bake sale?

Addie went through the back of her mind.

Uncle Lane, When I was in high school, the football team had budget

cuts. We thought about getting the money back, and decided to hold a-

Talent show, Addie whispered to herself. What was that?

Mrs. Cambria asked Addie. Um, I said, a talent show. We

should hold a talent show. Well, Mrs. Cambria said. Why,

what a wonderful idea, Addison! Well hold a talent show, and

people will donate online and at the fundraiser for the

contestants. No guess, the rich and bragging Clarissa added

in: My idea was way better than that. But sorry, Pines!

No one is going to pay to look at your face, Clarissa, or listento your bragging all day! Lillian added. My Aunt Brenna andUncle Nicholas did, Clarissa said. Were they forcedto? Claire added, also.Girls! Mrs. Cambria yelled. We are trying to listen to whatAddison is trying to say. Now, go ahead, Addie.Well, I was thinking, we hold a talent show, she continued.

Where are we going to find a stage, Pines? Clarissa snapped.

My moms friend owns an auditorium. Maybe my mom can get

her friend to let us rent the place for free, Jenny said,

hopefully. Good thinking. Im glad we are agreeing and

thinking positive, Mrs. Cambria said. Well, thanks, Mrs.

Cambria, Mandy said. Well think about our topic again

tomorrow, girls. See you tomorrow. Mrs. Cambria said as she

went through the door. Way to go, Add. Addison thought to

herself while she walked back to Mr. Reeds classroom.

Addies journal May 19th

Hey, remember all of that: Ugh, I hate this fundraisingand Whydo I even have to help? Well I totally take it back!! I think back a

little bit, and it totally pays off!! A talent show why didnt I thinkof that earlier? We couldve already had our idea set, and I come and

think of it now. Whats wrong with me?? Well at least I actually

thought of it before May 30th. At the meet on Saturday, Mrs.Cambria said that if we dont get an idea by the 30th, we would have

to save up during next years summer. So today I called everyone and

our coach to come to my house on Friday and pick out jobs. Thisactually wont be as bad as I thought! Plus, Mrs. Cambria said that Ican be in charge of picking jobs and managing the money (and I can

yell at Clarissa to stop bragging whenever I want!). This will be so fun!

Chapter 4: Addie in charge

Everyone on the cheerleading team crowded in Addies den

Friday afternoon. After a few minutes of arriving, Addie

stood in front of everyone with a clipboard in her hand. It

slowly silenced as she clicked her pen and started explaining.

Hey everyone. Thanks for coming to my house on a lovely

Friday like this one, Addie started. I am going to assign jobs.

Anna and Audrey, you are going to sell tickets. Go to almost

every park, supermarket, and corner store in town and get

some people to buy tickets.How much for every ticket? Audrey asked. Any amount

from $3- $10. But not too much,Addie replied.

-And McKenna and Lulu, you make and put up posters on the

billboards and stamp posts in town. Call it the Troy High multi-

fund, Addie explained. You guys will need to figure out

prices with Anna and Audrey. We dont want people rioting

from rip- offs, Addie said.

McKenna and Lulu scooted over to Anna and Audrey to talk

about prices. Next, Scarlet, Lillian, and Claire, you guys are

very good at rhyming. I would like you to make as many new

cheers as you can. Make them confident, but still make themgood enough so itll make people want to donate for us. Your

job is very important. It will be at the end for our finally,

Mandy and Clarissa, your job is the most important. Make

flyers about auditions for the talent show and mail them out

to everyone in town. Just print about 100 out and put them in

every mailbox. I also need you to hold the auditions. I would

suggestion you hold them at Clarissas auditorium room in her

house. Thanks guys. Lets do this and meet at my house after

school every Tuesday. Thanks everyone. I will see you guys on

Tuesday, and good luck! Addie said as everyone left the den.

A shadow came upon Addie. She turned around and saw coach

Cambria. Hey coach. That turned out well, didnt it? Addie

said. I really mean it. You were a very good leader. If you can

keep this up until we reach our goal, I think I might consider

making you new head captain cheerleader, Mrs. Cambria said.

You mean it, coach? Addie replied. I really mean it, Addison.

You figured out every job so no one would be doing just

goofing off, and you didnt goof around doing it. Plus, you

presented your information beautifully. I am almost certain of

it, Mrs. Cambria said as she walked out of the den.

Addies journal May 24th

Did you hear that? Head cheerleading, head cheerleading, headcheerleader!! This will be so awesome. When I told my family atdinner yesterday, they were so proud of me they took me to the store

and I got some brand new pen colors! Lookat this color, or this one,this one is my favorite. Well anyways, I got the new pens, and myparents gave me a new phone! They said that if I can take the

cheerleading sponsor seriously, I can take the phone seriously, and useit responsibly. My new phone can call text take pictures, photos,sound recordings, and so many other things. Its called the me-phone 4s. It is touch screen, and awesome. Clarissa THOUGHT shehad the best phone in school, but she only had the me- phone 3s. Icant wait to show my friends. I cant wait for tomorrow!!

Addie walked down the hallway, looking for her friends, Anna

and Jenny. Then two shadows appeared behind her. She

turned around and found her two friends Jenny and Anna

behind her. Hey, Jenny said to Addie. Hey guys. You wont

believe what my parents did, Addie started. What? Anna

asked. Addie reached into her backpack and pulled out her

me- phone. You got a me- phone! Anna said. Yep, Addie

said. That is so cool! Jenny said. Not as cool as my new me-

phone 4! Clarissa yelled in between the crowd. I dont know

what it is, but it isnt better than my me-phone. Did I mention

it is the me- phone 4? Clarissa bragged. Clarissa, sorry to

rain on your bragging parade, but I have the me- phone 4s.

Not the me- phone 4, Addie snapped back. You have a me-

phone? You have a better phone than me? Well, Id like to see

it. Bring it in tomorrow, and well see your me- phone, Clarissa

hissed. I n fact, I have it today, Addie said, showing Clarissa

her me- phone. Wow, Clarissa said, then ran away.

Wow, that was nice, Anna said. Fun too, Jenny added.Well, Id love to chat about thatexplosion, but I have science

class. See you guys later, Addie said as she walked away to

Mr. Charles classroom.

And everyone can start their project tonight if they like. Its

due in a week, Mr. Charles said as everyone left the

classroom.
