Initially they did not recognize him. The apostles, disciples, saintly women and followers had an obvious difficulty in recognizing a risen Christ. Surely there were several factors that contributed to this blindness: disbelief after witnessing the horror of the crucifixion, the reality of having a resurrected body or the lack of vision to continue seeing the resurrection with the eyes of the body and not with the eyes of the faith. Mary Magdalene did not recognize him in the garden, the disciples who went to Emmaus did not recognize him and those disciples did not recognize him at the foot of the Sea of Galilee. In subsequent readings we see what it implies to see it: fulfilling its commandments. Do we want to see him? Let's love God and our neighbor. It is to live in the truth of the children of God knowing him in "the breaking of bread", the Eucharist, in those who walk with you, the neighbor, and see him in every work or word that comes out of our hands and our mouths. But, how to see and recognize it today? The answer lies particularly in the meeting of the apostles in the place where they had hidden themselves out of fear and still showed traces of disbelief at the thought that he was a ghost. Jesus, both yesterday and today, acquires concrete manifestations. We have to see it in our Eucharistic celebrations and in its real presence in the tabernacle. This begins with the breaking of the bread and when that Eucharistic encounter takes place, starting and receiving "bread from heaven", food for the eternal life of men and women. But that's just the beginning. The Eucharistic encounter permeates all facets of creation and human behavior. It is to see it in everything and in everyone. Hence, it is necessary to get rid of attitudes and expressions that simply demonize the neighbor as "all women are equal", "all black people are violent", or "all priests are corrupt" . If we truly know Christ, we can see it in others. It is to see Christ in every woman, especially in those who suffer and want to prosper. Seeing Christ implies recognizing him in our African-American brothers who to this day struggle to maintain their dignity and be treated like any American citizen. And certainly to see Christ involves recognizing the number of priests who have visited our sick for two thousand years, presided over our Eucharist, organized Bible study groups or pastoral action of social justice that have given comfort to those who have lost a loved one and enlightenment to those in need of spiritual direction, those priests of whom the media does not speak.

Inicialmente no lo reconocieron. Los apóstoles, los discípulos, las mujeres santas y los seguidores tuvieron una dificultad evidente en reconocer a un Cristo resucitado. Seguramente fueron varios los factores que contribuyeron a esta ceguera: incredulidad después de presenciar el horror de la crucifixión, la realidad de tener un cuerpo resucitado o la falta de visión al continuar viendo la resurrección con los ojos del cuerpo y no con los ojos de la fe. No lo reconoció María Magdalena en el huerto, no lo reconocieron los discípulos que iban hacia Emaús y no lo reconocieron aquellos discípulos al pie del mar de Galilea. En subsiguientes lecturas vemos lo que implica el verlo: cumpliendo sus mandamientos. ¿Queremos verle? Amemos a Dios y a nuestro prójimo. Es vivir en la verdad de los hijos de Dios conociéndolo en “la fracción del pan”, la Eucaristía, en los que caminan contigo, el prójimo, y verlo en cada obra o palabra que salga de nuestras manos y de nuestras bocas.

Pero, ¿Cómo verlo y reconocerlo hoy en día? La respuesta yace particularmente en el encuentro de los apóstoles en el lugar donde se habían escondido por temor y todavía presentaban vestigios de incredulidad al pensar que él era un

fantasma. Jesús, tanto ayer como hoy, adquiere manifestaciones concretas. Tenemos que verlo en nuestras celebraciones Eucarísticas y en su presencia real en el sagrario Esto comienza al partir el pan y cuando se lleva a cabo ese encuentro Eucarístico, partiendo y recibiendo “el pan del cielo”, alimento para la vida eterna de los hombres y de las mujeres. Pero eso es solo el principio. El encuentro eucarístico permea todas las facetas de la creación y del comportamiento humano. Es verlo en todo y en todos. De ahí que es necesario deshacernos de actitudes y expresiones que simplemente

demonizan al prójimo como “todas las mujeres son iguales”, “todas las personas de piel negra son violentas”, o “todos los sacerdotes son corruptos”. Si verdaderamente conocemos a

Cristo lo podemos ver en los demás. Es ver a Cristo en toda mujer, especialmente en aquellas que sufren y quieren prosperar. Ver a Cristo implica reconocerlo en nuestros hermanos afroamericanos que hasta el día de hoy luchan por mantener su dignidad y ser tratados como cualquier ciudadano americano. Y ciertamente ver a Cristo implica en reconocer la cantidad de sacerdotes que por dos mil años han visitado a nuestros enfermos, presidido sobre nuestras Eucaristías, organizado grupos de estudio bíblico o acción pastoral de justicia social que han dado consuelo a quienes han perdido un ser querido e iluminación a los necesitados de dirección espiritual, aquellos sacerdotes de los cuales no hablan los medios de comunicación.

The Women’s Center Bulletin Announcement for April, 2018

Pregnant women in difficult situations often find themselves feeling confused, under pressure and alone. At The Women’s Center our counselors help them through friendship, counseling, and material assistance. We have saved over 39,000 women and their babies from the horrible consequences of abortion. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: substitute and on-call (flexible hours are available); to sort donated items and assist clients in our Family Room; help with mailings and baby bottle projects; bi-lingual who are conversational in Spanish to help in special areas; male volunteers to assist with baby furniture donations; receptionist Thursday or Friday morning and occasionally Saturday at our Evergreen Park office. For more info on these volunteer roles, call us at 708-320-4066. If you wish to offer your time and talent, volunteers are needed to sell flowers after Masses for our annual sale on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12th and 13th, either at your parish or at a parish other than your own. Honor your mother by helping on behalf of mothers in crisis pregnancies. To volunteer for the flower sale, please contact us at 773-794-1313.

Al Centro Para La Mujer nuestras consejeras les ayudan a estas mujeres por medio de la amistad, consejería y asistencia material. He-mos salvado más de 39,000 mujeres y sus bebés de las consecuencias horribles del aborto. ¡SE NECESITAN VOLUNTARIOS!: substitutos y voluntarios de guardia (hay horarios flexibles): para clasificar artícu-los donados y asistir a clientes en nuestro Cuarto Familia; ayudar con correos masivos y proyectos de biberones para bebés (biberones para monedas extras).; bilingües que pueden conversar en español para ayudar con proyectos especiales; volunta-rios (hombres) para ayudarnos a transportar donaciones de muebles para bebés; recepcionista los jueves o los viernes por la mañana y de vez en cuando los sábados en nuestra oficina en Evergreen Park. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS NOTICIAS DEL CATECISMO The Lord's Peace be with you! One aspect our instructors make an effort to incorporate into their lesson plans is the Seven Themes of Catholic Social Teaching. The Church’s has a long and rich tradition of sharing its wisdom about building a just society and living lives of holiness amidst the challenges of modern society. The seven themes of Catholic social teaching are: • Life and Dignity of the Human Person • Call to Family, Community, and Participation • Rights and Responsibilities • Option for the Poor and Vulnerable • The Dignity of Work and the Rights of Workers • Solidarity The Church has long advocated for the poor and marginalized in society by providing for their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. We all can make a greater effort to identify what programs currently exist, and volunteer our time, talent, and treasure to assist the Church in carrying out the seven corporal works of mercy with those of our neighbors most in need. This is one concrete way in which we the Church founded by Christ show God's solidarity with the poor and disenfranchised living among us. May God richly bless you! Jose M. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every Wednesday in the Thiele Center from 10am to noon. This group knits and crochets prayer shawls while praying individually and as a group for the recipient of each shawl. These shawls

represent a visible symbol of our prayers and presence. Shawls have been given to those facing challenging times, illness or to celebrate a special moment to bring the comfort and warmth of God’s love and healing. For more information on how to request a prayer shawl please contact the parish office, 773-278-4808. El Ministerio Mantas de Oración se reúne todos los miércoles en el Centro Pastoral de 10am a medio día. Este grupo hace mantas de oración hechos de tejido o de ganchillo mientras rezan individualmente y como grupo para que el receptor de cada manta. Estas mantas representan un símbolo visible de nuestras oraciones y presencia. Las mantas se han dado a aquellos que enfrentan tiempos difíciles, enfermedad o para celebrar un momento especial para llevar el apoyo y la calidez del amor de Dios y la sanación.
