From the Headmaster
Mr Gareth Leechman
Assessment plays an important role in the education of our students. If assessment is done
properly it will enable students and teachers to identify how they have grown, what they have
learnt and areas which still need development. At Arndell Anglican College we continue to
work hard at ensuring that our assessment practices facilitate these aims. If high quality
assessment tasks are created they not only enable our students to display their knowledge
and skills, but they also challenge them and extend their capabilities.
Over the past two weeks our students across the College have been involved in a variety of
assessments. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 have been involved in NAPLAN testing and I
was very pleased with the way the students approached these national based assessments.
I have no doubt that our students did their best and we will await the results to see how they
have performed. In the high school Years 7 – 11 have been involved in their mid-year
examinations and again I was extremely impressed with the way the vast majority of the
students approached the examination period. Over the past eight years we have witnessed
a significant change in the learning culture within the College and I am very pleased to see
this is continuing.
Finally I would also like to highlight to the College Community the high school musical, Little
Shop of Horrors, which will be performed later in the term. Tickets are on sale, so I
encourage people to purchase their tickets quickly, there are only three performances and it
would be shame if you missed out.
From the Head of Junior School Rev. Keith Peterson
On behalf of the Junior School, this is a reminder that Fundraising boxes of chocolates, raffle
tickets etc are not to be brought to school and sold by Junior School students. Your support
with this advice is greatly appreciated.

Moses’ Weakness?
The God we believe in is an incredibly powerful God. So often as I look around at our world
I see God pushed into the background. Even as I look at the movies produced that are
meant to portray a Biblical story the power of God is not the main story. The recounts of
the story of the Exodus is one such example. Whether it be Charlton Heston: strong;
rugged; powerful, or modern day examples such as the growing awareness of personal
power seen in the cartoon movie, Prince of Egypt. In each case God is pushed into the
background.
In reality, Moses is a scared, weak, stuttering character who questions God at many points
in the story. Moses may be seen to perform wondrous deeds but the real character is so weak that he tries to find
ways to avoid God’s work. He has little eloquence himself, a stuttering person who you would rarely ask to give a
public presentation. He is scared of Pharaoh, scared of the Egyptians, scared of God’s people, even scared of a
snake!
However, in Moses’ weakness and fear God’s powerful work is displayed. His powerful work to rescue his people
from the tyrant, Pharaoh. In much the same way, Jesus rescues us from the power of death. Defeating an enemy
even worse than Pharaoh and bringing a new life for all those who trust in him.
This term in Chapel at Arndell we will be exploring these ideas as we work through God’s word in Exodus.
