Pony Club is

growing in numbers

and activities with

something for

everyone including

friends, hacks,

lessons, camp,

17 members headed to the Eventing

Championships in Tattersalls in August

of this year which in itself was enough

to put the Islands on the map but when

Ruairi Craven came home having come

first in the Championship and the Red

Mills League it certainly made the club

proud

The Irish National Mounted games

Championships were held over three

days in Barnadown for the third year in a

The Islands had a 100%

success rate this year with

all Pony Club Tests.

Groups were formed for

each test and provided

with an instructor to work

with them in the weeks /

months leading up to the

test, including lessons in

and out of the saddle.

Rallies were well attended

with 39 kids on Friday

nights during the months

of May.

RALLIES & LESSONS

Show Jumping has not

been the strongest aspect

of the club over the last

number of years however

this year following

intensive Show Jumping

lessons in Barnadown we

sent 3 Robbie Bailey

Teams (Junior) and 1 John

Ledingham team

(Intermediate), all did

extremely well with one of

the Robbie Bailey Teams

(Glen Carton, Sarah

Dunne, Lucia Merrigan &

Sebastian Pim) coming 4th

but unfortunately the first

3 teams qualified for the

championship….look out

2014!!

17 members headed to

the Eventing

Championships in

Tattersalls in August of

this year which in itself

was enough to put the

Islands on the map but

when Ruairi Craven

came home having

come first in the

Championship and the

Red Mills League it

certainly made the club

Tethrathlon is a sport of

four disciplines ;

Swimming, Running,

Shooting & Cross

Country. Well done to all

involved to getting the

Tethrathlon up and

running once again, in

particular Hilary Johnson

is a Triathlon made up

of Swimming, Running

and Cross Country.

Two teams and

respective families

headed to Cork for the

weekend, despite one

family getting lost and

spending the Friday

night in their lorry at a

petrol station and the

Ballycanew we held a One

Day Event purely for our

youngest members. Yet

again a wonderful day was

had by all and yet again we

were blessed by the

weather. The day was

perfect for the younger

members as they were

given all the time and

attention they needed for

what was their first One

Day Event for many

Founded in 1956, The Island Hunt Branch of the Irish Pony Club

aims to offer a range of equestrian activities to cater both for the

competitive and non-competitive rider with emphasis at all times

on good sportsmanship and fair play.

A first but definitely not a

last……. A two day camp

which took place during

the Halloween break.

Activities included

coaching from Mark

Devitt, coach of the U17

Irish MGA Team who are

the 2013 Europeon

Champions. Other

Activities: Swimming,

Tennis, Table Tennis, Air

Hockey, Soccer Table &

Board games

The year started with

McGuires Annual Charity

Ride which raised €248 for

Gorey Hospice. Over 30

members enjoyed their

adventure through

McGuires farm land and

cross country, river and

ditches. A wonderful way

to finish the holiday season

over tea, coffee and a chat

in the barn

This years Club Derby

& BBQ was hosted by

Floods, Enniscorthy

and organised by Helen

D’Eathe as always a

great way to get the

summer going! For the

past two years it has

proved to be a very

sociable day followed

by a family BBQ in the

evening. This year’s

Derby was in aid of the

Tethrathlon which

raised over €700. The

club now have enough

funds to purchase two

rifles and get the

Islands back into the

Tethrathlon competition

after many years

DERBY DAY

There were 3 Mini Midi

unfortunately the

Christmas one had to be

cancelled due to bad

not to be the trend for

2013. Mid Term Mini

Midi Maxi in Barnadown

proved a great success as

was the Easter one

organised by Alice Bowler

and hosted by Floods,

Enniscorthy in aid of Street

Children of Bucharest

raising €435

BEACH RIDE

Family Social Night took

place in Enniscorthy

Rugby Club in the form of

a Table Quiz was a great

opportunity for all to thank

John Craven & Ruth

Sommerville for their

years at the helm of the

Islands. €700 was raised

for Our Lady of Fatima

Special School, Wexford

TABLE QUIZ

Wexford is full of

spectacular beaches and

you can-not beat the taste

of salt air and freedom of

the open beach and

exploring the sand dunes

on a fresh spring day. The

excitement in the air was

palpable and the day was

not for the faint hearted.

….but fun was had by all.
