As one of the world’s largest Defence companies, Thales’s role is to support the armed forces in accomplishing their missions in the traditional defence environments – air, land, sea and space – and meet the growing demand from governments for integration of defence and security forces.

Successfully supporting air operations for more than 30 years, for customers such as the UK MoD, Thales has developed and refined AirScape to help customers make better informed decisions.

Thales AirScape provides a secure and dynamic information management hub for air operations enabling multiple user connectivity and interoperability. Automatic integration of live aeronautical, tasking and intelligence feeds with static environment data delivers accurate mission critical data and threat alerts to users enabling them to share a common operational picture wherever they are.

Supporting the entire Critical Decision ChainGovernments and military commanders around the world face an increasingly complex set of challenges in running successful multi-force air operations in deployed environments. Joint operations are often conducted by coalition forces where access to shared situational awareness and interoperability are vital for safer and more effective missions. The additional complexity of operations performed within a civilian environment, and the future Single European Sky programme, increase the need for secure and reliable transfer of information.

With reduced defence budgets, armed forces are considering how they can operate more efficiently to reduce costs and maximise effectiveness. The effective use of assets and the management of capabilities are key in this context. The volume of data and rate of information exchange, both between and within forces, has never been greater and also needs to be handled by fewer personnel. All these factors influence the day-to-day effectiveness of critical decision making.

Nations depend on their leaders’ and organisations’ ability to decide and act in a timely fashion and obtain the best outcomes. These decisions are often of critical importance: navy, army and air force commanders, need full, relevant and reliable information to understand the situation and make the right choices. Thales AirScape delivers the secure and dynamic information superiority needed to make such decisions.

Thales AirScape differentiates itself from other information systems by automatically integrating multiple live aeronautical, tasking and intelligence feeds with static environment data to provide a near real-time, dynamic and integrated operational picture on a wide area secure network. Built around a core modular architecture, this proven and flexible system can be customised to meet the needs of individual operational units.

And, as requirements evolve over time, it can be easily upgraded, future-proofing the system and extending its life at low cost. Thales’s solution allows the rapid dissemination of data to main and deployed operating bases on a worldwide network. It is available in medium or long term deployment formats as well as in lightweight man-pack versions for contingency operations.

Safer skiesInforms aircrews, operations and agencies of other flying activity, aerial conflicts and vertical obstructions.

Situational awareness Ensures that the most up-to-date threat, environmental and aeronautical data is available throughout the mission lifecycle, improving survivability.

Greater efficienciesAutomated information handling and alerts supersede the need to handle data manually, reducing the risk of human error and cost.
