YCSD CAREER CONNECTIONS The YCSD Career Connections Team is excited to share a new initiative we have been collaborating on!
Starting next week, all high school students will have the opportunity to attend College Cafes on Tuesdays and Career Cafes on Thursdays, during lunch, weekly.
The time of the cafes will be from 12:00-12:30 P.M. and this will be a virtual experience.
Additional opportunities for our BHS and YRA schools will be provided monthly due to lunch times differing slightly between our 5 high schools. It is important to note that while lunch times differ, the time chosen is the best option for our students to have availability in tuning in, given transition time in between classes, etc. Included in this email are graphics of the Career Café and College Café for next week. Students will be able to access the cafes by clicking on the link below and signing up through bookings. Each week we will share new graphics for updated events!

PSAT: We typically administer the PSAT in October, but due to COVID, YCSD only permitted 11th graders to register to take the PSAT in October. College Board has offered another testing date of January 26, 2021 for us to give the PSAT again. There will be no make-up date. YCSD is offering this date to any student who is interested in taking the PSAT. Students wishing to register will do so by having their parents access Rycor. All of the details are in the email sent out by the SBO on Dec. 2nd. The Basics:

The YCYC has created a Countywide Peer E-Tutoring Program, where students may sign up to tutor others for volunteer hours, and other students may sign up to be tutored if they need help. Tutors and tutees can sign up in all subjects, as well as if students simply need someone to talk to, they can also sign up using this program!! Division Communication Regarding PSAT Testing on January 26th Good morning YCSD families, Each year, the school division administers the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) to 10th grade students at no cost. Students are also able to pay required fees, register and retake the PSAT/NMSQT during their junior year if they so choose to seek eligibility for recognition from the National Merit Scholarship Program.
PSAT/NMSQT Test Dates Testing Date: Tuesday, January 26, 2021 Testing Time: 7:45 a.m. (for BHS, GHS, THS and YHS) OR 8:15 a.m. (for YRA) Test Fee: $17 for students in grades 9, 11 or 12; There is no fee for students in grade 10
All 10th grade students have the opportunity to take the PSATs on January 26th at no cost. For this year only, 10th grade students may also decide to defer their PSAT test, paid for by the division, to the fall of 2021. All 10th grade students should indicate their decision about taking the PSATs in Rycor by Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Students in grades 9, 11 and 12 interested in taking the PSATs in January, can register onRycor, the division’s online form and payment management system. Registration must be completed by Wednesday, January 6, 2021. Registered students will need to arrive at their high school by 7:45 am OR 8:15 a.m. the morning of the test. YCSD mitigation strategies detailed in the division’s Return to School plan will be in place, including the use of face masks, and all students will be expected to complete a Health Screening prior to entering a school. Division Transportation will be provided for those who indicate a need for transportation as part of the registration process in Rycor. Students should bring the following materials with them on testing day: mask, water bottle, snack, sharpened pencils, and an approved calculator. More information about the PSATs can be found in the PSAT Student Guide. Additionally, more information will be sent via email to registered students the week prior to testing. For additional information regarding the PSATs please reach out to your student’s school counselor or the building Assessment and Compliance Coordinator (ACC). Please note that at any time the division may decide to cancel PSAT testing as our priority is your health and safety or due to inclement weather.
