COURSE DESCRIPTIONS AND INSTRUCTORS International Building Code

Wednesday- 2015 IBC Plan Review Thursday This two (2) day course provides a step-by-step approach to performing a complete AM/PM building plan review of a commercial project. The class covers the following portions of

the review: (1) administration, (2) code analysis (i.e. occupancy classification, type of construction, location on the property, allowable areas & heights, etc.), (3) fire & life safety (fire resistance, fire protection, exiting, etc.), (4) structural & special inspections. All attendees will be put into groups and given a sample set of plans and this example will be referenced throughout the class with sample plan review comments included in the notes. The class will conclude with a question & answer session. Attendees are encouraged to bring a copy of the 2015 IBC and an Architectural scale to class.

Wednesday 2017 National Electrical Code Changes AM/PM This course will explain the major changes in the 2017 National Electrical Code; Included

will be the reasons for these changes and a discussion of the substantiations. Review of new articles and sections added to this edition of the NEC and what type of impact they will have on inspectors, designers, and installers. Additional material will cover the TDLR law, rules, and electrical safety NFPA 70E ©. This is basic to intermediate electrical course. TDLR Provider #1018 Course #16264

Thursday Residential Electrical Inspections 2017 NEC, TDLR Law Rules & 70E AM/PM This class shows and discusses temporary poles, rough-in wiring, grounding, bonding,

services, and final inspections with photos of each aspect using the 2017 National Electrical Code. Solar Photovoltaic Systems will be discussed. Additional material will cover the TDLR law, rules, and electrical safety NFPA 70E© for State of Texas electrical license renewal. This is a basic to intermediate electrical course. Wednesday Hazardous Materials and the Fire Inspector AM/PM The 2015 IFC® and IBC® Hazardous Materials Provisions seminar addresses requirements for

buildings utilizing hazardous materials and requiring coordination between the fire and building codes. It reviews the requirements found in Chapters 50 through 67 of the International Fire Code® (IFC®), as well as Chapter 3, and Sections 414 and 415 of the International Building Code® (IBC®).

Thursday 2015 IFC Performing Commercial Fire Plan Reviews AM/PM This course addresses numerous provisions in the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC).

Where the fire code contains requirements applicable to construction, design, operations, storage, use and handling that occur in a special occupancy, but that are not regulated specifically by the 2015 IFC. The course is intended to help Code Enforcement Officials responsible for plan review to identify those areas where plan review will include compliance with the IFC. Activities and discussions will further enhance participant learning.

Wednesday Violators with Mental Issues AM This class will help to assist Code Officers to Identify Zoning and IPMC (International

Property Maintenance Code) regulations for rooming and boarding houses while being aware of potential hazards.

Animal BehaviorThis class will help attendees to be able to identify, understand and respond to certain dog behavior while performing property inspections.

INSTRUCTOR PROFILES

Teresa Adrian Teresa Adrian has been with the City of Irving for 18 years. As the Director of the Code Enforcement Department, she oversees the Property Codes, Board of Health. Prior to joining the City of Irving, she worked in the property management industry for over 15 years in Management, Training, Marketing and Public Relations. She holds multiple ICC certifications, is a licensed Code Officer in the State of Texas and is a Green Belt in Lean Six Sigma. Teresa is an active member of the Building Officials Association of Texas Disaster Response Team and is the current President of the American Association of Code Enforcement.

David Gonzalez David Gonzales is a Manager of the Building & Mechanical Section at the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). Over 14 years with TDLR providing technical expertise for the Architectural Barriers Program. Responsibilities include program management, accessibility investigations/inspections, plan review services, and development/facilitation of the Texas Accessibility Academy.

William Hopple William ‘Bill’ Hopple is a technical instructor for the International Code Council (ICC). He has been a member of the National Fire Protection Association since 1980. He currently serves as a technical committee member of NFPA 72, Chapter 23 – Protected Premises Fire Alarm Systems – CAFAA Principle. He has also been a member of the California Automatic Fire Alarm Association since 1982. Bill has served in most board positions, including Director of Training. He is also a member of the Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA) and the Society of Fire Protection Engineers. Bill has been a California State Fire Marshal “Certified” instructor since 1982 and currently teaches almost every available AFAA Fire Alarm related Class. He has a California State Contractors license and C10 Electrical Contractor license. In addition to ICC, Bill has taught for a variety of National and state associations such as University of Maryland, California State Fire Marshal, Fire Marshal’s Association of North America (FMANA), several ICC chapters throughout the United States.

Gary Jones Retired Chief Electrical Inspector for the City of Fort Worth, TX with over 30 years of service; currently an adjunct instructor for the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI), a past President of the IAEI Texas Chapter and a member of the IAEI Southern Section Codes and Standards Committee; Chairman of the Fort Worth Fire Prevention and Construction Board of Appeals and a licensed Master Electrician; career includes working as a journeyman electrician on residential, commercial, and industrial projects; past owner of an electrical contracting and service company.

Anthony Major Anthony Major is a Code Enforcement Officer, Inspector C, Licensing Division for the Austin Code Department. He also serves on the Austin Code Safety Committee and is currently an instructor for Code Enforcement Association of Texas (C.E.A.T) He has been employed with the City of Austin for 25 years. Prior to working with the Austin Code Department (11 yrs.), He worked for Austin Resource Recovery (14 yrs.), Human Resources Division. It was there that he realized his love for training. Currently he is actively involved and remains enrolled in the Theocratic Ministry School for Public Speaking

Richard Morgan Richard Morgan is the Sr. Energy Codes Manager for the South-central Partnership for Energy Efficiency as a Resource, the Regional Energy Efficiency Organization serving Texas and Oklahoma. In that role Richard is responsible for increasing local energy code adoption and compliance in Texas and Oklahoma. Richard is the SPEER lead on the DOE Energy Codes Field Study for Texas. Prior to joining SPEER Richard was the Green Building and Sustainability Manager for Austin Energy, the municipal electric utility for the City of Austin, TX. Richard has participated in many regional and national green building and energy code working groups and committees including acting as Chair of the Energy Working Group of the ICC Sustainable Building Technology Committee for the development of the first version of the International Green Construction Code.

Frank C. Morris Frank C. Morris, CBO, CEAP, MCP, is a noted speaker who has more than 44 years’ experience in the construction industry as a contractor, building official and consultant. Although he is not a practicing Building Official, Mr. Morris remains current with his CBO, CEAP, MCP and MCEP designations. He is still one of the top certified Building Officials in the United States. He has taught for SBCCI and ICC and also provides consulting services to the construction industry.
