Don’t forget to pay your Residents’ Tax! The City Office is sending out new health insurance cards for the Medical Insurance System for the Elderly Aged 75 or Over

Residents’ Tax (Special Ward Residents’ Tax/Tokyo Metropolitan Residents’ Tax) is a tax paid on income for the previous year (January-De-cember) by all residents, regardless of nationality, to their current city etc. of residence as of January 1.

The second payment installment of the Residents’ Tax is due on August 31 (Fri.). Please remember to pay using the tax payment slip you have been sent. Please note that if your tax payment is late, you will be charged a late fee.

Please either go in person to one of the application offices given above or send the required documents by postal mail to the Child Allowance Subsection. Be sure to clean the gutters and the rainwater pits around your home and do not place potted plants or other objects in gutters and the rainwater pits.

■What to do when heavy rainfall occursRemain indoors as much as possible and do not go near rivers or manholes. Also, in some cases,

wastewater treatment capacity may be exceeded, so keep wastewater from bathtubs and washing machines etc. to a minimum.

■Nerima City lends sandbags free of charge to those who want to use them. Be sure to make preparations ahead of time, as sandbags may not be available on the day heavy rainfall occurs.

■Keep bacteria away!Bacteria from raw meat or fish that is transferred from the hands or cooking utensils to other food

can cause food poisoning. Be sure to always keep your hands and cooking utensils clean.■Don’t multiply bacteria!

Once food is prepared, eat it quickly to prevent bacteria from multiplying. When storing food, place it in the refrigerator as quickly as possible.

■Sterilize!Many bacteria are vulnerable to heat, so be sure to cook food through to the core. It is also effective

to sterilize dishes and cooking utensils etc. with boiling water and/or chlorine bleach.
