Unique translucent porcelain wall tiles with a textile relief

Studio Barbara Vos has designed a unique brand of tiles with beautiful structure and clear detail, known as tex-tiles. The tex-tiles derive their name from the process of pressing fabric or textile into the porcelain. By combining translucent porcelain with the softness and texture of textiles, one of a kind customizable tiles are made. The tiles are suitable for any space, whether it is a sauna, spa, hotel, wellness centre, kitchen or bathroom.

LED back lighting

Subtle lighting can be added behind the tiles which shines through creating warm and detailed pattern. Thinner parts show more light, while thicker parts show less. This gives an extra mesmerizing dimension to the tile by the accentuation of the relief by the light. One can also vary and play with the color and mode of LED-lighting behind the tiling to create a magical atmosphere.

Note: adding LED light is an option, it is not a necessary. Tex-tiles alone are a luxurious and distinctive way of tiling your space.

Porcelain tiles versus traditional earthenware tiles

Normally tiles are made out of earthenware with a layer of glaze. Tex-tiles are made of porcelain. Porcelain has the quality to be water and frost-resistant. Porcelain is often used to make delicate tea cups and other fine tableware.

The surface of this porcelain tile does not need any glazing which makes it very special and different from other tiles. The surface of the tiles are polished which gives them a unique unexpected softness.

Design your wall with Collection nr #01 Rag Time

Collection nr #01 Rag Time consists of three different tiles: a mid tile with textile relief, a corner tile with textile relief and a plain tile. With these three tiles a huge variety of tile layouts can be made.

The corner tile can be rotated in four directions to complete a line. The mid tile can be used to connect the line as a cross section. The plain tile can be used to fill the empty spaces. Your tiling may vary from the abstract to the figurative or just random shapes by only using three different tiles!

With the three tiles from Collection nr #01 Rag Time a huge variety of different tiling

Your own personalized tiles

Tex-tiles have endless possibilities. Studio Barbara Vos can create your own unique, personalized tiles, fitted to the style of your company building or environment of your house. The tiles can be designed to match the look & feel you have envisioned.

Custom designed tiles can be made by providing your own fabric, by choosing a fabric from the samples provided or a special fabric can be made from a structure found in your building. A translation of a brand, logo or family name in the tiles is one of many possibilities.

One can also vary with glazed and unglazed tiles, pigments, sizes, handmade or machine made, all suitable to your style and taste. The possibilities are endless, only limited by your imagination.

Studio Barbara Vos

Studio Barbara Vos is run by Dutch Interior Architect and Product Designer Barbara Vos. She is known for her playful designs and re-use of materials. Barbara Vos is inspired by patterns, repetitions and prints. She likes to design products and interiors for people to let them feel good and happy, she wants to bring a smile to their faces. The studio designs and develops products varying from lighting to ceramics, jewellery, bags and toys,

even complete interiors.

Salone del Mobile Milan

In 2011 Studio Barbara Vos has introduced tex-tiles at the international furniture fair Salone del Mobile in Milan. In 2012, a patch work of a variety of tex-tiles was presented in Milan in the popular Ventura Lambrate area.
