Principal’s Report - Mr Richard Ford

Welcome to the first newsletter of term 3. The students have settled back in well to their

learning routines and are just going from strength to strength.

Currently we have had some maintenance work being carried out throughout the

school. The boys toilets had a collapsed pipe that needed replacing, we have had new

carpet laid in different areas of the school including the library. The library should be

back operational by next week. I would like to say thank you to all the students who

have handled these disruptions well and just got on with learning and enjoying school.

We have had some very exciting news in the last couple of weeks. Our Stage 3 entered

a competition to design the new Badergy’s Creek airport and surrounding businesses

using Minecraft. The students from all the classes made some wonderful small cities that

were future focused and problem solving, each group worked in collaboration. The

students then presented their Aerotropolis’ to each other and voted on the best. From

this our students have made the top 10 finalists. A handful of students will go to Liverpool

on 9th August and present their city to judges from Western Sydney University and could

win a prize of up to $40 000. We wish them all the best and are so proud of all or Stage 3

students who have worked so hard on this.

Doonside festival was held last weekend and our students were one of the first

performers on the day, and the only school. Our choir and dance groups performed

and did an amazing job. They did our school proud and showcased what wonderful

talent we have at school. Thank you to all the parents who were able to get their kids

into school uniform on the weekend and get them to the festival.

On Tuesday our Girl’s rugby league sides played in a gala day. We were supposed to

have 4 sides going but with sickness, injury and some girls not bringing in their notes, we

could only field 2 teams. This meant so that other schools didn’t miss out that our teams

played in 2 competitions each. They did a great job and many girls who had never

played before had a lot of fun and got right into it. The girls showed great sportsmanship

throughout the day and didn’t complain once about how many games they had to

play.

Thank you to everyone who turned up for parent teacher interviews. It is also a great

time for us to see how our students are going, touch base with things that might be

happening at home and at school and to show our students that we are all working

together to help them be the best that they can be. I would also like to thank the hard

working teachers who taught all day and then spent 3 hours in interviews without a

break.

The Infants K-2 sports carnival will be held on Friday 16th August. A note will go home

shortly encouraging students to wear their house colours. The carnival will be held

between 9-11am.

Education week is next week. Our dance group will be performing at Westfield’s Mt

Druitt at 11.40am. With everything that has been going on we have decided to combine

education week and book week to have a big celebration on the day. On Wednesday

21st August we will be holding a book character parade, open classrooms and

showcasing our STEM projects throughout the school. A note will go home soon with all

the details.

As everyone is aware by now we had the very sad news of one of our own, Mrs Sharron

McGeown, passing away on the last Sunday of the holidays. She will be missed by all

that knew her and she will be remembered as someone who was dedicated to our

students and our community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your

support through this time. It is so lovely to see when a community comes together to help

each other out through a time of sadness. From the kind messages for the family, to the

personal offers of support to the teachers, and the patience you have shown when

needing to get things resolved, the staff of Crawford Public School would like to thank

you. I would also like to thank the local schools who sent teachers to support us, and our

wonderful students who welcomed those teachers and showed how great they are.

"Step into Stage One!!

Well Term Two flew by and here we are into Semester Two already!

Stage One students have successfully completed another jam-packed term of

learning and are now half way through the year.

Term 2 saw many exciting events, from Crazy Hair Day, the Featherdale

excursion, NAIDOC Day celebrations, hosting class assemblies, Sports in Schools

and not to mention many many many learning opportunities. Students have

jumped reading levels, extended their sentence writing abilities, solved difficult

mathematical problems, learnt about the water cycle and the list just goes on.

Parents- you should all be proud of the wonderful achievements of your

children.

At the end of Term Two, Semester One reports went home. Please see your

child’s teacher for any clarification needed. Our wonderful teachers always

your first point of call. It was a pleasure to read so many positive points and to

hear how each child’s learning abilities are catered for in their classrooms.

This term is already

off to a busy start.

We have had

Parent Teacher

Interviews, and an

upcoming Athletics

Carnival and not to

mention all students

are straight back

into learning.

Keep smiling and

keep shining! Dream

Believe Achieve!

Stage 2 News This year, Stage Two have been organising an overnight camp for our Year 3 and 4 stu-

dents. Unfortunately, we have not been able to secure appropriate dates this year that

fit within our school calendar and Dubbo zoo’s availability. It was fantastic to see the

amount of interest there was with this camp from our students and parents, as we had

just 80 families who said they would like to attend. As there was such a large interest,

we will keep this in mind next year and hopefully have greater success in organising

dates.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to ask your child’s teacher.

Stage 3 News It has been a great start to Term 3 for Stage 3. We received some great news that our

Minecraft Aerotropolis submission has made it to the top 10!

The work was unbelievable with the resources and the way our students managed their

time. Some videos will be produced and shared through the school Facebook page

etc. later in Term 3 so everyone can see the work.

During Term 3 we will be trialling a High School type timetable on Monday afternoons,

Tuesday afternoons and Thursdays from 11:30am. The idea is to help our students with

the transition to High School and deal with change. So far so good. Our teachers have

really put in a lot of thought and effort into the program which will cover Maths, Sci-

ence, Food Tech, English and Digital Technologies. We’ll organise some photos and up-

dates as we go.

Organisation for camp is coming along nicely. There are still some spots to fill so if you

would like your child to join us for an awesome experience please see any of our Stage

3 teachers.

The next camp payments due at 23rd August & 20th September 2019

Netball Training Clinic

On Monday 29th July our PSSA netball teams were lucky enough to

participate in a Netball Training Clinic run by Emma from Netball NSW. This

was an invaluable experience for our netballers, many of whom have never

played before this season. The training included games that developed skills

including passing, shooting and reacting. It concluded with a game of

netball with Emma coaching from the sideline, developing our player’s

understanding of the rules and teaching them new strategies. Hopefully we

will be able to use these new skills in our remaining PSSA games this term.

All of our Netballers were very enthusiastic and had a great time.

Thank you to Mrs Anamourlis for organising the day.
