Through the week teachers embedded lessons around Aboriginal Culture and on Tuesday Jeanette helped create Boola Boola Birds with classes. On Friday Trent Hill, an Aboriginal story teller came to talk with classes. Thanks Jeanette and Mish for their work around these events. On 2 June we have an assembly and would love families to come along to hear about the work we have been doing to learn about Aboriginal culture and reconciliation. Random Acts of Kindness Congratulations to Alex in LS9 who was awarded this week’s Random Act of Kindness. Alex helped with some Reception students in the yard just because it was the right thing to do. Community Garden Fundraiser
Learning Space 10 has been organising a whole school fundraiser to raise money for the schools Community Garden. Every student in the school will decorate a terra cotta plant pot and then plant a flower. Flower pots will be sent home with students who have ordered and paid for them on Friday Week 8 (18 June). Plant pots are $5.00 each. Payments to purchase your child’s plant pot can be made online via the QKR app or at the front office. Mobile phones and personal devices policy 2021
MOBILE PHONES AND PERSONAL DEVICES POLICY Purpose This policy provides direction to students, staff and families about managing mobile phones and other digital devices that students choose to bring to school. Digital devices include, but are not limited to, smartwatches, tablets or laptops that are not part of a separate Bring Your Own Device arrangement. This policy applies while students are at school, or attending an authorised school activity such as an excursion, during school hours. Mobile phone use for primary school students The department’s position is that primary aged students cannot use their mobile phones and personal devices at school during school hours. The department and the school recognise that there are legitimate reasons for students to bring a mobile phone or personal device to school. This may include:
to ensure their safety while travelling
so that parents can contact them outside of school hours. During the school day students are not permitted to access or use their mobile phones or other personal devices. Students must switch off or mute their devices before storing them at the beginning of the school day. They will not be able to access their device until the end of the school day. Storage of personal devices Students who choose to bring mobile phones or personal devices to school, do so at their own risk. Mobile phones must be switched off or put on silent and stored in the student’s school bag upon entering school grounds and may only be used once they leave the school grounds at the end of the day. If the student does not comply The leadership team in consultation with the teacher will use their professional judgment to determine the appropriate level and response strategy if a student doesn’t comply with this policy. If confiscation is a consequence for non-compliance, the student’s device will be securely stored in the front office which can then be collected at the end of the school day. There may also be consequences in line with the school’s behaviour code and anti-bullying policy, for incidents of misuse of mobile phones and personal digital devices that occur during or out of school hours. These incidents include:
bullying and harassment
transmission of explicit images
photographing, recording or uploading inappropriate content. Some instances of misuse of a mobile phone or other personal device may constitute a criminal offence, in which case they will be reported to the police.

Consider requests for exemptions from the policy from parents on a case-by-case basis. Make sure that approved exemptions are documented and that relevant staff are informed about students’ exemptions. Model appropriate use of mobile phones and support families to understand the importance of promoting safe, responsible and respectful use of mobile phones to their children. School staff Deliver learning opportunities and maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Take steps to minimise distractions from the non-educational use of personal devices in the learning environment at times when a device is being used by a student in line with an approved exemption or in circumstances where students’ devices are stored in the classroom. Respond to instances of non-compliance in line with the school’s policy. Report and respond to incidents of inappropriate use of personal devices in line with department policy and procedures and any legislative requirements. Make sure that any student personal devices handed in for their care are stored in a secure location and are returned to the student (or their parent). Model appropriate use of mobile phones and support families to understand the importance of promoting safe, responsible and respectful use of mobile phones to their children. Switch personal mobile phones off or mute during teaching times and meetings. Only answer or make calls in break times or unless previously discussed with leadership eg awaiting an urgent pressing call. Personal mobile phones must not be used to communicate with parents/carers (ie calls and text messages) - Protective Practices, 2017. Students Comply with the requirements of the school’s policy and follow all reasonable directions from the Principal and school staff. If permitted to use a mobile phone or personal device in line with an exemption under this policy, do so in a safe, responsible and respectful way and support peers to do the same. Communicate respectfully with others and do not use a mobile phone or other personal device to bully, harass or threaten another person. Respect others’ rights to privacy and do not take photos, film or audio records of other people without their knowledge or permission. Parents Support the implementation of the school’s policy, including the consequences for non-compliance with the policy. Use the school’s formal communication channels in all instances to communicate with the school (including where a student requires early collection from school). Encourage their child to always report to a school staff member in the first instance if they become unwell or experience an issue at school. Recognise the important role they play in supporting their child to use their mobile phone (or other personal device) in a safe, responsible and respectful way. Communication and review This policy has been developed in line with the Department for Education’s ‘Student use of mobile phones and personal devices policy’ and in consultation with the Ascot Park Primary School community. It can be accessed on the school’s website. The policy will be reviewed each year by staff, VOK (Voice of Kids) and the Governing Council. Supporting information

BOOKINGS/CANCELLATIONS Please ensure your child is enrolled before filling out the following forms. Enrolment forms are available at OSHC front desk, Ascot Park Primary School website and via email request. All bookings must be confirmed by 29 June. We will need 10 children minimum each day to go ahead with the school holiday program. As a small OSHC we rely on bookings to be able to open. Vacation care: Cancellations will only be accepted with a medical certificate which must be given to or sent to the director by 5.30pm on Friday of the week the child was absent (this is when invoices are generated). COST PER DAY & ADDITIONAL CHARGES Days are charged at $58 per child for excursion and special days, excluding eligible Child Care Subsidy reductions. Most families receive up to 85% subsidy which equals $8.70 per day. Non-excursion days are $53 per child which works out roughly to $7.95. Please check percentages with Centrelink as each family’s percentages are different. Please also ensure your emergency collection authorities are up to date. BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT Behaviour management guideline within the service are in line with Ascot Park Primary School. It’s expected that all children adhere to these guidelines or appropriate consequences will apply. WEATHER/APPROPRAITE CLOTHING All planned activities and excursions times are subject to service ability and weather conditions. If the forecasted weather on the day is 36°C or above, or stormy conditions are expected, outdoor activities will be modified. Children are to wear appropriate clothing ie closed in shoes (no sandals, thongs etc) and sun-smart clothing ie no singlet or tank tops. Thongs are only to be worn on water themed days. If it is expected to be raining, please supply your child with a rain jacket. If your child experiences toileting troubles and/or discomfort and is old enough to change them- selves, an extra pair of undergarments is recommended to be supplied. EXCURSIONS On excursion days, children must arrive by time stated on the program for roll call and a safety talk. We cannot wait for late arrivals. Please also allow 20 minutes when collecting your child from OSHC as return times for excursions may change due to unforeseen circumstances, like heavy traffic. No reminder text messages will be sent out during school holidays care. PAYMENTS Payments can be made via the online app QKR! or bank transfer. Bank transfer information can be found on your tax
invoice which is sent out via email on Thursdays.
MEDICATION AND ILLNESS Children’s medication must be labelled in the original container and authorisation must be completed prior. You, or another authorised collection person will be expected to collect your child if they become ill, experience toileting issues or have a condition that could affect others. MEALS AND SNACK TIMES Breakfast options are provided each day of Vacation Care. If you wish for your child to eat breakfast please let staff know on arrival - breakfast finishes at 8.30am during Vacation care. Options are variety of cereals and toast with assortment of toppings. Please bring recess and lunch for each day. Do not send your child with food that requires heating, cooking or refrigeration unless specified on the program. We are not permitted to heat or chill children's food brought from home. Afternoon tea will be supplied. BELONGINGS Blankets, toys, games, collector’s cards etc are not be brought to OSHC (unless specified in the program). Mobile phones and electronic devices must not be brought unless specified in the program as indicated by the picture. Belongings can be lost or broken and the OSHC service takes no responsibility for these items. We now have a computer room attached to oshc that we maybe able to use some days. Electronics are not a main focus at oshc as we encourage children to participate in planned activities for that day.

Parent Update Week 5, Term 2 – 2021 A focus on your child’s learning As you probably know, high schools differ from primary schools in their learning structure and schedule. Your child has had one class teacher and classroom for most of their lessons in primary school.
In high school, they will move between different classrooms and be taught by a wider range of teachers who are specialists in their fields.
Readiness for a more mature setting We know from our pilot program that year 7s are well and truly ready for high school.
The pilot involves three public high schools that began welcoming year 7s in 2020 to provide us with early insights on the move. Having listened to the experiences of their students, families and staff, we know the vast majority of year 7s quickly settle into high school and benefit from the new learning and social opportunities it offers.
Pilot program students have told us they enjoy the independence, peer interactions and responsibilities of high school, which also reflects the experiences of students interstate. All other Australian states already teach year 7 in high school. Queensland and Western Australia made the move most recently in 2015.
High school learning content All South Australian school students learn the Australian Curriculum. This will not change as year 7 moves to high school. Teachers will support your child to adjust to high school expectations and will help them to build confidence in their learning.
Many students in our pilot program acknowledged there was an expectation they would work hard and complete assignments on time in high school. Parents were proud of how their children rose to this challenge. Students also said they felt supported to achieve by their new high school teachers.
“My teachers make me feel very calm because they reassure me that I can do the work and I’m not going to fail,” – pilot school student.
Access to specialist teachers and resources Under the Australian Curriculum, year 7 is designed to be taught in a high school setting, with access to specialist resources such as fully equipped science laboratories, performing arts spaces, kitchens and design and technology equipment. Many high school teachers also have additional training in particular learning areas.
Beyond the classroom, high schools offer extra- curricular opportunities to extend your child’s social, academic and physical learning, such as sports, debating, clubs and music groups.
“You’ve got teachers that are teaching subjects they specialise in, rather than in primary school it’s one teacher,” – pilot school parent.
Specialist teachers Our high school teachers are trained and have access to evidence-based approaches and professional learning to teach adolescent students.
We are bringing more than 100 primary teachers into our high schools and offering them additional professional learning to prepare for the year 7 to high school move. Students and school communities will continue to benefit from their extensive accumulated knowledge of year 7 curriculum and teaching methods.
Our high school teachers are also being offered additional professional learning in the lead-up to the move, to ensure they are confident and ready to teach year 7s.

Mobile phones and personal devices policy 2021
MOBILE PHONES AND PERSONAL DEVICES POLICY Purpose This policy provides direction to students, staff and families about managing mobile phones and other digital devices that students choose to bring to school. Digital devices include, but are not limited to, smartwatches, tablets or laptops that are not part of a separate Bring Your Own Device arrangement. This policy applies while students are at school, or attending an authorised school activity such as an excursion, during school hours. Mobile phone use for primary school students The department’s position is that primary aged students cannot use their mobile phones and personal devices at school during school hours. The department and the school recognise that there are legitimate reasons for students to bring a mobile phone or personal device to school. This may include:

so that parents can contact them outside of school hours. During the school day students are not permitted to access or use their mobile phones or other personal devices. Students must switch off or mute their devices before storing them at the beginning of the school day. They will not be able to access their device until the end of the school day. Storage of personal devices Students who choose to bring mobile phones or personal devices to school, do so at their own risk. Mobile phones must be switched off or put on silent and stored in the student’s school bag upon entering school grounds and may only be used once they leave the school grounds at the end of the day. If the student does not comply The leadership team in consultation with the teacher will use their professional judgment to determine the appropriate level and response strategy if a student doesn’t comply with this policy. If confiscation is a consequence for non-compliance, the student’s device will be securely stored in the front office which can then be collected at the end of the school day. There may also be consequences in line with the school’s behaviour code and anti-bullying policy, for incidents of misuse of mobile phones and personal digital devices that occur during or out of school hours. These incidents include:
bullying and harassment
transmission of explicit images
photographing, recording or uploading inappropriate content. Some instances of misuse of a mobile phone or other personal device may constitute a criminal offence, in which case they will be reported to the police.

Consider requests for exemptions from the policy from parents on a case-by-case basis. Make sure that approved exemptions are documented and that relevant staff are informed about students’ exemptions. Model appropriate use of mobile phones and support families to understand the importance of promoting safe, responsible and respectful use of mobile phones to their children. School staff Deliver learning opportunities and maintain a safe and productive learning environment. Take steps to minimise distractions from the non-educational use of personal devices in the learning environment at times when a device is being used by a student in line with an approved exemption or in circumstances where students’ devices are stored in the classroom. Respond to instances of non-compliance in line with the school’s policy. Report and respond to incidents of inappropriate use of personal devices in line with department policy and procedures and any legislative requirements. Make sure that any student personal devices handed in for their care are stored in a secure location and are returned to the student (or their parent). Model appropriate use of mobile phones and support families to understand the importance of promoting safe, responsible and respectful use of mobile phones to their children. Switch personal mobile phones off or mute during teaching times and meetings. Only answer or make calls in break times or unless previously discussed with leadership eg awaiting an urgent pressing call. Personal mobile phones must not be used to communicate with parents/carers (ie calls and text messages) - Protective Practices, 2017. Students Comply with the requirements of the school’s policy and follow all reasonable directions from the Principal and school staff. If permitted to use a mobile phone or personal device in line with an exemption under this policy, do so in a safe, responsible and respectful way and support peers to do the same. Communicate respectfully with others and do not use a mobile phone or other personal device to bully, harass or threaten another person. Respect others’ rights to privacy and do not take photos, film or audio records of other people without their knowledge or permission. Parents Support the implementation of the school’s policy, including the consequences for non-compliance with the policy. Use the school’s formal communication channels in all instances to communicate with the school (including where a student requires early collection from school). Encourage their child to always report to a school staff member in the first instance if they become unwell or experience an issue at school. Recognise the important role they play in supporting their child to use their mobile phone (or other personal device) in a safe, responsible and respectful way. Communication and review This policy has been developed in line with the Department for Education’s ‘Student use of mobile phones and personal devices policy’ and in consultation with the Ascot Park Primary School community. It can be accessed on the school’s website. The policy will be reviewed each year by staff, VOK (Voice of Kids) and the Governing Council. Supporting information

Family Information
BOOKINGS/CANCELLATIONS Please ensure your child is enrolled before filling out the following forms. Enrolment forms are available at OSHC front desk, Ascot Park Primary School website and via email request. All bookings must be confirmed by 29 June. We will need 10 children minimum each day to go ahead with the school holiday program. As a small OSHC we rely on bookings to be able to open. Vacation care: Cancellations will only be accepted with a medical certificate which must be given to or sent to the director by 5.30pm on Friday of the week the child was absent (this is when invoices are generated). COST PER DAY & ADDITIONAL CHARGES Days are charged at $58 per child for excursion and special days, excluding eligible Child Care Subsidy reductions. Most families receive up to 85% subsidy which equals $8.70 per day. Non-excursion days are $53 per child which works out roughly to $7.95. Please check percentages with Centrelink as each family’s percentages are different. Please also ensure your emergency collection authorities are up to date. BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT Behaviour management guideline within the service are in line with Ascot Park Primary School. It’s expected that all children adhere to these guidelines or appropriate consequences will apply. WEATHER/APPROPRAITE CLOTHING All planned activities and excursions times are subject to service ability and weather conditions. If the forecasted weather on the day is 36°C or above, or stormy conditions are expected, outdoor activities will be modified. Children are to wear appropriate clothing ie closed in shoes (no sandals, thongs etc) and sun-smart clothing ie no singlet or tank tops. Thongs are only to be worn on water themed days. If it is expected to be raining, please supply your child with a rain jacket. If your child experiences toileting troubles and/or discomfort and is old enough to change them- selves, an extra pair of undergarments is recommended to be supplied. EXCURSIONS On excursion days, children must arrive by time stated on the program for roll call and a safety talk. We cannot wait for late arrivals. Please also allow 20 minutes when collecting your child from OSHC as return times for excursions may change due to unforeseen circumstances, like heavy traffic. No reminder text messages will be sent out during school holidays care. PAYMENTS Payments can be made via the online app QKR! or bank transfer. Bank transfer information can be found on your tax
invoice which is sent out via email on Thursdays.
MEDICATION AND ILLNESS Children’s medication must be labelled in the original container and authorisation must be completed prior. You, or another authorised collection person will be expected to collect your child if they become ill, experience toileting issues or have a condition that could affect others. MEALS AND SNACK TIMES Breakfast options are provided each day of Vacation Care. If you wish for your child to eat breakfast please let staff know on arrival - breakfast finishes at 8.30am during Vacation care. Options are variety of cereals and toast with assortment of toppings. Please bring recess and lunch for each day. Do not send your child with food that requires heating, cooking or refrigeration unless specified on the program. We are not permitted to heat or chill children's food brought from home. Afternoon tea will be supplied. BELONGINGS Blankets, toys, games, collector’s cards etc are not be brought to OSHC (unless specified in the program). Mobile phones and electronic devices must not be brought unless specified in the program as indicated by the picture. Belongings can be lost or broken and the OSHC service takes no responsibility for these items. We now have a computer room attached to oshc that we maybe able to use some days. Electronics are not a main focus at oshc as we encourage children to participate in planned activities for that day.

We will be travelling using private transport if it is raining. No Public transport will be used. Please arrive 30 minutes prior to departing time as we will provide a safety talk and sun block before we leave. We can not wait for late arrivals as this will affect our bookings. We also can not sign children in while walking to an excursion once we have left school grounds, as this takes our attention away from observing traffic and safety of others.

Parent Update Week 5, Term 2 – 2021 A focus on your child’s learning As you probably know, high schools differ from primary schools in their learning structure and schedule. Your child has had one class teacher and classroom for most of their lessons in primary school.
In high school, they will move between different classrooms and be taught by a wider range of teachers who are specialists in their fields.
Readiness for a more mature setting We know from our pilot program that year 7s are well and truly ready for high school.
The pilot involves three public high schools that began welcoming year 7s in 2020 to provide us with early insights on the move. Having listened to the experiences of their students, families and staff, we know the vast majority of year 7s quickly settle into high school and benefit from the new learning and social opportunities it offers.
Pilot program students have told us they enjoy the independence, peer interactions and responsibilities of high school, which also reflects the experiences of students interstate. All other Australian states already teach year 7 in high school. Queensland and Western Australia made the move most recently in 2015.
High school learning content All South Australian school students learn the Australian Curriculum. This will not change as year 7 moves to high school. Teachers will support your child to adjust to high school expectations and will help them to build confidence in their learning.
Many students in our pilot program acknowledged there was an expectation they would work hard and complete assignments on time in high school. Parents were proud of how their children rose to this challenge. Students also said they felt supported to achieve by their new high school teachers.
“My teachers make me feel very calm because they reassure me that I can do the work and I’m not going to fail,” – pilot school student.
Access to specialist teachers and resources Under the Australian Curriculum, year 7 is designed to be taught in a high school setting, with access to specialist resources such as fully equipped science laboratories, performing arts spaces, kitchens and design and technology equipment. Many high school teachers also have additional training in particular learning areas.
Beyond the classroom, high schools offer extra- curricular opportunities to extend your child’s social, academic and physical learning, such as sports, debating, clubs and music groups.
“You’ve got teachers that are teaching subjects they specialise in, rather than in primary school it’s one teacher,” – pilot school parent.
Specialist teachers Our high school teachers are trained and have access to evidence-based approaches and professional learning to teach adolescent students.
We are bringing more than 100 primary teachers into our high schools and offering them additional professional learning to prepare for the year 7 to high school move. Students and school communities will continue to benefit from their extensive accumulated knowledge of year 7 curriculum and teaching methods.
Our high school teachers are also being offered additional professional learning in the lead-up to the move, to ensure they are confident and ready to teach year 7s.
