Congratulations to our fortnightly merit award recipients...

We welcome some new faces to APS

My name is Sebastian Cosentino, and I am delighted to be a part of the Adamstown Public

School community for my internship. I tend to think of myself as a curious learner and

caring teacher.

I am eager to take on a wide variety of roles in the school which will develop my skills and to

create authentic relationships with all students.

My interests have formed into passions that include culture, creative arts, sports, and

nature. Hopefully I get the opportunity to share this throughout my experience!

Hello parents and caregivers, my name is Luke Homer and I am currently in the final year of

my Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) at the University of Newcastle. I will be completing my

internship with the amazing class 5/6D.

I grew up in Newcastle and love being active in the outdoors. I enjoy playing a range sports

such as tennis, touch football, soccer and surfing. My favourite colour is green and my go to

meal is a chicken parmigiana.

I am very energetic and love learning about and trying new things. I look forward to spending the term at Adamstown Public.

Library News

Book Fair

On Wednesday 28th July, Adamstown Public School is once again hosting its annual Book Fair in the Library. This year Scholastic Books will be supplying the books for our fair.

There will be a wide range of new and recently released books from which to choose. All commissions made from sales will be used to buy new books for our students to borrow at school. A bookmark is included with all book purchases.

Students can fill out a Wish List of books during the fair that they might like to purchase. This Wish List will then be sent home with the name and cost of the book/s your child would like. Due to current Covid-19 restrictions the purchasing of books from the Book Fair may be done in the following ways:

1. Students or Parents may pay at the office via cash/eftpos/chq or

2. Online via POP

Book Parade

On Wednesday 28th July we will be holding our annual Book Week Parade for all

grades.

This year’s Book Week theme is “Old Worlds, New Worlds, Other Worlds” and children

are asked to dress up as their favourite book character. We have been discussing types

of costumes that can be worn during library lessons. Examples can be all types of sports,

superheroes and nearly all movies are now books. Costumes can be simple or

extravagant but safety is essential.

Students are to come to school dressed in their costume as the parade is being held in

the morning.

Unfortunately, due to NSW Department of Education and NSW Health restrictions relating to COVID-19, parents & carers are unable to attend this event. However, we will share plenty of photos and videos on our school website, school Facebook account and student’s Seesaw accounts (as applicable).

At this stage we are still only accepting the initial holding deposit for both of these excursions.

The Department still has excursions on hold and as soon as we receive notification either way

we will be letting our community know.

Please continue to budget at home with the expectation that the excursions will be going

ahead. We will not be requesting any further payments at the office other than the initial

holding deposit. Thank you for your understanding during these uncertain times.

Attendance Matters - Film Competition In Term 2, Adamstown Public School submitted a short film into a Department of Education's film competition. This film showcased students from Kindergarten to Year 6 and highlighted the impact and importance of attendance at school. The film 'Attendance Matters' was one of 86 films to be submitted into the competition. The quality of submissions was high and we are pleased to announce that we ranked 14th overall. This short film will be posted on filmby.schools.nsw.gov.au and will be available for viewing.

A big congratulations to all involved with this astounding effort!
