Providing a place for women with cancer to heal: mind, body, and soul

As we begin a month of being THANKFUL, I would like to embrace each one of you and tell you how thankful I am for your outpouring of love over the past few months. Your cards, emails, meals, flowers, phone calls and most especially your prayers have meant so much to me. I feel so blessed to have ALL of you in my life. I am happy to report that I am healing from surgery and am all clear! I am fine!

This road not only humbled me, but has given me many lessons. To our guests facing cancer head on each day, you are the most courageous people I have ever met...

Love,Michele

My stay at Mary's Place was a tremendous, heart warming experience. I had reached a point with my treatment and road to recovery that just didn't seem I could keep going. I believe during my stay, I found my purpose to keep going forward. The setting by the ocean, the services, the staff, and volunteers were truly so healing to my spirit and my mind. As I think about it right now, I get a little overwhelmed by what your generosity and hard work has given to me and my family.

Thank you all for my second chance!Much love to you all, K

Testimonial

Thank YOU!!!! I feel so renewed after those 2 days- I can't begin to describe what it did for my head, and my heart. Our whole house is feeling the effects and it's very peaceful. Love it. So much amazing energy too- I was happy to be a part of it.

BrianneGuest of Mary’s Place by the Sea

I met Michele in Feb. of 2012 at McLoones Supper Club where my husband plays in a band with Tim.... A mutual acquaintance thought we should meet... As Michele told me all about Mary's  Place, I knew immediately I was hooked. As a breast cancer survivor myself, I could see that this was an amazing concept that was desperately needed. I was fortunate that our 2 boys  were older and out of the house when I went through treatment 5 years ago. Having to take care of children would be awfully difficult - leaving no time to just be you-a woman battling cancer. You put on a face, trying to take care of everyone around you. You're a wife, mom, friend, sister, daughter - used to handling what life throws at you. You do your best to continue no matter how awful you feel. Mary's Place is an escape. What an idea!I offered to do anything needed at the house- cleaning, laundry, cooking- whatever. Michele and Maria said I should just talk.  That's most of what I do.... Along with household odds and ends, I find myself spending hours at the dining room able sharing stories, listening to strong and amazing women who are in the fight.  They laugh, they cry, they bond together. It is an amazing respite to just BE.... Whatever they want. Some sleep, some shop, some walk the boardwalk if they can. Some catch up with friends. Some just need a sympathetic ear -away from the pitiful looks we get so used to.The services Mary's Place  offers free of charge ; massage, reiki, nutrition counseling, journaling -just to name a few - rejuvenate the body and the soul. And then there's Janice... The kindest , most spiritual person. She's truly the house mom. What care she provides... Between Michele, Maria, and Janice- no guest leaves who hasn't become better and stronger than she came.Mary's Place is a blessing. You feel it when you walk through the front door. The majestic Atlantic is steps away, but Mary's Place could be in the middle of a desert- it's like an oasis....I feel so lucky to have found it, and  will volunteer as long as they'll have me.-Marilee

Runway for Recovery Leslie Hecht is one of our gracious volunteers that started coming to us on Tuesdays to knit with our guests. She started Runway for Recovery several years ago benefiting Mary’s Place for the past three years. This year she raised her goal of $10,000 that will sustain us for two months in rent.

Shades of PinkJunel Hutchinson and Diane Riporti, co-chaired their first annual benefit, Shades of Pink, to benefit Mary’s Place. When asked why Hutuchinson felt it important to raise funds for Mary's Place by the Sea she said, "As a survivor, I have made it my mission to help those in need!" Fairway Mews Golf Outing Memorial for Elaine Savoia was held with Mary’s Place being the benefactor for the past two years. Goodi  Stewart,  who  helped  chair  the  committee  this  year  said  of  the  event,“Many  helping  hands  and  generous  hearts  in  the  Fairway  Mews  community  ensured  this  memorial  to  Elaine  Savoia  continues  to  generate  funds  and  support  for  cancer  survivors.  I  am  particularly  pleased  that  this  year's  focus  was  on  Mary's  Place  by  the  Sea,  a  wonderful  place  where  women  with  cancer  can  go  to  receive  support  and  love.    Their  staff  and  contributors  were  instrumental  in  making  this  event  a  success."

Mala on a MissionMarilyn Schlossbach owner of Langosta Lounge and Krista Lynn Eggering owner of ArtSpa hosted an enjoyable evening at Langosta Lounge on October 15.  We all enjoyed making our very own Mala necklace, learning about the spiritual and healing qualities of stones and working with the angel cards. We were empowered and inspired by our experience while raising money and awareness for Mary's Place.

Shane McNamara brought a leadership project in to Mary’s Place to decorate journals for our guests. We appreciate the efforts of our youth in our community that continuously show support to our mission.

Loom 4 HopeTeresa and Brooke held an event honoring guests of Mary’s Place at Bradley Beach Fire Department by making Rainbow Loom bracelets. It’s social responsibility like this that will influence more volunteers in charities like Mary’s Place in the future.
