Rana Peele Crosby, of Boyertown, PA, found the below article in her newspaper. I found this to be amazingly interesting because Appling, GA is only about 50 miles from where I live. Now, we try to find just where Janie Peel lives and who she is. If you know her, contact me and let’s see if we can find more information about her! Rana sent $5 in for a year’s subscription for Janie if we can find her!

CORRECTION FROM ISSUE 2

The below 4 statements, according to Marvin Peele, are true. However, the Robert Peele they refer to is not related to the Lawrence

Peelle family. Marvin contacted me and said that years ago, when he compiled these facts he thought this Robert was connected but

later they learned he came to Maryland in 1673 with his wife Mary.. He had lived in Somerset Co., MD and Northampton Co., VA

and later in Princes Anne Co., VA where his will was filed. His first wife died before 1684. Two sons mentioned in his will but who

their mother was is a ? .

1684 Robert Peele married Rose Yeardley Ryding who was the granddaughter of Governor Yeardley of Virginia (died in office

in 1627).

1694 Frances Peele patented 700 acres in Accomack County, VA. This escheated land was formally owned by Thomas Ryding

(first husband of Rose Yeardley).

1704 “Quit Rent” land records for Nansemond County:

Robert Peele 275 acres

William Peele 180 acres

1705 Robert Peele’s will recorded in Princess Anne County, VA. He gave to sons, Thomas and Henry, 12 pence each in ready

money, it being their full share of his estate. Remainder of estate and money in England was given to his wife, Rose.

Unusual hobby: woman collects outhouses

APPLING, GA (AP) – They once were a rural American staple, a necessity for daily life. Today outhouses are mostly gone

– but not if you wander into Janie Peel’s back yard. She has three and might have two more on the way, one from Texas.

“This is my newest one,” she said, gesturing toward a vintage double-seater that was moved in its entirety to her farm.

“It took three men to lift it” she said. “But if we hadn’t it would have been torn down.”

Outhouse have always fascinated Peel, an east-Georgia commercial real estate broker who now collects them.

Her favorite is an ancient two-holer with a tin roof and crude cedar posts for corners. The rusted metal on one side is

peppered with shotgun pellets – just where the occupants would have been sitting.

Peel isn’t sure whether the circular pattern of tiny holes is the result of vandalism, assault or perhaps someone’s innovative

idea to improve ventilation.

“It has a lot of character,” she said. “You have to wonder about the conversations that might have taken place in there.”

FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS

We thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new.

We thought of you yesterday, and days before that too.

We think of you in silence, we speak your name with pride,

and we relive our memories of living side by side.

Your memory is our keepsake with which we'll never part.

God has you in his keeping - we have you in our heart.

The following was overheard at a recent 'high society' party.

"My ancestry goes back all the way to Alexander the Great," said Christine.

She then turned to Noah Goldberg and asked, "How far back does your family go?"

"I don't know," replied Noah, "All of our records were lost in the flood."

CURE FOR ITCING OF BURNS source: Rhoda Mills (Mrs. Jonathan)

Take bark from red bud trees, make strong tea by boiling the bark in sufficient water to cover, when cold, strain and

sponge or bathe the affected parts quite frequently.

RAREBIT source: Myrtle Mills (Mrs. Elias Mills)

Take cottage cheese, seasoned with salt, pepper and cream as for table use. Fry in hot butter until all milk disappears,

stirring constantly. Pour into mold, let stand until cold, slice into think slices.

SUET DUMPLINGS source: Rhoda Mills (Mrs. Jonathan Mills)

Take one quart of flour, about one-half as much of finely chopped apples, and half as much chopped suet as apples; mix

with buttermilk, containing half teaspoonful soda and salt to taste. Roll half inch thick; cut with biscuit cutter and drop in

a kettle of boiling water; boil until suet is thoroughly done. Place a saucer in kettle to prevent dumplings from sticking to

kettle.

(note: What is suet? Diane)
