SISMICIDAD EN ESPAÑA
La sismicidad de España se concentra fundamentalmente en el Sur -Sureste y está asociada al contacto de las placas tectónicas Euroasiática y Africana, aunque también hay una importante actividad intrapalca en Cataluña-Pirineos y en Galicia.
Algunos terremotos destructores han ocurrido en época histórica en nuestro país, llegando a alcanzar intensidades de X en la escala MSK, que consta de 12 grados. Durante el siglo XX y lo que llevamos del siglo XXI ningún terremoto ha superado el grado de intensidad VIII. En esta época ya existían sismógrafos, y por tanto ya se podía medir la magnitud, cuyo valor máximo ha sido de 7 para un terremoto ocurrido en Durcal (Granada) en 1954. La profundidad del hipocentro fue de 650 km, lo que hizo que apenas hubiera daños.
Los terremotos que han producido mayores daños en época
histórica han sido los siguientes: Sentido con Intensidad X en Cadiz1755 Sw cabo de San Vicente, conocido como “sismo de Lisboa”
Sentidos con Intensidad IX-X:
1428 en Queralbs (Gerona), 1829 en Torrevieja (Alicante), 1884 en Arenas del Rey (Granada).
Sentido con Intensidad IX1748 en Estubeny (Valencia)
Los últimos terremotos que han causado daños, aunque
considerablemente menores que los anteriores son:
1997 en Becerrea (Lugo), con magnitud de 5.1 e Intensidad VI1999 Mula (Murcia) , magnitud 4.7 e Intensidad VI2002 Bullas (Murcia) , magnitud 5.0 e intensidad V2005 La Paca (Murcia) , magnitud 4.8 e intensidad VII
