Photo by Jesse Huniford. Special Collections invites undergraduates to submit proposals for PechaKucha presentations. PechaKucha presenters show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, with slides advancing automatically, and without exceeding the time limit of 6 minutes and 40 seconds. Undergraduate research will be presented from 11am-12pm. Graduate research papers will follow the 12noon keynote lecture. The symposium is convened on the occasion of the current exhibition Camp Pause (Sept 12–Dec 14, 2018). Camp Pause follows four refugees, who narrate their experiences in a Palestinian camp. It engages modes of story- telling, ideas of refuge, and the symbol of the sea. Possible topics might involve: STORYTELLING: as communal power as private experience versus public communication as oral and/or embodied performance as clandestine as empathy building as personal narrative or identity formation in mode of Fairytales, folklore, and mythology as a transcultural agent as critical monument/memorial Please e-mail a title, 200–250-word abstract, and short bio to Laurel McLaughlin, Ridgway Curatorial Fellow, [email protected]. The deadline for submission is October 26, 2018. Presenters will be notified of their selection by Friday, October 27, 2018.
