The GTM modules are developed to be connected to the GSM 850, GSM 900, DCS 1800 and PCS 1900 network using harmonized frequencies, therefore no particular notification is necessary. 1. GTM PLC VW Introduction

1.1 Notes The following information shown in this document is subject to change without prior notice. The GTM PLC VW is part of a new generation of wireless products using the GSM network (Global System for Mobile communication). This manual describes the GTM PLC VW and its functioning. They are intended to be used as a wireless embedded system, as an alarm system and/or as a telemetry device and can be used only with the MITSUBISHI ALPHA XL Controllers and its derivate products and will work as an extension module. The GTM PLC VW uses the SMS (Short Message System, 160 characters) to send text message on request, periodical or simple queries, as well they are able to use GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) connection to transmit data out of the EGDL (Easy Gprs Data Logger) and for its programming. In typical applications, the GTM PLC VW is a very effective solution taking into account simple and low cost mean of information transportation (SMS and GPRS). The combination between the GTM PLC VW functions and the ALPHA 2 XL controller functions will cover almost all requirements in the field of industrial automation with GSM assistance and will create then a compact and powerful solution. Besides, the GTM PLC VW can be used in many applications such as security and alarm system, telemetry, remote control, asset management, vending machines, etc…. Besides normal programming, the GTM PLC VW includes all SMS and GPRS programming and modification functionality that belong to the actual GTM family. That means programming, request, programming modification, remote control by SMS as well as GPRS programming. For any information on MITSUBISH ALPHA XL Controller and its derivate products, please refer to the corresponding Controller manual, see: http://www.mitsubishi-automation.com/products/microcontrollers.html. These manuals contain text, diagrams and explanation which will guide users in the correct programming and operation of the Controllers. Before attempting to install the GTM PLC VW in the Controller, the following manuals should be read and understood.

1.3 Vocabulary The purpose of this section is to describe the vocabulary used in this documentation. Keyword (Further called). Description GSM (GSM). Global System for Mobile Communications. SMS (SMS). Short Message System. A SMS is a bidirectional service for short alphanumeric (up to 160 bytes) messages. Messages are transported in a store-and-forward fashion. For point- to-point SMS, a message can be sent to another subscriber to the service, and an acknowledgement of receipt could be provided to the sender. SIM (SIM). Subscriber Identity Module. Smart card providing personal mobility, so that the user can have access to subscribed services. GPRS (GPRS). General Packet Radio Service. The data is divided into packets and is then transferred via the radio and core GPRS network. In GTM applications, it is used to repatriate the data from the GSM unit data logger to the AXELPROD EGDL server. PS: Data can not be repatriated directly to cell phones. GTM PLC VW (GTM PLC VW). GSM Transmitter Module for Programmable Logic ALPHA 2 XL Controller with Virtual Wire. IR-PCB (IR-PCB). Infra Red Printed Circuit Board. Small PCB delivered with the GTM PLC VW to link the ALPHA 2 XL controller and the GSM unit for the serial communication. FB (FB). User-friendly method combining special purpose dedicated Function Blocks used to program MITSUBISH ALPHA XL Controllers and derivate products. 2. GTM PLC VW programming and product description The purpose of this section is to describe the programming principle, the GTM PLC VW programming software and the product functions. The programming software can be only used with the GTM PLC VW. The following document will describe how to program the GTM PLC VW by the means of the programming software and give a description off all functions of the products. For any hardware information, please refer to the chapter 3.

2.1 Programming principle This section reference ALPHA 2 XL controller manual: Controller programming manual. Controller software manual. In this section, only the programming principle is explained. Programming details are described in chapter. 2.2 As the GSM unit has a built in intelligence that needs to be programmed as well as the ALPHA 2 XL controller does. Therefore, the user will need to program the GSM unit with its programming software and its cable or by Virtual Wire, as well as the Controller with the AL-PCS/WIN-E2 with its cable. The user will have to purchase an extra programming cable.

ALPHA 2 XL programming: Picture 2.1a, creating a CB list

CB, digital signal Each FB should be programmed properly and all FBs needed for SMS transmission must be wired with an OFF-DELAY. (B194, B196, B199). This section reference ALPHA 2 XL controller manual: Communication manual Ch. 6. Then, all OFF-DELAY FB will be added automatically in the FB list. The user will choose among the FB list the right OFF-DELAY FBs to create a CB list. This CB list will be scanned by the GSM unit of the GTM PLC VW for SMS generation. A maximum of 99 CBs can then be created for SMS transmission (99 alarm criterions). (See picture 2.1a). CW, analog signal FBs can contain also analog values (from -32768 to 32767). In order to reach them by SMS or by Virtual Wire, as well as for the FBs for the CBs list, all needed FBs must be selected to create the CW list. The user will choose among the FB list the right FBs to create this CW list. A list of maximum of 99 CWs can be created for consulting or modification by SMS or used for the Virtual Wire. See picture 2.1b.

Once the Controller is programmed, the user will run the GTM PLC VW programming software and, among other functions, associates the CBs and CW list with CB name and CW name, the corresponding SMS text and the destinations. Picture 2.1c, associating CB name, corresponding SMS text and destinations.

2.2 GTM PLC VW programming and function description (by PC) This section presents the GTM PLC VW programming software. It will guide the user through the ALPHA 2 XL controller and the GSM unit programming and will describe its functions through clear examples: 1 Digital signal FB, CB. 2 Analog signal FB, CW. 3 Program the GSM unit using the GTM PLC VW programming software. The whole programming is saved in a non volatile memory, therefore between turning on and turning off the GSM unit, the programming remains. Before programming and choosing the “Connection” menu, the GSM unit must be ready to be properly powered.

2.2.1 Digital signal FB, CB programming After a new FBD .vls file is created using the Mitsubishi ALPHA 2XL programming software, the user must set, under the menu “Option/GSM and serial communication…”, the serial communication to “Other”.

This phase is mandatory , without it, the GTM PLC VW GSM unit is unable to communicate with the ALPHA 2 XL. At least one power turning off and on process must be done on the ALPHA 2 XL in order to take the “Other” programming into account. This process can be done later.

Example: The user places for Input 1 (I 01) a counter with a “number of counts” of 5 (threshold at 5). Wires to the counter a OFF-DELAY FB programmed with a 300 seconds off delay.. Picture 2.2a, creating the FB05 for alarm SMS.

Then, the Option/Dedicated communication menu must be opened. Picture 2.2b, associating the FB05 with CB01 for alarm SMS creating a CB list.

Station number must be always let to 0 and communication memory always to 50 or 100

The user will associate the FB No B5 to CBNo 1 in order to create the first alarm criterion. This Communication Bit (CB01) will be scanned by the GSM unit of the GTM PLC VW as the first criterion to generate a SMS. The same procedure will be used for further FB until a maximum of CB99. The CB list must not contain any “holes” meaning all CBs must follow each other.

The Station number must always be 0 and the communi cation memory of 50 or 100 Each FB should be programmed properly and all FBs needed for SMS transmission must be wired to an OFF-DELAY programmed with the minimum time of 180 seconds.

2.2.2 Analog signal FB, CW programming The “Analog” FBs value can have a value from -32768 to 32767. If the user wishes to get or modify these values by SMS or use them for the VW monitoring system, these values must be declared. This declaration will be done through the CW list: Picture 2.2c, associating the FB06 with CW01 (Count) or/and CW02 (Current Count) to create a CW list.

Proceeding this way, Count and Current Count of FB06 can be used as described above. Once all FBs have been programmed along with their CB list and CW list, the user can write the programming to the ALPHA 2 XL controller.

2.2.3 GTM PLC VW programming by PC using the progra mming software Download previously the free GTM PLC VW PROGRAMMER software from www.axelprod.net. The installation has to be done following the instructions included in the software installation. Insert the SIM card first on the module, the GTM must not be powered .

Connect the Spy/Programming jack cable to the GTM PLC VW. Connect the serial cable connector to the right PC com port.

Tab Connection Run the software, the first window will appear: Go to the menu Connection and click on Connect. At this time, it will be asked to turn off the power supply (if it is on) a few seconds and turn it back on. Choose the right com port and click on OPEN. If the right com port is chosen, a few tens of seconds later the software and the GTM PLC VW will be connected together.

If the PIN code of the SIM card is enabled, PIN code will be ask and if the user wishes to disable it, it can be done by clicking on Disable PIN. The PIN code being disabled, it can not be enabled back by this software.

Tab GSM Network

GSM Status: Click on GSM Status in order to get all of available GSM operators. Once the GSM operator list has been automatically filled, the user will choose the GSM band and the GSM operator among the list presented in the pull down menus. The user might choose from all automatic choice, GSM band and operators, to fully lock on one specific operator. If Automatic is chosen in the pull down menu GSM Band, the GTM PLC VW will need maximum 90 seconds to find the right GSM band automatically. (AXELPROD advises not to use this choice) If Automatic is chosen in the pull down menu GSM operator, the GTM PLC VW will choose always the best operator giving the best signal. If a specific GSM operator is chosen and the check box lock manual choice is checked , the GTM PLC VW will be locked on the chosen GSM operator. If this operator is no longer available, the GTM PLC VW will not be reachable anymore. If a specific GSM operator is chosen and the check box lock manual choice is not checked , the GTM PLC VW will be locked on the chosen GSM operator. If this operator is no longer available, the GTM PLC VW will choose automatically another available and authorized operator, but it will get back to the chosen GSM operator if it is again available.

Activate Virtual Wire: The Virtual Wire is a powerful and simple function enabling real time GPRS permanent bi directional and real time connection between your GTM modules and your PC. It will enable the following actions: - Programming, programming modification - Real time value monitoring on www-unwired-monitoring.com - Analog/Digital Input/Output, parameter status - Firmware update* - Parameter modifications - and more... * Done under special conditions. If the user wishes to use the Virtual Wire, check the Virtual Wire check box. If it is not done, the user must fill the fields for APN, IP, USER and PASS settings. This setting information is available by the GSM operator chosen for the SIM card used in the GTM PLC VW. In most cases, the IP is 0.0.0.0, the USER and PASS are blank (leave it empty), but in any case, these settings must be checked with your GSM operator. Once the fields are filled up, the user must apply this setting to the GTM PLC VW by clicking the APPLY button, then test the Virtual Wire by clicking on the TEST button. A message box will come saying if the test is successful or not. If not, please check the settings again. A check box “Enable to send a copy of each SMS to the server” can be check in order to send a copy of every SMS, previously sent to the destination, on your account on www.unwired-monitoring.com. Test Virtual Wire: After filling up APN, IP, USER and PASS push on Test Virtual Wire in order to check if all the GSM operator GPRS setting are correct, if not please by sure to have the right settings. IMEI, copy and past the IMEI number during the registration of your module on www.unwired-monitoring.com.

Tab SMS

Add signal quality: By checking the check box, on every SMS a signal quality message will be added representing the signal quality in %. Add credit: By checking the check box, on every SMS a credit status message will be added showing the remaining amount of credit on the prepaid SIM card. (Only valid for prepaid SIM card and if this service is available). A field is reserve for the credit string and it is specific for every GSM operator, please ask you operator for this information. Example: Swisscom. The string is *130#, therefore the field must be filled with *130#

Enter numbers: This field is reserved to enter a destination number. Then clicking on the ADD button of the corresponding CB to add this number to the list of destination for this CB. The list is unlimited but must stay inside reasonable numbers. Each time the ADD button is clicked the menu list Add dest. number and destination menu list of the corresponding input is filled with this number. Anytime the user can delete the number by clicking the DEL button. A destination can be any email. Just program, as destination in the destination number field, the email where the SMS will be sent. Example: myemail@myserver.com PS: This email destination function can only work i f the Virtual Wire is activated. A destination can be the SMS server on www.unwired-monitoring.com. The user will choose in the menu Destination “SMS SERVER” and click on ADD button to add the SMS server as destination for the corresponding input. CBname: Name of the CB Message: Text message when the alarm appears. Destination: Destination phone number where the SMS will be sent. SMS SERVER as destination. The SMS Message will be sent to AXELPROD SMS server. Register to www.unwired-monitoring.com and enter the SIM card number working with the GTM in the right field under menu “MODULES”. Then, under the menu “SMS” will appear the SMS. (free service) SAVE and DELETE: save or delete any CB. CW name: Enter here the name of the CW used.

This tab enables the user to TEST the ALPHA 2 XL CB and CW.

Tab Datalogger

The user can choose which CB or CW will be part of the Data sent to www.unwired-monitoring.com through the Virtual Wire. Any chosen CB or CW must be previously specified as explained ch. 2.1 (create a CB list, create a CW list). These data will be sent every period of time with a specified duration, if this duration is let at 0, the sending will never stop.

Tab Spy

This tab is used to spy the module during programming and functioning. For troubleshooting the user will have to save this window using the Save to file button and send it to AXELPROD technical support. Clear button will clear everything inside the spy window. Pause button allows to have a look inside the spy window. Once everything is programmed, click on Restart module. At this moment, the user can spy the module functioning if it works correctly according to its programming.

Tab Firmware

This tab will tell the user if the GTM PLC VW is up-to-date or not. If not, the user will be able to upgrade the firmware by clicking on Update now.

Menu Connection Through this menu, the user can Connect to or Disconnect from the GTM PLC VW once the cable connection procedure is done, see ch. 2.2.4. Quit will kill the GTM PLC VW GTM PROGRAMMER window and disable the com port.

Menu Progamming Read programming from file: Through this menu, the user can load previously saved programming file. Save programming to file: Through this menu, the user can save a programming file. Read programming from GTM: Through this menu, the user can load programming from the GTM PLC VW. Save programming to GTM: Through this menu, the user can save the programming in the GTM PLC VW. Clear programming form: Through this menu, the user can erase all programming fields.

Menu Option Language: Choice for the language. Simulation mode: By enabling the simulation menu, the user will be able to test the module using the spy/programming cable and the spy window, the SMS will be displayed and simulated (not sent). PS: We strongly recommend making at least one alarm SMS test at the end of the SMS simulation testing procedure with this option disabled in order to be sure that the GTM PLC VW is not in simulation mode anymore.

Menu Help About: This menu will give the software version. New spy window: Clicking this menu will create an additional spy window.

2.2.4 Spécial functions The goal of this section is to describe special functions of the GTM PLC VW :

GSM Signal quality on the ALPHA 2XL screen It is possible to get on the ALPHA 2XL screen the GSM signal quality. See on http://www.axelprod.net/prod_gtmplc_vw.php to dowload the example. By the means of a Counter FB and its « CurrentCount » value, it is possible to display the Signal quality, see the example underneath:

The « CurrentCount » of B03 must set set to CW99 and the « Count » must be programmed at 100. The GTM PLC VW will automatically update the « Current Count » level to the signal quality in %.

Update a CW value by the means of a SMS and the CW name It is possible to update a CW value by the means of a SMS and its name programmed during the CW name programming (see Tab SMS, CW Name ) Example: The name given for CW01 is THRESHOLD. With the following SMS, the CW01 value will be 14566 : THRESHOLD =14566 Example of reading the CW01 value: With the following SMS, a returned SMS will be: THRESHOLD? Sms returned : THRESHOLD =14566

Call function to run a process It is possible to run a process on the ALPHA 2 XL by through a call. The user simply call the SIM card number of the GTM PLC VW (wait until the GTM hang up your call by itself) and the GSM unit will write 1 on CW98 (Current Count of the a Counter FB). An example of the Calling function is available on http://www.axelprod.net/prod_gtmplc_vw.php

- Create a counter FB and add the “Current Count” of this Counter FB at CW98. - Program on this FB for “Number of count”: 1. - Connect the Counter output to the CL (Clear input). After each call the result would be a pulse generated on the Counter output. Important notice: For security reasons, the calling number must be programmed on the SIM card number of the GTM PLC VW, otherwise no process can be generated.

2.3 Virtual Wire The Virtual Wire is a powerful and simple function enabling real time GPRS permanent bi directional connection between your GTM modules (or your application) and your PC. The Virtual Wire is a tunnel where all information can be send to your application or send from your application to your PC. After turning on the GTM modules equipped with the new feature Virtual Wire, a permanent link is established between your application and your PC enabling all kind of actions, such as: - Programming, programming modification - Real time following, surveillance and value monitoring on http://www.unwired-monitoring.com - Analog/Digital Input/Output direct access. - Firmware update - Parameter modifications - and more... Thanks to the Virtual Wire, the GSM-GPRS cost will be strongly reduced due to its permanent connection. In fact, the connection is kept alive by the GTM modules saving disconnection and connection costs allowing the users to make actions on their applications at very low cost and in real time.

2.3.1 How to start using the Virtual Wire By the GTM PLC VW PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE . The user can enable the Virtual Wire by normally programming the GTM PLC VW and all GSM operator settings using the software. When the GTM PLC VW is turned on and after the booting time, the GTM will automatically be connected to the Virtual Wire.

By sending an SMS . This way, the user can install the GTM PLC VW on site as it is, without any programming, then he will send the SMS from his office. The SIM card must be previously inserted and the PIN code disabled. The SMS syntax can be obtained as follow: Example using Swisscom GPRS settings: (ask your GSM operator for the settings) APN: gprs.swisscom.ch IP: 0.0.0.0 (usually 0.0.0.0) USER: “” (usually blank) PASS: “” (usually blank) SMS syntax: GPRS=gprs.swisscom.ch/0.0.0.0/no/no If USER and PASS are blank, “no” must be written in the SMS (case sensitive). If the settings are correct, the user will receive a SMS to confirm that the GTM PLC VW is connected to the Virtual Wire.

2.4 Turning on the GTM PLC VW

2.4.1 Placing the GTM PLC VW on the ALPHA 2XL contr oller

Any manipulations on the GTM PLC VW, IR-PCB or the ALPHA 2 XL controller must be done properly protected against Electrical Surge Discharges (ESD). This section reference ALPHA 2 XL controller manual: Technical manual. First the user must insert the SIM card in its holder following the drawing on the GTM PLC VW PCB.

The SIM card can be inserted before or after the programming, but must not be in any case inserted or removed when the GTM PLC VW is powered ON. The SIM card should not have any SMS in its memory. If it is the case, the user will have to erase them using a standard cell phone or they will be erase automatically by the GTM PLC.

SIM PIN CODE The user has the choice between two PIN code situations: 1) The user inserts a SIM card with PIN code disabl ed In this case it is not necessary to program the PIN code in the programmer software. The GTM PLC VW will operate with a SIM card with PIN code disabled all time. 2) The user insert a SIM card with PIN code enabled In this case the user must program the PIN code through the GTM PLC VW programmer in order to use the GTM PLC VW. During operation the GTM will enter the PIN code but will not disable it.

Insert the IR-PCB inside the ALPHA 2 XL controller matching the male connector with the ALPHA 2 XL female connector:

Be sure to properly insert the IR-PCB in a horizontal position Slide the GTM PLC VW extension module with its housing as it is explained in the ALPHA 2 XL controller manual. The user might have to lift slightly the back of the GTM PLC VW while sliding it in order to prevent any damage on the SIM card and the circuitry. As it is almost in, just give a final push to plug the housing on the ALPHA 2 XL controller. Connect the power cable to the GTM PLC VW right terminal (+ on T1 and the GND on T2) and turn power on. If the Spy cable is connected, the user might see the task process done by the GTM PLC VW, (see ch. 2.5.2)

2.4.2 GTM PLC VW and ALPHA 2 XL controller functioning after turning ON After turning on the GTM PLC VW and the ALPHA 2 XL controller, the following scheme explains the functioning of the whole system.

The GTM PLC VW needs a booting time in order to execute tasks such as loading the user programming, setting up the GSM, etc… Once the system is ready, the GTM PLC VW start by scanning the CBXX for any change in order to send alarm SMS. It will also place SMS to be sent in the buffer, checking the SIM card for any incoming SMS, scanning data logging for the Virtual Wire.

2.4.3 Two GTM PLC VW working together It is possible to make two (or more) GTM PLC VW working together through the GSM network. GTM PLC VW 1 could send SMS command to the GTM PLC VW 2 (or inversely) in order to react to this command or to run a process. The only requirement to respect in order to do so, is to program the SMS message that will be sent from GTM PLC VW 1 to GTM PLC VW 2 with a “*” at the end of the SMS. When the SMS with the “*” at its end is received by the GTM PLC VW 2, it will not send a “OK” back by SMS to GTM PLC VW 1, this will avoid SMS jam between the two GTM PLC VW.

After an event on GTM PLC VW 1, a SMS command is generated from GTM PLC VW 1 to GTM PLC VW 2 in order to turn GTM PLC VW 2 output 6 to ON: CB01 is used on GTM PLC VW 1. CB01 message from OFF to ON: CW06=220* CB01 destination: GTM PLC VW 2 SIM card number

AXELPROD strongly recommend a human intervention or control in that process when two GTM PLC VW must work together. For example a second destination, or an other CBXX, can be programmed on GTM PLC VW 1 and a digital FB (CBXX) can be connected to GTM PLC VW 2 DOUT6 in order to send a SMS to a destination when DOUT6 is turn on or off on GTM PLC VW 2. Do not add command at the end of the SMS if you use “*”

2.5 Trouble shooting

2.5.1 En utilisant les fichiers du GTM PLC VW et ce ux de l’ALPHA 2 XL (Recherche basique)

For trouble shooting report the user can reach the GTM PLC VW support of AXELPROD using the email address support@axelprod.ch. The user must joint the following files and information with the email:

− The programming file. The programming file can be obtained by exporting the programming to a text file using the extension file .txt. To get this file, use the GTM PLC VW programming software following the description ch. Menu/Save PROG to file.

− The VLS file. The VLS is the ALPHA 2XL programming file issued from the AL-PCS/WIN-E2 programming software from MITUSUBISHI.

− Serial number, IMEI, GTM PLC VW firmware version issued from the the GTM PLC VW programming software after having made the connection to the GTM PLC VW, File/Connection to GTM and tab start.

These file have to be jointed to the user email in order to help AXELPROD support to solve the problem.

2.5.2 Using spy cable In order to spy the GTM PLC VW, just plug the programming/spy cable on the GTM PLC VW and run the AXELPROD GTM SPY SOFTWARE. GTM SPY SOFTWARE at http://www.axelprod.net/

Once the trouble is appearing, the user might save the window and send it to the technical support of AXELPROD (support@axelprod.ch) or your nearest dealer. PS: Never let the spy cable on the GTM PLC VW without the SPY SOFTWARE activated.

Limitation Warranty Each GTM product is warranted to be free from detects in material and workmanship under normal us. The warranty period is one year and begins on the date code marked underneath the module or by the SMS command <#V>. Parts, product repairs and services are warranted for 90 days. This warranty extends only to the original buyer or end-user customer or a GTM authorized seller and does not apply, in AXELProd’s opinion, if the module has been misused, altered, neglected or damaged by accident or abnormal conditions of operation or handling. AXELprod warrants that software will operate substantially in accordance with its functional specifications for one year. GTM authorized sellers shall extend this warranty on new and unused products to end-user customers only but have no authority to extend a greater or different warranty on behalf of AXELprod. Warranty support is available if product is purchased directly from AXELProd or through a AXELProd authorized sellers outlet or Buyer has paid the applicable international price. AXELProd reserves the right to invoice Buyer for importation costs or repair/replacement parts when product purchased in one country is submitted for repair in another country.
