Boundaries

History of Telangana
● After India’s independence, Nizam of
Hyderabad state was not interested to
accede to India. The state of Hyderabad was
annexed on 17 Sept 1948 by military
operation called “Operation Polo“.
● The Telangana rebellion was a originally a
peasant revolt which was supported by the
communists between 1946 and 1951 in
Hyderabad.
● Since December 2009, the Telangana
movement intensified. Telangana was
separated from Andhra Pradesh on 2 June
2014 to become the 29th state of India.
● भारत की स्वतंत्रता के बाद, हैदराबाद के निजाम
भारत में प्रवेश करने के लिए इचु्छक नही ं था।
हैदराबाद राज्य को 17 ऑपरेशन 1948 को
"ऑपरेशि पोलो" नामक सैन्य अलभयान द्वारा रद्द
कर लदया गया था।
● तेिंगाना लवद्रोह मूि रूप से एक लकसान लवद्रोह था

Geography
● Telangana is situated on Deccan plateau in the
peninsular part of India. This region is drained by
two main rivers Godavari and Krishna.
● 69 % of Krishna river and 79 % of Godavari’s
cachment area is in Telangana region.
● Godavari is considered as sacred river in South
India and is also called as Dakshin Ganga (Ganga
of South).
● It is semi arid area and climate is mainly hot and
dry.
● Mahboobnagar is largest district of Telangana by
area. Ranga Reddy is the largest district by
population.
● तेिंगाना भारत के प्रायद्वीपीय भाग में डेक्कि पठार पर
स्थथत है। यह के्षत्र दो मुख्य नलदयों गोदावरी और कृष्णा
द्वारा संलचत लकया िाता है।

● The Telangana Legislative Assembly election was held in Telangana on 7 December 2018.
● The incumbent Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Indian National Congress, Telangana Jana Samithi,
and Telugu Desam Party are considered to be the main contestants in the election.
● Four opposition parties in the state, the INC, the TJS, the TDP and the CPI have announced the
formation of a 'Mahakootami' (Grand Alliance).
● However the Maha Kootami could not win a majority. Ultimately, the TRS won and formed the
government once again.
Major Dams
● Nagarjunasagar Dam: Nagarjuna Sagar Dam is built across the Krishna river, located between Nalgonda
district of Telangana state and Guntur district of Andhra Pradesh.
● Srisailam-Dam: Srisailam Dam is also built across the Krishna River at the border of Mahabubnagar
District in Telangana and Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh.
● Sriram-Sagar: Sriram Sagar is the name of reservoir formed by the Pochampad Dam across the Godavari
river near Nirmal town in Telangana.
● Nizam Sagar: Nizam Sagar Dam is constructed across the Manjira River between the in village of
Achampet and Banjapalle in Nizamabad district.
● Manair Dam: Lower Manair Dam is one of the three major irrigation project constructed across the Manair
river in Karimnagar District of state.
● Jurala Dam: Priyadarshini Jurala Project or Jurala Project is situated near the village of Kuravapur in
Mahbubnagar district.
● Sripada Sagar: Sripada sagar yellampally project is fourth largest dam project on the Godavari river in
Telangana state.
● Koil Sagar: Koilsagar Dam is built on minor tributary of the Krishna river, located near Koilsagar village in
Mahabubnagar district.
General Facts
● The economy is mainly driven by agriculture. Rice is the major and staple food crop of the state.
● Ramagundam Power plant is the major Power station of the state operated by NTPC having
installed capacity of 2600 MW.
● Warangal has a domestic airport which was established in the year 1930 during Nizam period.
● The state is also the main administrative centre of many Indian defence aero-space and research
labs like Bharat Dynamics Limited, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory, Defence
Research and Development Organisation and Defence Research and Development
Laboratory.
● Black soil is also found in certain parts of the area.
● Char Minar which is the iconic face of Telangana was built by Quli Qutub Shah in year 1591. It is
believed that it was built as a memoir after eradication of plague from the city.
● 1000 (Thousand) Pillar temple which is located in Hanamkonda of Warangal district is famous
religious tourist place. This temple was built by King Rudra Deva of Kakatiya dynasty in 11th
century.

● Telangana is largely rural, with roughly two-fifths of the state’s population classified as urban.
● Hyderabad accounts for more than half of those in urban areas.
● The state’s other main cities include Warangal, Nizamabad, Mahbubnagar, and Adilabad.
● Charminar, Golconda Fort, Qutb Shahi Tombs, Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma
Palace, Birla Mandir and Nagarjun sagar, Bhongir Fort, Warangal Fort, Khammam Fort
are some of the monuments in and around Hyderabad.
General Facts
● Meenakshi Sundareshwar temple of Madurai is devoted to Parvati (Meenakshi) and Shiva
(Sundareswar). This temple is also the iconic symbol of Telangana. It consists of 14
gopurams (gateways) and centered garbhgriha. This temple in the current form was built
by Vishwanath Nayak of Nayak Dynasty in late 16th century.

● Bhadrachalam Temple is a Lord Sree Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple in

● Charminar- The Charminar, constructed in 1591, is a monument and mosque located
in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. The landmark has become a global icon of Hyderabad,
listed among the most recognized structures of India.
● Golkonda: Golkonda is a citadel and fort in Southern India and was the capital of the
medieval sultanate of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, is situated 11 kilometres west of
Hyderabad.
● Birla Mandir, Hyderabad: Built on a 280 feet (85 m) high hillock called Naubath Pahad
on a 13 acres (53,000 m2) plot in Hyderabad.
● Basara: Gnana Saraswati Temple (Goddess of Knowledge) is located on the banks of
the river Godavari in Adilabad District
● Kuntala waterfall of Adilabad is the famous tourist spot.
