TVS diodes appeared in the early 80’s as the first practical semiconductor solution to surge protection.

In late 80’s and early 90’s, the SIDAC technology of thyristor products has been identified as a candidate for the primary surge protection device that telephone industry searched for.

SIDAC thyristor has found a new market needs in mid 90’s because of fast growth in Internet, multimedia, computer, auto industry and consumer electronics with surge sensitive circuitry.

Currently there are more governing agencies of health, safety, consumer and others are mandating the requirement of surge protection on all electronic equipment under Transient Immunity Standards.
