TED (Tenders Electronic Daily) is the online version of the 'Supplement to the Official Journal' of the EU, dedicated to European public procurement.

TED publishes 460 000 calls for tenders per year, for about 420 billion euro of value.

I would start by registering, which is completely free.

Click on Register here at the bottom of the page.

Just complete the required fields of the registration form and you will be sent an email to verify your account.

Ok so what are the main search criteria

You can search on – Country – Contract Type of Document – CPV Code.

How do I see the actual

search options?

Just click on the green plus sign to the right hand side of the search box.

So lets start with expanding the options for the country field.

Here you can see you have the option to search the whole EU – European Union.

Or you can click on the green box plus sign and then select specific countries.

For example if you are interested in Belgium and Finland select these countries and click OK.

Ok so I have selected Belgium and Finland. What should I be looking for next.

To filter by contract type click on the Contract green plus sign.

Works contracts are related to construction and include building completion work. Examples of these are contracts for construction of roads, bridges and railways, buildings, demolition work and installation of plumbing, heating and electrical equipment.

Supply contracts relate to the purchase of goods or products. This may include siting, Installation or other related services and can be for the purchase, lease, rental or hire Purchase of products. Examples of these are Contracts for ICT equipment, stationery and office furniture.

Services contracts are awarded for services of every description. Examples of these are contracts for civil engineering, facilities and management services and Legal services.

There are many different types of documents.

Organisations may give advance notice of planned procurements through the publication of a PIN (when the PIN is not being used as a call for competition). This can allow potential bidders to prepare themselves to bid in time for the contracts announced.

Organisations, like Local authorities, may Publish a PIN with call for competition, which permits suppliers to express interest and respond to an Invitation to Tender; has more detail than a PIN not used as a call for competition.

Contract notice – Invitation to Tender and Contract award notice which is a contract already awarded.

I am interested in PIN notices, contracts notices and contract award notices, so I will select all four options.

Contracts award notices provide valuable market information. They tell you who has won a contract which might lead to potential sub contract opportunities.

You mentioned CPV Code. What is a CPV Code?

CPV code stands for common procurement vocabulary code, but in simple terms it is a dedicated coding system to define products and services.

You can see the list of topics here and if you click on the green box on the left hand side for more specific options. under “materials and products” you should be able to drill down to find “Furniture”.

You can add specific words to your search criteria in the “full text” box. For example why don’t you put in “office furniture”.

Notices are presented in a list defined by the search criteria chosen. Click on the document to access more information on the tender.

Great, but what happens if there isn’t anything relevant to my business, do I have to keep checking it every day?

Sounds useful, so how do I set this up then?

You can set-up your profile to be alerted of new tenders based on your search criteria. New tenders matching your search criteria will generate an email alert.

Click on the menu option “Save search to search profiles”.

Enter a search profile name. For example “Office Furniture Search”.

You may prefer to have alerts daily or weekly, whatever suits your working schedule best.

You then click on ‘Set as news alert’ and choose how often you want to receive the alert.

Remember to save changes. That’s your alert set-up.

You will be alerted, by email, to any tenders which are posted and match your search criteria/saved search profile.
