“Change is inevitable.
Change is constant.”
-- Benjamin Disraeli
Life stays true to this famous
quote, and so does our
continual evolution as a supply
chain partner within the
Endress+Hauser Group of
companies. In addition to
performing our duties as a
North American production
center with association to local
E+H sales centers, we continue
to support our valued ISI and
Wedgewood Analytical partners
on a global scale.
Wedgewood Technology,
“Tech Times”, and ISI’s
“Sense”.
This first edition is part of a
plan that will bring many more
to come. The contents will
certainly be driven by current
events and production center
messages, but more importantly
it’s to be driven by what you
want to hear.
We look forward to serving all
of our stakeholders and invite
feedback of any kind at any
time.

This newsletter is written and
focused for the later.
The main goals of this quarterly
bulletin by e-mail are: (1) to be
more open and proactive with
our communication and, (2) to
bring analytical products,
services and knowledge into a
better understanding with our
customers.
The naming of our newsletter,
“TechSens”, was based on the
winning contest submission
from Toum Adem in our
administration department. It
combines and pays tribute to
the previous newsletters of

Dear Valued Customer:
Since the merger between Innovative
Sensors Inc. (ISI) and Wedgewood
Technology Inc. to become Wedgewood
Analytical Inc. in 2003, there have been
major changes to the combined
organization:
• the consolidation of operations
• the realignment of former sales channels
• and the relocation into a state of the art
facility in Anaheim
Throughout all the changes one constant
remained: Our dedication to you, the
customer!
As Wedgewood Analytical we have been
able to offer you the strength of the small
company, the competence of a core
business – Product Center for liquid
analytical measuring solutions - and
subsidiary with direct relationship to our
headquarters, Endress+Hauser Conducta
GmbH, in Gerlingen, Germany. Within
the renaming we will be integrated into
the Endress+Hauser Group, a private
owned family business. Their worldwide
presence and financial power will provide
us with needed support and access to
more resources within the
Endress+Hauser Group like Research &
Development and Logistics.
Starting in 2008 we have the opportunity
to maintain and build upon the unique
strengths that made each legacy company
an industry leader, while recognizing the
association to our parent organization. To
indicate this strategic alignment our new
and final name becomes Endress+Hauser
Conducta Inc. effective January 1, 2008.
For our OEM and Label customers we still
maintain ISI and Wedgewood Analytical as
well known and established brand names
within the market.
Please update your databases with the new
company name; our mailing address, phone
and fax numbers and banking information
have not changed.
The Endress+Hauser Conducta Inc.
Newsletter will inform you on a quarterly
basis about our activities and news at
Anaheim, useful Sales and Service
information and best practices for different
industries as well. Your comments and
feedback to our newsletter are very
welcome and highly appreciated!
Have a successful and prosperous year
2008. Good selling!
Wedgewood Analytical announces name change
One measure of a successful company is its’
commitment to quality and a quality
management system. Here at Anaheim
Production Center we have been very busy
with pushing that commitment and in
verifying results of that commitment. One
method of verification has been audits by
third parties, and we have had several
during the last year.
We have successfully passed an ATEX audit
for our explosion proof hardware and our
management system. We have gone
through four different FM audits, a CSA
audit, and again we have passed all of these
audits with no major findings and several
with no findings at all.
The big one for APC Anaheim was our ISO
Surveillance in December which was really
a test of our Management System and
commitment here at Anaheim. We were
successful in passsing this audit with no
major findings and only one minor finding
documented.
Our Auditor had some encouraging things
to say regarding Anaheim Productions:
"Good focus on customer requirements and
employee knowledge of their processes”,
were noted as strengths during the audit. It
is the opinion of the auditor that top
management is very committed to ensure
the Quality Management System continues
to be improved and maintained.
We are always striving to maintain and
improve our systems, this is a major benefit
to Anaheim and to our Customers around
the world.

Globally, Endress+Hauser has tended to
focus analytical products on a relatively
narrow range of industries. This is certainly
true in North America where Water and
BioPharma has dominated the
Endress+Hauser Conducta Inc. focus. In
particular, the optical (WA) products and to
some extent EChem products (pH,
Conductivity, etc…), have had limited
exposure outside of the traditional core
industries. This presents excellent
expanded growth opportunities.
For example, why should optical products
be limited to the BioPharma and Beverage
Markets when there is potential in other
industries? Optical products can be used for
many diverse applications such as heat
exchanger leakage monitoring or
controlling water concentration in Ethanol.
The same applies to EChem. Industrial
Waste Water, for example, is everywhere,
and equipment tends to be less price
sensitive compared with Muni and
Drinking Water Markets. MRO
(Maintenance and Replacement) business is
all over the place if we just look for it!
Our local representatives and direct sales
personnel are catching on quickly and are
already finding new and exciting
applications. Venturing into new industries
and applications will not only increase
analytical sales, but also helps to sell other
products! The next time you are at a
customer, try to get a tour of their lab. See
what type of technologies they are using to
verify field instrumentation or processes.
You may be surprised.
No matter what happens with the global,
political and economic landscape, the
pressure for operating cleaner plants with
fewer resources is not going to diminish
any time soon.
Last year, Endress+Hauser Conducta grew
faster than our major competitor. Imagine
what we can do if we branch out!!!
If you have questions about a specific
product, industry, or application, please do
not hesitate to contact Anaheim. We look
forward to your feedback and questions.

Application Note - To optimize the
control of a centrifuge for the removal
of solids, a solids monitor is needed to
measure both the inlet load and outlet
clarity.
Major pharmaceutical companies require
control of centrifuge to ensure clarity of
product after solids removal.
Many pharmaceutical processes start with
fermentation of solid organisms like yeast
or bacteria. After fermentation, the product
is extracted from the organisms and during
that process, the liquids and solids are
separated using a centrifuge.
During centrifugation of the mixture the
solids from the influent liquid build up in
the centrifuge bowl. The build up continues
until the bowl is full. At this point, further
separation is impossible with the removal of
the solids from the centrifuge.
Application challenges
Two methods are used to control clarity of
the centrifuge discharge.
Manual: periodically, or when the
centrifuge is full of solids, a discharge is
initiated to clear the bowl of solids. This
method does not provide a good quality
clarified stream and can put an undue load
on further clarification and filtration
equipment downstream.
Timed: While the centrifuge is in operation,
the bowl is regularly discharged on a timed
basis.
This is the most widely used method of
keeping the centrifuge clear but does lead
to loss of liquid and/or product in the solids
stream. To minimize the loss of liquid,
a short, rather than a full, discharge cycle is
employed. In many cases, however, a short
cycle does not completely clear the bowl.
Solids steadily build up and efficiency of the
centrifuge is affected.
Solution
By using online measurement both on the
in- and outlet of the centrifuge an
automated discharge operation can be
obtained for higher product yield and
minimized product loss. Typically the solids
level will be high in the beginning of
the solids removal and then fading
out during the end of the batch.
Using a Wedgewood Analytical OUSAF12
solids monitor measuring and controlling
the inlet solids/liquid mixture to the
centrifuge a constant feed can be obtained
and overloading of the bowl can be
prevented. Measuring the clarity of the
Centrate with a Wedgewood Analytical
solids monitor with extended range will not
only provide the plant with continuous data
for controlling the discharge of the
centrifuge but also with continuous quality
monitoring of the process liquid. On the
outlet of the centrifuge small air bubbles
will be formed in the process liquid. To
prevent these bubbles from interfering with
measurement a constant pressure valve is
recommended.
Instrument description
All Wedgewood Analytical in-line monitors
can be SIP/CIP in-line. The sensors are all
made in a Ultra-hygienic resilient stainless
steel flow cell design available with material
finish of 16µinch (0.4µm) Ra, in sizes from
¼” up to 4” tri-clamp and withstand up to
2900 psi (200 bar) depending upon
process connection.
Available with explosion proof design for
both FM and ATEX classification.
Measurement range for the standard solids
monitor typically starts at 0.5% solids. The
exact measurement range depends upon
the application. For the outlet the extended
range version will cover as low as 20 ppm.
