TECHNOLOGY FOR A CLEANER WORLDMonolith is a next-generation chemical company that believes technology will create the path
to environmental transformation. Through innovation and imagination, we are developing new,
economically sustainable, technology-forward ways to make everyday products cleaner.
WE USE RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY TO TRANSFORM NATURAL GAS
INTO CARBON BLACK AND HYDROGEN TO ENSURE OUR CUSTOMERS
HAVE SUSTAINABLE AND HIGH-PERFORMING MATERIALS FOR THE
PRODUCTS THEY PRODUCE.
Environmentally TransformativeOur innovative plasma process uses renewable electricity, creating a combustion-free
process with a substantially reduced environmental footprint. As a result, Monolith was
able to build the first new carbon black facility on U.S. soil in over 50 years.
Economically SustainableMonolith is the first company to find a way to make the plasma process work
on a commercial scale, sustainably and efficiently, since the first patent was
filed more than 100 years ago.
Technologically AdvantagedMonolith creates new, innovative, responsible technology that disrupts
antiquated, unsustainable and environmentally harmful industries.
The Monolith ProcessConventional carbon black is produced by burning decant oil or coal tar, releasing large amounts of
greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. At Monolith, we have developed and perfected a new technology
that converts natural gas into high-purity carbon black and hydrogen. This clean, environmentally
responsible process creates zero local emissions and significantly reduced life-cycle emissions overall.
It is also highly efficient with a greater than 97% conversion of the natural-gas feedstock into solid carbon.
Carbon Black and Hydrogen Production ReimaginedMonolith’s Olive Creek 1 (OC1) facility in Hallam, Nebraska, USA, is the first commercial-
grade carbon black facility using the plasma process. Its initial production capacity will
be 14,000 tons per year. When our Olive Creek 2 (OC2) facility is completed, our total
carbon black production capacity will increase to 194,000 tons per year.
The natural gas feedstock is superheated by electricity, so there is no flame, creating a CO2-free process.
1
This heat breaks the bonds between the carbon and hydrogen in the natural gas molecule. The separated carbon atoms and pairs of hydrogen atoms move through the chamber.
2
As the carbon atoms move through the process, they begin to cluster together. We control both the surface area and how the carbon molecules cluster to form various grades of carbon black.
3
The carbon black and hydrogen leave the chamber and enter the main-unit filter. From here, the clean hydrogen co-product is directed to its end users while the carbon black is finished in a traditional process.

MONOLITH: MAKING EMISSIONS-FREE, AFFORDABLE HYDROGEN A REALITY TODAYLong considered one of the keys to a sustainable future for the planet, hydrogen has been
an enticing resource. However, the CO2 emissions generated, along with the costs required
to produce sustainable hydrogen made the effort seem moot. Until now.
THEN, MONOLITH CAME ALONG AND TURNED CLEAN HYDROGEN
PRODUCTION ON ITS HEAD.
Globally, traditional hydrogen production generates over 830 million metric tons of carbon dioxide
emissions annually – equivalent to the CO2 output of the entire country of Germany. Through
an innovative and proprietary breakthrough in commercial-scale methane pyrolysis production,
Monolith is now manufacturing emissions-free, economically sustainable hydrogen using 100%
renewable energy. Monolith’s competitively priced hydrogen meets the industry standard for
the cleanest hydrogen available today.
Today, hydrogen is used in ammonia for fertilizer, transportation fuel, desulfurization of fuel and
energy generation and storage. While the reality of emissions-free hydrogen production promises
to spur these industries to further innovation, it also opens the door to a myriad
of potential new hydrogen energy uses and innovations.

CLEAN AMMONIA FOR A CLEANER TOMORROWWithout ammonia, the planet could not grow the nutrient-rich food required to sustain our
ever-growing population. Yet, traditional ammonia production accounts for great than 1% of
the world’s greenhouse gas emissions (equal to those of the United Kingdom).

AMMONIA IS JUST THE BEGINNING. MONOLITH CONTINUES TO
EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ITS HYDROGEN TO HELP CREATE
A CLEANER, CARBON-FREE TOMORROW.
Ammonia produced by Monolith will change that. Using our proprietary methane pyrolysis
process, we will create 275,000 tons per year of carbon-free anhydrous ammonia when our
OC2 facility is complete. Because Monolith sits in the heart of America’s Corn Belt, our locally
produced clean ammonia will reduce dependency on the 1.75 million tons of ammonia
imported each year to grow the food that helps feed the world.
CARBON BLACKCarbon black is one of the oldest manufactured products in the world, dating back four
thousand years. Today, it is one of the top-50 materials used across the planet, serving as
an integral component of many everyday products. Because of our innovative plasma process,
Monolith is the only producer of environmentally responsible carbon black.
A very fine, very black powder, carbon black has a molecular
and crystalline structure similar to graphite. It consists of
carbon particles (typically 10–50 nm) fused into aggregates
(typically 50–250 nm).
The Material of Everyday Life
As one of the top materials in use today, carbon black has become such a large part of daily life
around the world that it largely goes unnoticed. Here are just a few of the products that carbon
black helps make better if not possible:
High-Performance Coatings and Adhesives
Toners and Printing Ink
Tires (Innerliner, Carcass, Tread)
Plastics
Batteries and Conductive Inks
Mechanical Rubber Goods
PURE, HIGH-PERFORMING CARBON BLACK While Monolith’s commitment to creating new technology for producing environmentally sustainable
carbon blacks is redefining the industry, one thing remains unchanged–performance.
Multiple Industries and ApplicationsMonolith’s carbon blacks are developed with surface area and structure combinations that offer
rubber compounders the versatility to engineer compounds to their specific requirements to meet
myriad demands for high-performing carbon blacks within and across key industries and products.

Monolith’s environmental story is unequaled in
the carbon black industry. Our proprietary process
reduces greenhouse-gas emissions (GHG) by 97%
compared to the incumbent process. This results in
a reduction of 500,000 tons of CO2 per year. Today,
Monolith’s OC1 production facility runs on 100%
renewable electricity. Monolith is partnering with
the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) to create
part of the infrastructure needed to ensure that the
electricity required to operate Monolith’s OC1 and
OC2 facilities remains 100% renewable.
COMMITTED TO ESGPROFIT AND LOSS. MARKET TRENDS. SALES FORECASTS. THESE ARE ALL IMPORTANT
MEASURES OF A BUSINESS. BUT THEY ONLY SCRATCH THE SURFACE OF A COMPANY’S
REAL VALUE. AT MONOLITH, WE BELIEVE THAT MAINTAINING OR EXCEEDING GLOBAL
ENVIRONMENTAL, SOCIAL AND GOVERNANCE (ESG) STANDARDS IS NOT ONLY GOOD
FOR THE PLANET, BUT IT’S ALSO GOOD FOR BUSINESS.
Monolith has set forth a vision for a company that will grow to become the social model for peer
companies across our industry and around the world. This will be led by a vision of diversity and
inclusion across a broad spectrum of ethnic, gender, age, religious, sexual-orientation and disability
groups. We know we are a better, stronger company when we have a diverse range of perspectives,
ideas and leaders to move us into the future.
When it comes to diversity and inclusion, we expect nothing less from the members of our supply chain,
partners and vendors who choose to do business with Monolith. Also, we expect them to adhere to our
high standards when it comes to employee relations and safety, as well as fair labor, procurement,
anti-corruption and related practices.
From the company’s inception, Monolith’s governance policies have been some of the best in the
industry. They begin at the top, with the split chairman and CEO positions and a board that includes
experienced, independent directors. The compensation comparisons between the highest and
lowest-paid employees at Monolith fall well within any reasonable equity standard.
