Technology Through The Year

All the different types of technology I have used this year and their uses.

Technologies Used

There was a decent variation when it came to the different types of technology we used in the duration of the course this year, whether it been for the filming of the footage or the editing all the way back to the making of the film posters and the magazine cover.

The main format that all the programmes would have to be compatible with would be apple mac, as the school provided us with the apple mac computers as also they have iMovie which allows for a simple editing software.

There were a vast number of different software programmes I had to use in the duration of the course, such as PowerPoint,Word, and a few different Adobe programmes.

Before the production of the trailer we had to make a flowchart of all the different types of storylines we could use, firstly we used Prezi to make a presentation that would show this, then afterwards we used Gliffy which would show the flowchart in detail. I hadn’t used any of these before so this first experience would help me in the future as in my opinion the presentation on Prezi looked professional and looked great which could help me in making presentations in the future.

Technologies Used

iMovie was the software that I used to edit my footage from the trailer, I had previous experiences with iMovie before, but this year I had a better understanding of it, because I hadn’t realised that you could adjust the colour settings of the footage and the contrast and brightness, also you could add extra video effects that add effects to a certain area of footage, I used this on two specific occasions, firstly I used the video effects on the death scene in the rough interim cut, this darkened the areas of the image and made it look more sad, I used this again on the final cut on the same scene after it had been refilmed, secondly in the final cut I used the clip of the happy memories of the sisters to lighten the image, then this would make it look like a memory or a dream, this was especially useful.

I made my own title on Adobe Fireworks, this would then allow me to make a picture and import it into the iMovie program, it was the only way that I had in mind to make my own title page, then including the billing block and the release date too, I had used Fireworks before but it was developing those skills which allowed for me to make a decent title sequence rather then using a title sequence which was preset.

Technologies Used

Social media plays an important part in our work, Feedback is vital not only for our evaluation and our work but also in the development and improvement of our products, I used such social media sites as Facebook, Youtube and Wordpress, Facebook was used mainly to present work to friends solely for feedback, by posting my work on Facebook which is used by millions of people worldwide, this would let people post comments on my work and then allow me to develop my work by using their comments.

Youtube was important too, it was one of the ways I used to present my work, it allowed me to post videos on a website and then gain comments from friends, by using Youtube this year I had figured out a way to change the format of the file from a m4a to a audio file. This is useful when making a voiceover and when I was using a macbook I could only have a certain version of iMovie, and it only had certain capabilities.

Wordpress is a blogging website that I would post all of my work on, to do this is simple and by using all the other forms of social media sites and Slideshare too, I could then present my work and make it accessible to the world, to my teachers and to the exam board, aldo by using different themes I could then make it look more professional. This year I had to improve the standard of my presentation, to do so I made the pages easily more accessible and available and make ease of access so much easier, this was just some of the feedback I had from my teachers and fellow peers.
