Electrical Data and Sequence of Operation

Sequence of Operation – Return Air Units

Signal from remote control I to AirTrakController D, sets operational parametersfor dampers B and C, and burner. Damperoperation can be manual, building pres-sure or mixed air temperature.

Return air dampers B, and outside airdampers C, are interlocked to movetogether. As one opens, the other closes.As the return air dampers open, allowingmore return air to enter the unit, the out-side air dampers move toward the closedposition, decreasing the amount of outsideair. Pressure sensor and flow station J,senses change in return airflow and signalsAirTrak Controller D.

Modulating gas valve H, regulates gassupply in response to signal from AirTrakController D. AirTrak Controller D, variessignal based on input from room tempera-ture sensor F, discharge temperaturesensor G, and airflow sensor J. Gas valve Hcan provide approximately 4% to 100% ofrated burner capacity.

Guide Specification – Base Unit

Base Bid Sterling model SDFI_____ make-up airunit(s) designed for indoor application. Theunit discharge shall be designed for easyadaptation to external duct work or optionalaccessories. The unit(s) shall be capable ofdelivering ___ cfm at ___ ESP using a ___horsepower (ODP) (TEFC) motor operatingon (208/3/60) (230/3/60) (460/3/60).

Burner SectionThe line burner shall be capable of delivering___BTUH firing on (natural gas) (propane)at an inlet pressure of ___ (inches watercolumn) (PSIG). The standard ETL listed unitwill meet ANSI, FM, and IRI requirements.Both burner and blower shall be compensatedfor an altitude of ___ feet above sea level.Manifold to be located outside of air stream.An observation port shall be located toprovide view of pilot and main flame.

Unit(s) shall be supplied with a wide rangeburner with a modulating turndown ratio of25:1. Adjustable profile plates shall be providedand sized to maintain the require velocity acrossthe line burner. The operation of the burner shallbe programmed through the flame safeguardwith timed prepurge and flame-sensed bymeans of a (flame rod)(ultra violet scanner).

The burner assembly and gas manifold shallbe completely prepiped and factory testedprior to shipment.

The unit shall be controlled by the AirTrakDDC control module with full BACnetcompatibility. Unit shall have the AirTrak(MDT - Modulating Discharge TemperatureControl System)(MRT – Modulating RoomTemperature Control System)(MRT-ProModulating Room Pro Temperature ControlSystem)( MRT-Expert Modulating RoomExpert Temperature Control System). TheAirTrak DDC control system shall include butnot be limited to the following controlsrequired for standard operation:• Electronic time clock with normal, holiday,

and override schedules. (Optional accessoryon MDT or MRT Control Systems).

• Timed freeze protection to prevent heater fromdischarging unheated air into the building.

• Inlet On-Off ductstat which will turn burneroff when inlet temperature equals desireddischarge air temperature as fuel savingsmode.

• On-Off night setback thermostat for loweroperating temperatures in unoccupiedmode as fuel savings mode. (Optionalaccessory on MDT or MRT Control Systems).

UNIT CASINGUnit casing and accessories shall be fabricatedfrom heavy-gauge bright spangled galvanizedsteel suitably reinforced to insure rigidity. Allcasings shall be air tight. Complete accessshall be provided to all components. Thisincludes the blower, burner, and electricalcomponents.

BLOWER SECTIONEach unit shall be supplied with centrifugalforward curve, DWDI fan(s) rated in accor-dance with AMCA standards. The fan or fansshall be mounted on a solid shaft for singleblowers and a hollow shaft for doubleblowers. Shaft designed for a maximumoperating speed not to exceed 75% of its firstcritical speed. Bearings are to be externalheavy-duty industrial prelubricated type.Blowers to be driven by a V-belt package sizedwith a capacity of 25% greater than themotor horsepower. Multiple belt applicationswill be matched sets. Drives are to be (fixed)(adjustable). Maximum outlet velocity _____FPM. Motor to be externally mounted onadjustable slide base. Belt guard shall beprovided for protection.

CONTROL ENCLOSUREThe units(s) shall be supplied with a controlcompartment and all controls mounted withinthis compartment are to be wiredto a numbered terminal strip. All wiringis to be color coded and in accordancewith the NEC. A circuit diagram of theapproved electrical drawing is to be laminatedto the inside of the control cabinet door. Allelectrical componentsshall bear a recognized label.

Unit(s) shall have outside air and return airdampers with modulating actuator controlledby AirTrak DDC control system. The AirTrakDDC control system shall have capability todigitally control the outside air quantity froma nominal minimum of 20% to 100% withintegrated gas valve control at all roomconcentrations of CO2.

The return air inlet shall include a self-calibrating flow measuring station with agrid of velocity pressure probes with spacingno greater than 12” over the entire face ofthe return air opening and sampled everytwo seconds. Samples will be added to atwenty-five point rolling average and thenon to a second rolling average to providesmooth, accurate data that is delivered tothe AirTrak DDC control system everytwo seconds. The DDC control system shallbe capable of electronically displaying thereturn air/outside air ratio within 5%accuracy at all damper positions.

The AirTrak DDC control system shall becapable of controlling mixing dampers in:(Choose One)

Manual Mode: The “Manual” mode allowsmanual positioning of the outside air (O.A.)damper and return air (R.A.) damper bychanging the damper position setpoint.

Mixed Air Temperature Mode: The “MixedAir Temperature” mode shall provideautomatic control of the mixed air tempera-ture by modulating the outside air (O.A.)damper and return air (R.A.) damper tomaintain the mixed air temperature setpoint.As the mixed air temperature increasesabove the setpoint more outside air will beintroduced.

Building Pressure Mode: The “BuildingPressure” mode shall provide automaticbuilding pressure control by modulating theoutside air (O.A.) damper and return air(R.A.) damper to maintain the indoorbuilding pressure setpoint. As the buildingpressure decreases below the setpoint moreoutside air will be introduced.
