Discrimination in gender in our country has existed since its inception. The disparity among the opposite genders has been a cause of social conventions being followed in our country. The sole reason for this biasing is the cultural construct of Indian society which includes the Dowry system or preference for men over women in job opportunities.

Female feticide and sex selective abortion has been practised in our country which reflects the ignorance and inequality of women in our country. The current surveys show that girl child is more likely to be aborted than boy child.

The lack of education in female society of our country has been an important factor. Literacy rate among the females is low compared to males. An important parameter for this discrimination is that Indian parents perceives the girl education as waste of money.

Increasing number of Rape cases and sexual harassment even in the urban parts of our country gives strength to the point about low status of women in our country .

Discrimination against women also contributed to the difference in wage where an average Indian women earn less than Indian men for same occupation and of same level of qualification.

Equal rights are given to women by law of our country but they are practiced in major part of our country where women still do

not have rights to obtain a share of parental property.

Disgraceful acts and statements about women by some important faces of our country has been some of reason why women feel unsafe in our country

Adding to the points, the attitude of men and our society towards women is one the important factor of Gender discrimination in country.

The Indian culture construct has system of dowry in which female family has to pay a hefty price to male family for marrying their daughter .

The dowry conflicts causes in suicides and murders or even setting women on fire which is disguised as suicide or accident.

Survey shows that One women dies in every hour due to Dowry conflicts.

Female feticide is an act of aborting a foetus because it is female. It is one of the major problems we are facing in our country because of its connection with other social convention our cultural construct.

Recent surveys shows that around 10 million female foetuses has been aborted illegally.

Sex determination and sex selective abortion has grown into a industry in the medical profession.

Sexual harassment has been a major problem of India since independence.

Increasing number of rape cases in urban and rural areas is coming out to be a serious threat to women protection.

The estimates shows that a new rape case is reported in every 22 minutes in India.

Also, sources show that rape cases have doubled in last two decades in India.

The national capital Delhi is reported with highest number of rape cases recorded.

Girl education is one the important aspect in raising the low status of women in our country.

However , in our country, the girl education is not considered necessary since it is believed that Girl education is of no use, since one day she has to move to her husband’s family.

There is a wide gender disparity in literacy rate in India with

women literacy rate 65.46% compared to that of 82.14% for men.
