Our Mission Statement
To use digital mediums to communicate the course outline and benefits of the
Digital Communications and Cultures Program in order to attract, excite and entice
current, prospective domestic and international students to enrol in the degree/s.
Current statement for the program:
“The Digital Communication and Culture programs take an interdisciplinary approach to
understanding the changes in information and communication technologies, which
dramatically impact everyday life. The course examines the complex interplay between
technical infrastructures, design practices, policy frameworks, organisational models, cultural
identities, technologies and social power.”
We want to bring this statement to life!
What do we currently have?
• Cute animation / remix – excites people
• Concise information on the course and its aims
• Clear navigation
http://www.arts.usyd.edu.au/departs/digitalcultures/
How can it be improved?
• By DEMONSTRATING remixed creations by students
• This will help COMMUNICATE the purpose and outcomes of the course
• EXCITING remixed media to entice and enthuse prospective domestic
students, international students and current students
• All in a cost-effective manner
END RESULT:
More students enrolled, more resources, more fun!
Isn’t this just for one department?
No…
This is a pilot created for the applicable department, but can easily be created for
other Arts Departments:
• English
• Philosophy
• Science etc
Benefit all departments who want to attract more students and convey the high
calibre of work by past students
Showcase Sydney Uni as a leader in new media and digital communication
So what’s the grand plan?
Aim...
To create a remixed banner for the Digital Cultures page which conveys
how exciting this course is and to showcase student works
So what’s the grand plan?
• VISUAL testimony of the course
• Clear and interactive links to communicate information
• Build on current USYD technology and banners for ease of
implementation

Transformation
Transformation
Business Model
• Already have the framework and flash elements in current USYD website –
building on this strength
• Simple facilitation process with other departments
• Requirements of other departments: initial consultation, reasons for undertaking
project, agreement on key messages, image/film availability and approval to use
students work
Just to re-cap!
• We are using current technology and available capabilities
to create a remixed work.
• Digital Communications and Cultures program is all about this new medium.
We will be using digital mediums to a greater effect in order to communicate the
course outline and benefits of this program.
• The MEDIUM is the MESSAGE!
• End result: more interactivity + more attraction = more enrolments!
• Extra bonus: ease of adoption for other departments.
