Overview

Purpose: Provide a self-guided social media training manual to assist in employee education in the area of social media, focusing on the basics and benefits of social learning.

The key point of our social learning program is to officially recognize and incorporate social media tools into our current learning processes.

Social Learning Isn’t New

Most of us have experienced a form of social learning while participating in many of our formal learning activities

-Conferences -Face-to-Face interactions

- Group Projects- Meetings

Social media tools allow us to expand social learning without time and geographic constraints.

We can now learn non-stop!

Our social media policy is a written policy addressing employee use of social networking websites. The policy regulates the content that employees are allowed to post on such sites, particularly with regard to comments about the employer’s workplace and other employees

The Benefits are extensive- Increased company visibility- Business relationship improvement- 24/7 learning opportunity

But, there are Limitations:- User generation gap issues- Time constraints- Privacy and security concerns- Availability of resources

Selected Tools

is an image hosting and video hosting website, and web services suite. The focus is sharing your videos and images to your family and friends worldwide. (Couturier, 2015)

is the world’s largest network of local groups, Meetup allows educators to arrange face-to-face meetings and facilitate training both formal and informal (Meetup, 2015).

is another form of video-sharing app similar to Flickr. The difference b between Flickr and Vine is that with Vine you can film short clips at separate times and link them together for a total of 6 seconds (Moreau, 2015).

is a social media site that allows users to create, view, and share videos. It provides a forum for people to share ideas, lessons, tutorial, and other informational videos (YouTube, 2015).
