21st Century Skills
Mission
21st-century life and career skills enable students to make informed decisions that prepare them to
engage as active citizens in a dynamic global society and to successfully meet the challenges and
opportunities of the 21st-century global workplace.
Vision
The systematic integration of 21st-century life and career skills across the K-12 curriculum and in career
and technical education programs fosters a population that:
Can apply information-literacy skills to access, manage, and communicate information using a range of emerging technological
tools
Think critically and creatively to solve problems
Synthesize and create new knowledge
Make informed decisions that affect individuals, the world community and the
environment.

The warning signs had been growing for some time. Numerous organizations were telling the same story:
For instance, American students are falling behind in math and science and other indicators of success. Fewer
and fewer students are pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and American
students are performing at levels far below students in competitor nations on international standardized tests in
these subjects.

The term "Web 2.0" (2004–present) is commonly associated with web applications that facilitate interactive information sharing, interoperability,
user-centered design and collaboration on the World Wide Web.
Examples of Web 2.0 include web-based communities, hosted services, web applications, social-networking sites, video-sharing sites, wikis, blogs, etc
