The Words You KnowAim: To show the students how much they may already know
Ask students to listen and circle the words they hear.

Play the tape again and ask students to listen and repeat the words. As you play eachword ask the students to repeat chorally and then choose individuals at random torepeat the word.
Now ask students to work in groups and think of other words they know. Tellthem to write them in their books. Ask groups to tell you what words their grouphas come up with. Ask a member of each group to write their words on the board.Ask the students to copy all the new words into their books.
Pronunciation of the /´/ sound. Tell students that many English words have thesame sound. One of the most common is the schwa. Ask students to listen andpractice saying the words containing the /´/ sound.

The AlphabetAim: To present and practice the letters of the alphabet
Ask students to listen to the alphabet.

Ouagadougou is the capital of Burkina Faso, a country in the West Africa.
Now practice spelling words with the class. Ask students to form two teams and haveeach team ask a member of the other team to spell a word.
Martha, spell “hotel.”
If the student spells the word correctly the team gets a point. If he or she makes amistake, the questioner’s team gets a point. Ask each team to spell five or six words.
