Tea Tree Gully Newsletter Bulkana Oval www.ttgathletics.com.au Happy Australia Day everyone, Congratulations to all those athletes who competed last weekend in the Multi Event Championships at SA Athletics Stadium. It was an amazing weekend for TTGLAC with athletes bringing home 2 Gold and 2 Silver medals and 9 top 10 finishes. On top of all this there were so many amazing personal bests smashed, which is a really encouraging sign heading into the pointy end of the season. We are back at Bulkana Oval this Sunday and the oval is looking great. TTG Council were kind enough to give it a really good ‘short back and sides’ and the lines are fresh! I must admit the oval looked pretty shmiko on Friday night at twighlight whilst hosting Golden Grove. Well done to all those who came out and participated and to all our helpers. The next important meet we need to focus on is Northern Region Open Day. This year Playford LAC are hosting it at their home ground, Duncan Anderson Reserve, Trimmer Road, Elizabeth Vale. This is an open program of events which means athletes can do combination of track and field events (see rules attached). Its a great opportunity to try for some more qualifiers or PB’s. We have been allocated the circular track to man all day, so I will be asking for helpers as the day goes on. I’m super confident that again TTGLAC will do a wonderful job. Our relay teams are looking really great at training and I congratulate all the kids and parents for their commitment to this event. However tonight is a classic example of why we need to develop more intoductory level coaches and the like…. With our regular coaches away, committee and parents allocated to relays, I was left to try and coordinate my own relay team plus the general training group. Unfortunalty it wasn’t one of our best sessions and I appolgise for this. Please if your enjoying Little Aths or your child is enjoying it, seriously consider taking part in one of the upcoming “Intro to Coaching courses”. They are very easy and a great way to learn some basic games and drills to assist athlete improvement,…..and me on nights like tonight!! ;o) http://salaa.org.au/ITCC With the end of season in sight, so is our presentation night and 40th Birthday celebration planning. Our committee are still digesting some ideas but if you have any good ones please let us know. Alternativley, if you would like to join in on an upcoming committee meeting to see how we work, feel free! Our next meeting will be Wednesday 15th Feb at 7:30pm in the clubs office. Its a very informal meeting with a few bevvies and nibbles and a few laughs. Congratulations Petra and the rest of the team at Tea Tree Gully Athletics Centre – you have achieved STARCLUB Recognition.

You are the seventy- sixth SA club to reach the highest level of achievement in the Office for Recreation and Sport’s STARCLUB program.

Reading through your report from the ORS STARCLUB consultant Karen Pilgrim gave me great insight into the commitment you and your committee have shown in valuing and addressing the STARCLUB criteria.

You are to be especially commended for working through the complexities of joining both senior and junior clubs into a united body. I trust this will provide the long term viability for the club and importantly provide lifelong participation opportunities for your athletes under your banner of Fun Family Fitness! Your proactivity and determination was also noted by both the SA athletics bodies who endorsed your application.

I look forward to monitoring your continued success and upholding the STARCLUB ideals that clearly make your club a great place to be.

Your STARCLUB congratulatory letter and certificate will be forwarded as soon as possible and your club name will now appear on the ORS website.

When you do have your banner and have any photos taken please pass on to me so we can proudly promote the fact you have worked hard to achieve STARCLUB Recognition!

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

Well done and good luck for the rest of the season!

Kind regards

Damian Leonard
