The President, Andaman
Chamber of Commerce &
Industry, Shri Girish Arora
and all Members have
welcomed the decision of
the A&N Administration to
provide affordable air-
connectivity in the Inter-
Island Sector by providing
additional incentives to the
airline operators under
Regional Connectivity
Scheme - UDAN, to
encourage the Airline
operators to introduce
flights on the Inter-Island
Sector. This will provide air
connectivity between
various Islands and people
of these far flung Islands
can reach these places at
an affordable fare within
the barest minimum time.
The UDAN
Scheme is a key
component of the Prime
Minister's National Civil
Aviation Policy (NCAP)
which was released by the
Ministry of Civil Aviation
on June 15, 2016. UDAN
(Ude Desh ka Aam
Naagrik) is a regional
airport development and
'Regional Connectivity
Scheme' (RCS) of
Government of India, with
the objective of 'Let the
common citizen of the
country fly', aimed at
making air travel affordable
and widespread, to boost
inclusive national
economic development,
job growth and air
transport infrastructure
development of all regions
and States/UTs of India.
The scheme entails making
the routes financially
viable, without insisting on
the financial viability of the
regional airports, by
lowering the cost of flight
operations and through
Value Gap Funding (VGF).
In a press release received
here today, the ACCI
President, Shri Girish Arora
said, under the Regional
Connectivity Scheme of
the Government of India, an
ATR/Fixed Wing operator
was only eligible to operate
between airports of a
minimum distance of 150
Kms. and helicopters can
avail this scheme for only
sector having a minimum
flying time of 30 minutes.
The Chamber had taken up
this matter to relax the
provisions/yardsticks of
the Scheme considering
the geographical location
of these Islands, by 50
Kms. distance between
Airports for ATR/Fixed
Wing Aircraft and 10
minutes flying time for
helicopter/seaplane.
The ACCI has expressed
happiness that the Scheme
will be implemented in
these Islands; and
Campbell Bay/Diglipur/Car
Nicobar/Hut Bay can be
connected through Fixed
Wing Aircrafts and
Seaplane service can be
restored between
Havelock and Neil Island in
addition to the existing
Helicopter services. This
will help both Tourism and
better connectivity to the
local residents. The ACCI
has also expressed
happiness that the
proposed airfare will be
less than the existing fare
of helicopter services, and
that the VAT component on

Transgender Boxer Patricio Manuel
Makes History With Pro WinNew York, Dec 11
Transgender boxer Patricio
Manuel made history on
Saturday with a unanimous
decision victory over Mexican
super-featherweight Hugo
Aguilar in Indio, California.
Manuel, 33, became the first
transgender male to fight
professionally in the United
States. "I wouldn't trade any of
it. It was worth everything I went
through to get to this point,"
Manuel said, according to the
Los Angeles Times. "I'm a
professional boxer now."
Manuel fought in the 2012 US
Olympic trials as a female, but a
shoulder injury spelled the end
of a bid to make the team for the
London Games after just one
bout. Months later he began the
transition to male, and after
surgery and hormone
treatments waded through the
bureaucracy of getting licensed
to fight. California boxing
authorities were wary of
granting a license, but once the
International Olympic Committee
ruled prior to the 2016 Rio
Games that female to male
transgender athletes could
compete "without restriction" the
way was cleared for him.
India beat Australia by 31 runs in
historic win at Adelaide
Resuming from 186/6 at lunch,
Australia made a dreadful start
to lose well-set skipper Tim
Paine for 41 on just the seventh
ball after the break. After a
conf ident knock, Paine
perished to a Jasprit Bumrah
bouncer. The short delivery
had Paine going for the pull,
but he was hurried into the shot
due to the pace, only to manage
a top-edge. Pant ran across to
his left and held on to the skier
for Australia’s seventh.
Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins
frustrated India with a 41-run
stand for the eighth wicket. As
Cummins held fort at one end,
Starc played some confident
strokes – going after balls that
came outside the off stump. And
it was one such delivery that
proved to be his undoing. In
the 101st over, with the
required total dropping under
100 runs, the Aussie seamer
went after Mohammed Shami
only to get a touch on it, that
carried to Pant. The second
Test begins on December 14
at the new stadium in Perth. It
will be followed by the third Test
on Boxing Day in Melbourne
and the series will end with the
fourth Test in Sydney starting
January 3.
Adelaide, Dec 10
Chasing their first-ever Test
series win in Australia, India
made an impressive start
Monday by winning the first of
four matches by 31 runs at the
Adelaide Oval. On the fifth day,
Australia stretched India all the
way, but couldn’t get to the 323-
run target, which would have
been the first successful chase
at the venue since 1902. In the
end, Australia were bundled out
for 291 in an extended post-
lunch session to go 0-1 down
in the series. This is the first time
India have won an opening Test
in Australia and is just the sixth
Test they’ve ever won Down
Under.
Rishabh Pant finished the Test
with 11 catches the most ever
taken by an Indian
wicketkeeper in a Test. He went
past MS Dhoni (9), and
Wriddhiman Saha, who had
taken 10 catches earlier this
year against South Africa.

the Administration in the Island -Mainland sector.
The ACCI President further stated that this is the only place in India where the
Administration has taken a progressive/encouraging step considering the remoteness of
these Islands and granted incentive on account of reimbursement of the VAT component
to the Airline Operators. This will definitely increase the frequency of flights and encourage
the Airline Operators to introduce additional flights on the Island-Mainland Sector which
will facilitate more competitive low airfare on the sector. This will also certainly increase
the inflow of tourists to these Islands rapidly.
The Andaman Chamber of Commerce & Industry has expressed gratitude to the Lt.
Governor, the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary (Civil Aviation) and all Officers of the
Civil Aviation Department/Administration in taking such progressive steps by studying
the actual difficulties faced by the people of these Islands in-depth and resolving it in a
time bound manner, the release added.
